What don’t you like about it?

>too many options make it look clanky. like a tall skinn person that can't walk properly
>krashes
>nothing special about it really, just a desktop
that's about it
>>
>>108802808
The leftists who work on it.
>>
Having 2 or 3 settings hubs that give me anxiety because it's too overwhelming to explore them all to fully understand how to customize it.

Where as you can just install Deepin and it looks way better than KDE right after you install it.

commie OS
deal with it or go back to windows r*ghtoid

I like KDE, but some of its funcionality and default options are completely retarded
>some settings are in completely weird places, e.g. sddm behaviour options being inside 35 submenus in global themes for some stupid reason
>actually there are many settings unnecessarily hidden behind submenus
>changing the wallpaper in the "wallpaper" menu only applies to the desktop, if you want to also change it for the lock screen you have to go to a completely separate menu somewhere else.
>every kde program you install also requires you to install another 54 kde related dependencies
>bunch of annoying and unnecessary features enabled by default like file indexing, kwallet, confirmation menus for moving/copying files, "show in groups" in Dolphin, etc, panel floating, etc.
>actual useful features are once again hidden behind submenus/weird places or disabled by default (autologin, virtual desktops, etc.)
>some of the default keybinds are retarded (Super+Print to take a screenshot instead of just Print).
>>
>>108802808
- krashes
- Qt is literally abusing the license terms, they wait until the limit (1 year) until they open source shit
- Can't say no to retarted feature requests that make the experience worse for everyone
- Nate is a terrible leader who created a company (TechPaladin) in the US and hired the most active contributors. There's a conflict of interest and his customers can shape the future of KDE
- Thememaxing has left some obvious security holes (global themes can run commands as sudo, themes can run code, 3 different theme engines)
And before gnomefags come out, I'm saying these as a huge KDE user and supporter.

if plasma had a tiling mode (like cosmic) or scrolling (hyprland, niri) natively it would be ideal

They’re surely no more ‘left’ than GNOME?
>>
>>108802808
It has that open source desktop ugliness that I hate.
Everyone has their own way of doing something that breaks the theming conventions.
Programmers aren't artists and artists don't want to contribute art for free without attribution
>>
>wobbly windows and translucent windows effect turns itself on after every restart and its so annoying
>clicking the copy button after taking a screenshot opens the image in a new window (why???)
>clock too big, cant size clock text the same as date text (had to download a separate widget just for this)
plus the general theme inconsistency
>>
>>108802849
Hell yeah brother. I only like DE's who are programmed by people who support Israel, like GNOME.

I like it but it's ugly, it tries to pander to all sorts of usecases and it ends up being subpar for all of them as a result
there is no "vision" or "goal", it feels cobbled together (it is, but it should not feel like it)
>>
>>108803044
It's why I like GNOME as much as I do, the theme is consistently bad, which is better than inconsistently bad. I've gone long stretches of using WindowMaker/GNUstep because it's the only other windowing environment that seems to care about not letting the application step over the application toolkit
>>
>>108803063
>there is no "vision" or "goal", it feels cobbled together
You're describing the entire linux experience for the last 15 years
>>
>>108802808
It sometimes feels "old", but it's a near perfect DE for classic computing. But I feel like we will move away from this style of navigating a PC soon.

I feel like TWM's and GNOME are closer to "le future" everything is moving to mobile interfaces with large buttons, much whitespace and task switching instead of multi windowing.
>>
>>108802943
>global themes can run commands as sudo
Plasma themes and GNOME extensions need to be removed. Linux security is a joke.
>>

>>
>>108802808
Thin lines, I hate thin lines. If the lines have low contrast for example in an input box or a checkbox it's ok, but when are used to separa panels it's ugly as fuck.

single click to open folders and files by default

who the fuck even comes up with this shit?

If KDE didn't exist I'd use Xfce. Gnome is dumbed down and reminds me of iOS with its dictatorship-tier restrictions.

this always pissed me off and only now did I think to actually check the options, there's an option to quit right after taking the screenshot
I guess the wide spectrum of defaults of varying quality makes me need to go into the options of random-ass programs to get sane behavior. there's something to be said about having the immense amount of options but some of the defaults are really questionable

I really loved old KDE. I don't like modern KDE. I could say the same about gnome. Everything only gets worse

Strange how that keeps happening. Although I do think GNOME has made some big strides with their latest release. Pretty much all of the things that really annoyed me have been fixed. Still prefer Windows, but it's at least a viable option.
>>
>>108802808
It's the only one that handles HDR and scaling properly. Shame not even GNOME could get it right. Anyone who uses anything other than KDE or even GNOME is just a meme user that doesn't do any actual gaming or work on their computer / have a good monitor

Not him, but this was easy. I absolutely hate Baloo so I could pull this up fast. The creator, and another top contributor.

Again, why go to India? You're not there to sell a product, the only thing KDE wants are contributions and this is going to be code or cash donations. The Indians sure as hell aren't donating cash.

>2025 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat
>conf.kde.in aims to attract new KDE Community members, as well as seasoned developers. The contents of the conference provide updates on what is going on in the KDE Community and teaches newcomers how to start making meaningful contributions.

They're spending donors money to fly out to Indian to recruit the jeets from the source. Do you really think that's going to result in a quality product? What's the matter, Germans don't code anymore?

It has lots of bloat by default.
They can do with some UI improvements.
Most users are bamboozled by menus and submenus. They are not bad, but they can be presented without overwhelming them.

>Default theme (breeze) is not that good in my opinion, and custom tgemes are a bit incosistent. For example, setting custom colors may not set them in the way you imagine, and the willow spectrum plasma style that I had installed (looked kino) changed to lightmode after a kde update, making it kinda unusable. Gnome with libadwaita for all their faulta made it look nice and consistent across their ecosystem
>It can be overwhelming knowing all the settings and where to look but not really an issue since the built in search works well.
>Can be buggy on rolling but usually overblown (they got better at not introducing as much and patching existing ones over the years)

the most basic thing about theme consistency in my opinion in desktop environment would be the shared material between window and panel
only windows xp and aero ever achieved this
I can't get my head around people who design modern desktops without literally the most basic element of conaistent design
