Looking for a new distro to fix my life. I have two paths:The Autism Path: Install Arch. Force myself to actually learn how a kernel works so I don't end up with a $2k paperweight. The "I have a job"
Path: Kubuntu or Lubuntu. Is KDE actually

optimized now or is it still a buggy mess?I need to dual boot Win10 for CAD and Office (don't @ me, LibreOffice formatting is cancer), but I want to run basic .exes on Linux without the OS dying. What do I pick, /g/?Give me something that forces me to git gud or has massive software compatibility so I don't have to spend 6 hours in a terminal just to install a calculator.

> inb4 "just use WSL"
Pic unrelated.

here's your fell for reddit memes award
now, to run Arch/most other distros that aren't pre-configured to the teeth you only have to understand the basic fact that an OS isn't a magical monolith but rather a collection of programs that work in tandem
to achieve your idea of a functional OS you might need to install some of the missing pieces
if you feel up to the task to pacman -S some packages, edit a couple lines of config here and there and google shit sometimes to deal with the occasional breakage that comes with rolling release, you will be good
Arch won't force you to learn anything deeper than that
KDE is not a buggy mess anymore but it's not significantly lighter than GNOME
if I were to recommend something that forces you to learn shit while still maintaining a functional computer, NixOS is the most autistic I'd go (with the disclaimer that the Nix package manager itself has quite the learning curve. it's also wildly different in some regards than traditional Linux and not everything will carry over)

We’ve already lost OP. It’s okay. Windows is getting better because of him.

so no advantage in learning arch? i want something that breaks my spirit daily in destroying my psyche and rebuild it, also arch has softwares compatible, what is good in nixOS? is there a distro worth it? i'm going to turn back a windows fag again

Just install arch, bro. You don't need to learn the kernel at all.

There's an advantage in learning arch, it's just that initial learning curve of how to install it is no longer there due to archinstall, but even that gives you a couple of ways to shoot yourself in the foot. Always download reflector, rsync, curl, wget, git, base-devel
