why don't you have one?

Because buying pointless bullshit I don't need isn't even making me momentarily content anymore

I want a game controller that isn’t tied to steam so I can play pirated and gog games.
I’m open for suggestions on gamepads.
And built to last too as joystick drift has scared me from all the switch reports.

Dualsense works both as a controller and mouse without any middleware, that alone makes it better than this slop.
>>
>>108805484
it doesn't. you need some sort of service running in the background for the gyro to work and you need steam for the trackpad or some other middlewear.
>>
I don't really see a reason to spend 100€ on a controller. Plus, I either get my games from GOG or pirate them which makes Steam hardware particularly unattractive.

I had my og PS3 controllers from 2007 and I was still using them until last year, when my last unit broke down. The internals in all of them started falling apart and rattling around. The USB ports on them became flaky too, plastic cracking, and triggers and sticks started becoming very worn and loose.
Bought a gulikit kk3 pro and been very happy with it. Has hall effect joys and triggers like the og DS3's did, so I hope this thing lasts at least 18 years too.
>>
>>108805717
PS2 had pressure sensitive buttons as well. Sony figured out how to make rubber dome pressure sensitive buttons. Very few games used it. Pretty sure NFS hot pursuit 2 did.
The PS3 controller all the buttons did and the L2 and R2 triggers were worked really well. The only problem with them is they were convex instead of concave like the xbox one so your fingers will slip off the triggers.
>>
>>108805408
The steam controller 1 uses the pad of your thumb, not the tip or side.
I don't even know what you're arguing here.
a) There is no reason for a right analog when you have a trackpad. Analog is objectively inferior in every single way.
b) The steam controller 2 has objectively worse positioning on the trackpad
SC2 was built to appease retards, it's that simple.

I used the DualSense on Windows and had problems with GOG and Repacks. I had to get DS4Windows... for Games to detect my Controller. (Simulated as DS4 or Xbox). I know, most people would simply open Steam, but that lead to double inputs, the other alternative was: adding games as non-steam game. "just use xbone" noo... I'm a gyro fag, I love gyro for emulation and single player games with aim.

Idk.. but I hated it. I don't want to depend on shit. Now I'm on Gnu/Linux and my DualSense works fine without any extra tools, I can see the battery life and play any game.

NTA, the only real difference between the PS1, PS2 and PS3 controllers from a comfort perspective was the body of the controller getting slightly thicker to accommodate the extra electronics and the different L2 and R2. Otherwise it was the same controller. Six axis was always a meme and sucked in every game it was implemented in.
I've never used a PS4 or PS5 controller though. I stopped buying consoles by that point.

Bit too pricy for a controller that i'll probably barely ever use. Hell, I'm pretty sure the last time I used by xbone controller from pic rel was back when I beat Elden ring on release. Not a big fan of same-height stick controllers either. I really dislike whenever I have to use the right stick on the Steam Deck.
I enjoy the trackpads on the deck a lot, but it's because they offer me a passable mouse replacement while in bed. I would never use them over an actual mouse.
Man I grabbed my 360 controller for the first time in years for this photo and it is crazy how bad everything feels but the face and bumper buttons which are by far the best out of any controller I've used.

Get a Bluetooth adapter that works properly with the controller. Broadcom and Realtek work well with DS4. Sony's adapter is just a bcm20702, iirc. I use old laptops as tv consoles, you'd think the steam controller is practically made for me.
The original was a terrible game controller and an ok mouse/keyboard replacement. It sat in a drawer for years until I started using it for my bed tv a few months ago. When I wanted a good game controller I got a cyclone 2 and after seeing the design of the new steam controller with that price I don't think it's worth upgrading my old one.
Puck doesn't make sense for charging with the tv and laptop across the room. Sticks are nice but my cyclone already has TMR sticks for way cheaper. Triggers and buttons suck. It would've been nicer having a swappable battery like the old one with easier battery access than needing me to dock it while playing with low battery.
It's really just an extra stick, dpad and back buttons with capacitive sensors all over compared to the og steam controller. A cyclone 2 for gaming paired with a wireless keyboard/mouse is just better in every way.

>>108812916
it's a firmware and tmr thing. tmr sticks are "noisy" by design and need firmware/software tricks to quiet them down. your kde settings see the raw data of the sticks. the 8bitdo controller doesn't expose this noise thanks to its firmware. the steam controller filtered it out via steam for steam input to work.
