its over.

I need to upgrade but there's no way I'm spending this much on RAM right now. Plus GPUs are way overpriced still.
>>
Yeah a market based on consumers buying a new $1000 every 9 months to play console ports was absolutely sustainable
>>

It became unsustainable when storage and RAM tripled in price, making people reconsider upgrading or buying PCs.
You can sell motherboards for $100 if you want. If the RAM and SSD are going to cost $1000 people still won't be buying.

The article says the DIY PC market is slumping because AI data centers are consuming huge amounts of chips and memory, making consumer PC parts more expensive and harder to get.

Motherboard makers like ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte expect major sales declines as gamers and enthusiasts delay upgrades due to high GPU, CPU, and DDR5 prices.

The overall point: AI demand is crowding out the traditional PC enthusiast market.
>>
its time for AMD and Intel to add ram onto the CPU
>>

And SSDs, and HDDs, and external storage..

ok, so maybe now we don't need AMD to release 4 different chipset versions with different features enabled. just sell us all the fucking features and stop tiering everything without forcing us to buy $1000 motherboards.
>>
I'm so glad I stopped gaming completely about a year ago (and it wasn't that fun gaming the last few years). I also don't care about AI stuff. I sold my gaming PC and downgraded to a simple system with iGPU. I don't need anything powerful for watching videos, emails, reading, browsing and listening to music. I use Linux with a WM and my RAM and CPU usage stays very low. If nothing breaks, this system will last for a long time so I don't care about HW prices.

The whole parts market has gone bananas. $200 for a 2TB drive while an 8TB drive is like $500-600 is fucking insane.

This is the future /bizg/entoomen chose by chasing the Snake Oil that was Buttcoin and No Fucking Thanks over telling those snakeoil salesmen to fuck off, we have Fiat Currency already.

You could've kept your gaming PC for the same purpose. There really is no reason to upgrade.

I kept a 1060 GTX for like a DECADE until I finally bit the bullet because Death Stranding 2 needed it. Shit I mostly play (Diablo 2, Slay the Spire 1-2, Balatro, older PS4 and earlier AAA shit) doesn't really need the GPU I got. But I sort of justify it to myself since I was moving from Win10 to Linux and going from Nvidia to AMD made that migration to Linux eaiser than dealing with Nvidia's bullshit on Linux.

Good. Gamers did this to their own market themselves by buying nothing but Nvidia for the past two decades, growing it into the AI monster it is today. And there hasn't been a single worthwhile graphically intensive game released on PC post-2020 anyway.
