>Googlebook appears to be Google’s next attempt to bring Android into the laptop market. A leaked slide shared online shows a new laptop platform “designed for Gemini Intelligence,” with features built around Android apps, Chrome and Google’s AI assistant.
> Googlebook also appears to include deeper Android phone integration. The slide shows “Cast My Apps,” a feature that lets users access Android phone apps on the laptop. The example screen includes mobile apps such as Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Airbnb, Canva, CapCut, Duolingo, Google Keep, Lyft, Maps
> The hardware side is also mentioned. The slide lists Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo as partners, with “devices coming this fall.” It also shows a thin laptop design with a Google-colored light strip called “Glowbar.” The same branding appears on the main Googlebook device image.

They couldn’t have used pixelbook instead?

The jokes writes themselves.
Problem is the UI, it's not desktop UI.
If fecaloids at google want to take this seriously they need to make desktop one.
>>
>>108807324
cool
looking forward to buying one in 5-10 years and installing linux on it
>>
>>108807324
So.... It's a chromebook, renamed, and you have Gemini by default now.

Why does it have an ortho keyboard?

better than windows though

It's the final red pill for laptops. Normies fed up of Windows 11 will buy it.
>>
>>108807324
These things with a Snapdragon + GameNative! It's insane, you can basically play Triple A Games on Android. Because of Valve/FEX-Emu, it's on Android with Proton now.

ARM won! Thanks Valve / Steam Frame.
>>
>>108809050
lol no
Windia and Saardroid are mismanaged jeetware with tons of bloat, spyware, ads and AI scams on top, but windows has the advantage of not being completely locked down and letting you install software from third party sources without having to do humiliation rituals. Jewgle is turning android into a worse iOS that doesn't even have the fancy integration of Apple.
>>
>>108807361
>they need to make desktop one.
Genuinely kill yourself. no they don't need to make a desktop.
>>
>>108807324
It had a chance if they really integrated AI, but this is just trash. There's no reason to buy this. This is worse than a chromebook.

yes they do

Yeah it's pretty cool but it's shame you'll have to wait 24 hours you have ability to any apk's outside of the play store (I'm not saying side loading that's a iOS term) yeah once I saw the "Googlebook" to feels like complain that the Apple silicon Mac's are just giant iPads but it to me the that's what "Googlebook" is a giant android tablet.
>>
>>108810146
People always forget that process is only for "unverified" APKs. A lot of the most popular emulators and tools will likely do the verification process.
>>
>>108807509
This, into the trash it goes
>>
If people really want to run Android on their PC they use one of the many emulators out there. Even Google has two of their own.
>>
>>108807324
So it's a slopbook.
>>
>>108810660
I doubt adaway will bother with verification.

>>108810732
At least you're not limited to 3 apps like ios
>>
I just watched some of the demo video. It makes no sense. All the features they're demonstrating are shopping and travel. Who do they think are the actual users for this thing? They'll end up in classrooms. Children aren't planning trips to France. Demonstrate some kind of learning activity. Fucking idiots.
>>
Oh nice googlebook
For short, you can call it gook

>Problem is the UI, it's not desktop UI.
it is. you seem to not be aware of what has been happening lately in the android ecosystem.

You're thinking in the past. The pendulum is swinging hard against laptops in the classroom.

I think this at least has a chance for the reason >>108809053
proposed. Microsoft broke a lot of camels' backs with Win11. AI ground up is the way to go; nobody wants AI bolted onto something they were happy with pre-AI (e.g. Windows, Firefox). So people might at least give this a chance. And fwiw I found Gemini's integration with maps quite good while doing some impromptu tourist research in the middle of a vacation, recently, so maybe this will actually be good. I think the big question is did they take the plunge to fully replace the old "ok google" assistant with a tool-calling LLM.

I think they'll be fighting against the chromebook reputation. Sure, it's new and different somehow, but they'll still be aimed at the low-end mostly. There will be a couple of wildly overpriced i3 premium models, but most of it will be mediatek trash. It's NOT build AI native. It's the same bullshit which is at best a screen capture. All the AI runs on Google's servers, so they lose money every time you use the AI features. Agentic and tool calling is so much more expensive. They'll never give that for free.
>>
>>108807324
I can maybe understand going jeetdroid if you're poor or really love hardware while being completely ambivalent towards how shit the software is (ie all chinkphones), but android-on-laptop is just lol
>>

I used to have a nexus one with the trackball that glowed different colours for mapped notifications so the glowbar reminds me of that

They also block you from doing certain things if they detect you’ve ever used an emulator with that account.
