What, exactly, speaks against a total crackdown on the Western internet modeled after the Chinese system? Nothing. For the "free" internet is nothing more than a place of mindless distraction, obscenity, and lies. Why should we protect that? The Chinese internet is superior precisely because it is a sterile and dead place. And because you know what it is, you know exactly what you’re getting. But what does the oh-so-"free" internet offer us? Alternative, "free" garbage—and corporate garbage. In the end, it’s all just garbage. What would be so terrible about pulling the plug on 4chan? Nothing. The only people who mourn the loss of the "free" internet are those who believe that Goatse and Pepes constitute high culture. "Free speech" is a liberal mind virus. It is time to eradicate this virus.

This isn't remotely true. If you have to lie to support your argument, it proves even you don't believe your argument.

lovely ideas
but how about, instead, we round up all kikes, and then just put them down?

i don't think the people in this thread are capable of reading subtext. i don't think i'm being generous in clocking OP as drawing parallels to contemporary US policy pushes like age verification as being cut from the same cloth as chinese implementations. you can already see this happening in the UK (and europe too? i dunno). shit is actively going that way and if people don't nut up and resist it, those freedoms are just going to ratchet away.

You don't need to protect it, just leave it alone

>Why should we protect that?
because it's fun

I don't think there's any real way to reverse the corporate centralisation of the Web. The only real way to "nut up and resist", is to use alternatives.
