>Own phone with Snapdragon 8 plus>Play wreckfest, looks and runs great>1 minute later FPS cut in half phone gets hot>like a third of the performance under sustained load like playing a game?what is the point then?
buy/diy a cooling enclosure for it.
>>108808614>What is the point of high end SOCs in phones?Necessary to run the fat ass OS and incredibly badly optimized games.
>>108808984Mobile game devs who are interested in performance are just as interested in power, due to Opie's thermal throttling.I would assume the phone manufacturers could do more for cooling (not my area of expertise), plus I know there are still ways to optimize for power here and there. But there's an extent to which we're hitting the limits of the form factor, and with Dennard scaling long dead, further miniaturization (all else equal) makes thermals even worse due to increasing power density.
>>108808614idk I haven't thought about my phone's processor in over a decade
>snapdragon 8 plus>high endlol lmao that shit is 4 years old now
>>108808614>high end SOCs> Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (announced May 2022)
To keep people consooming year after year on something that should never have been a high end device but rather a peripheral to laptops
ah yes gaming desktop gayming station users measure 650W scale peak gpu power use phone manages to dissipate 0.5W
