So i want to learn cam simulation for CNC machines, i either use windows with fusion or some shit or i fuck myself, how bad would be for my curriculum to add linuxCNC? IS it as worthless as Freecad? Why the system gotta keep a brother down...
Just use Windows.
>>108809789Why can't they make software without windows? It's not hard. Stupid CNC chumps. I hate this industry.
>>108810050Flatpaks have made it easier, but it's still development effort to test and support anther platform. Unless a large customer wants linux, it won't happen. In general, it's not worth it for commercial vendors to 2% of desktop users, many of whom are freetards/3rd world etc.
>>108810095*another*cater to 2%Sorry had a stroke.
>>108808944>is linux useless as with CAD softwaresmate if you think CAD on linux is bad CAM on linux is 100x worse
>>108808944The CNC machine I use at work runs Linux... but I have to use gay ass Windows to run SolidWorks. This world a shit.
>>108808944industry is mostly tied to spensive programs. solly
siemens nx used to be available for linux, but it was discontinued. you might be able to find the last version and get it to work. it's not like cad software actually becomes obsolete.
>>108811250>SolidWorksWhy not use FreeCAD? FreeCAD 1.1 has a highly improved set of G/M-code generating tools. Also, you can easily translate .sldprt and .fcstd files into generic .step files so you can share your 3D models with either FreeCAD or SolidWorks users. If that doesn't work, install Windows 10 (not AIDSdows 11) on a separate partition on your HDD/SSD from Linux so you can use SolidWorks or Mastercam there. Then again, Siemens products are surprisingly compatible with Wine emulation layers, so if your company/college happens to have licenses for Siemens products, you might be able to use Siemens NX or some other Siemens programs on Linux.

>>108812420>Why not use inferior softwareGee I wonder. FreeCAD is good for people who never used cad but for someone with production ready designs it's utter garbage. OnShape is better for production ready designs.
>>108812442>for someone with production ready designs it's utter garbagePlease elaborate further on this matter. I've used Siemens NX, Autodesk Inventor, and FreeCAD, and I have never had any problems making something on FreeCAD that I wouldn't have been able to make just as easily on the other 2 programs I mentioned.
>>108812512that probably means you are a noob making simple parts
>>108808944>freecadyou can use kicad or brl-cad, too
>>108808944cad and online gayming is for windowsaudio is for macos
>>108812512>Can't take advantage of the capabilities of a real CAD package>Does work so simple they can pull it off in FreeCADHave you tried TinkerCAD?
>>108808944go to >>>/diy/emt/important! ignore sieg
>>108812420>>Why not use FreeCAD?BECAUSE SOLIDWORKS EXISTS
