I didn't think the 3D Printing business would go down the insane draconian control levels of the regular printing industry yet here we are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb48MdtNaDQ
>>108810386P 1 S?its called PISS?arent all 3d printers just a handfull of stepper motors running on arduinohe even says its a fork of fork blah blahive written 3d printer firmware before its hardly difficultall 3d printer users are feminised by the fumes anyway and nothing useful has ever been 3d printed by the waythis whole thing is extremely embarrassing.legally i guess it comes down to is distributing an api in software defined as free to use however you wish an invitation to acess their server. maybe or maybe not, but being retarded and not using some id key doesn't necessarily mean you have permisison
>>108810474This company is trying to be the apple of 3d printing except somehow even less open, quite the lofty goal they've set for themselves there.
Okay, you can say bambulab bad but what is the equivalent? What 3d printer just werks? What 3d printer competes with an H2D? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I'm thinking about moving up to something with a bigger print bed and tinkering with my printer(outside of filament tuning) doesn't sound fun. The only issue I've had with mine has been a very clogged nozzle after using their carbon fiber pla blend.
>>108810386The issue here isn't that a dev made open source software for the printer, it's that he made the software spoof the official software's user-agent so it could use the official servers for free.If you want to host your own server, that's fine, but if you want to use the official server, you have to use the official client. Seems fair to me.
>>108810901Wait, this fag thought he had the right to bambulab servers and somehow bambulab is in the wrong?
>>108810901By this logic YouTube should be able to sue you for using ytdlp.
>>108810942Why do you think we have yt-dlp now and not youtube-dl?
>>108810942Or Firefox.
>>108810917Exactly bro. bambulab is super mad they gave the guy the key and then the guy opened the door with it. They were not supposed to do that.
>>108810917>this fag thought he had a right to walk through the front door of our business with the flashing sign that says OPENIf the server is public it's public.
>>108810901>For freeDon't be disengenuous. It is already free for any and all bambu owners, which is what his tool did, restore access to free servers that bambu blocked access to for their products, not unlock paid features (I don't think there even are any) or allow non bambus to use their servers.
>>108810917https://github.com/bambulab/bambustudio?tab=AGPL-3.0-1-ov-filehe does
>>108811232software license != online service eula
>NOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU HAVE TO LET ME USE YOUR SERVERS!!!!!!!!>AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I WAS PROMISED THIS A GORILLIAN YEARS AGO
>>108810386>3d printer HAS to connect to the internetwtf, why? is it so they can see everything people make with their printers? jfc
>>108810386https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jhRqgHxEP8Rossman just posted that he's prepared to go after them if they retaliate. Bambu is using GPL code.also bambu labs is a bunch of cock gobblers.
>>108810901Hey dumb dumb. Bambu is using GPL and they cannot impose restrictions on any code they used with a GPL license.
>>108810917Bambu labs is wrong. They are using GPL code. they cannot impose any restrictions... unless they want to rewrite their entire software stack without it.
>>108812183Guess we'll finally be seeing an AGPLv4 once the courts (reasonably) decide that the license is poorly written and largely unenforceable.
>>108812190They can impose service restrictions, though if their server/backend software is AGPL there may be some complications there.
>>108812083These printers can be put into lan mode, this is specifically referencing sending the print command to your printer while away. This command goes through bambulab servers to the printer.
>>108812220Just use a vpn to access it when you're out of the house.
>>108812256Okay, so this would be for people who don't want to do that. Clearly.
>>108812194^ this guy is retarded
>>108812183it would be funny when the courts btfo the agpl because a bunch of brainlet retards drank the kool aid and believe bambu will be suing for anti-tivoization and not breach of contract (tos/eula) + dmca anti-circumvention + harmful interference + computer fraud (unauthorized access / access after revocation)it would be funny if google backed them just to take a massive shit on the agpl which they have a persistently massive hate boner for.
>>108813308^ this guy is retarded
>>108813335kek were you the guy I called a retard? didn't mean to rile you up that hard lol. but you can stay mad
>>108810386I think bambu needs to fully ditch their fascination with the tinker tranny side of 3dp already. I get that most of their founders and employees were enthusiasts but if they really wanted to finally take the technology into the mainstream they need to ditch the neckbeard audience for good which has well proved to be just more trouble than they're worth.
>>108812213>>108812190You can have authentication in (A)GPL code. The code needs to be free as in freedom. It doesn't mean you need to have access to the service. And if they were using AGPL backend you can spin up your own service and use that one.
>>108813417jesus fuck, where are all these stupid hot takes coming from? is it because an eceleb made a video on this issue that now all these retards are coming out of the woodwork exposing their retardation for all to see?
>>108810386bambu should have never allowed firmware flashing or the creation of a hacker community. the next printer needs to come with a tpm on the soc such that firmware hackers need to buy a whole new motherboard to do their garbage mods.
>>108810386are there real life shills ITT?
>>108813533THERE ARE SHILLS IN EVERY THREADSUCK CORPO COCK ALWAYS
>>108810474>nothing useful has ever been 3d printed by the wayYou can 3D print a spiral that snugly fits into a steel pipe and then run a fluid through that.
>>108810386wait until you learn about the patents being extended around the CHT nozzle
>>108812263It's almost certainly for normies who don't know that they can even host a vpn. They think it's just what they see in youtube ads.
>>108812083unironically yes, because there are certain groups mass using Bambu printers that China wants to keep an eye on
>>108816906who are these certain groups?
>>108810968trademark infringement
>>108810386DIYing your 3d Printer is the most important way to keep them from owning your ideas. Anyone that uses a 3D printers services has entirely missed the point of getting or owning one.
>>108810942Is YouTube access paid only and is ytdlp bypassing that?
>>108817865Alternatively, I could just buy the best printer and put it in lan mode.
>>108810386How is this not a bigger story?
>>108818711this.also, why isn't the FSF involved? or, is it?
>>108818787why would anyone call on those ogres at FSF
>>108810386Not scrutinising advances in tech brought us here.
>>108818787Because every time they make a statement, some troll from the open source community comes out and lashes
>>108818711The only big story is that "tech enthusiasts" can't read and think that a company denying a third party from using their servers for free is some form of infringement. You can still put your printer into lan mode and use orca slicer, you can still rollback your firmware.
Bambu tried to become to 3d printers what DJI is to quadcopter dronesbut they got cocky and went mask-off too early, they only held the midrange "just werkz" normie market with Elegoo/Anycubic/Flashforge etc competing strongly for the poorfag entry level and Prusa somehow not dead for the commercial operators plus the hardcore Voron/Ratrig autists. They also dropped the ball on multi-toolhead by only offering it on the $2400 H2C while the Snapmaker U1 Kickstarter price was sub $800.
>>108819569>Chinese companies becoming dominant in new technologies meanwhile western corps are playing catch up and trying to play as the good guy that supports open sourcewest bros i dont feel so good
>>108818787Do you remember when Gnome, Redhat, Mozilla, Xorg and many more joining force to condemn the FSF? They are mostly irrelevant nowadays, pushes out of power by a certain coalition. I'm more surprised Ubuntu didn't participate
>>108810901>he made the software spoof the official software's user-agentNot quite, he reused open source software that bambu used and didn't change the user-agent from what bambu had set.
>>108815419why do i want to spiral my fluids?
>>108810863Maybe the Creality K2 Plus Combo
