If I have 200 Mbit service and a N150 router and connect at 80 Mbit will getting a gigabyte router get me closer to 200?

I need to look at my RJ45 since cat5 limits me to under 100 Mbit as well and cat5e does not. Also need to check my NIC since I do have an old hp laptop on the lan as well.

CAT5 does not limit you to 100Mbps unless you're using 100Mbps NICs, or it's dogshit ancient CAT5 that wasn't terminated for gigabit.

But CAT5 itself can generally run gigabit speeds up to 100+ feet. You only need CAT5e for 200-300 feet runs, and even then CAT5 will still usually do gigabit.

CAT5e can do 2.5gbps at 300 feet, or even 10gbps when doing less than 30 feet.

I doubt it's the n150. I have an N5105 can do 1000/1000 with packet inspection.

>asymmetric speeds
You have DOCSIS and your node is oversold. You won't get the advertised speeds period.

Jesus! Which urban conurbation do you inhabit and I'll avoid this place?
