What do you think about ARCH LINUX?
>>108811904I don't. Arch users are all shitters and retards. Void and nixos is all a man needs.
>>108811904Never heard of it
>>108811904It is inevitable and is the only real distribution
>>108811904Falls behind technically in every way compared to Void, but still a solid distro.
>>108811904Arch is ultimately the best distro for desktop use BECAUSE it's rolling release + software availability + good docs. That's why all you have to do to make a popular distro is fork Arch and make it easier to install and/or pre-riced.

I liked it a lot back in the day, before Gentoo stole my heart. I am now married to Gentoo and we have several children together.
>>108811904despise it. it's the distro for nobody because 1. no one needs that updated packages across the board 2. there are plenty of other distros that work better and fit more useful niches and 3. the users are all giant fags i hope die of AIDS

>>108812036>>void>Actual tinkertranny distroWho runs the entire Void Linux project?
>>108812042>the shilling is very natural, you seeAs opposed to the completely natural reddit posts where self-proclaimed users (not developers) write entire paragraphs on why they love systemd and see it as an absolute necessity. Void wasn't even made as a protest against systemd, so your argument is completely moot. NixOS wasn't either.>>108812036>Actual tinkertranny distroIf configuring your OS is a bad thing, I think you might find Windows more suitable for you.
the eternal seethe generator
>>108812050>self-proclaimed users (not developers) write entire paragraphs on why they love systemd and see it as an absolute necessityWho is typing all of those essays, schizo-san? Because I'm not seeing them anywhere.
>>108812048tell me exactly what arch does that something a stable and maintained by professionals like fedora doesn't
>>108811904I don't think about you at all. - happy Windows user
>>108812068>tell me exactly what arch does that something a stable and maintained by professionals like fedora doesn'tArch doesn't configure packages for you. There are no opinionated defaults, and it is easier to remove components without breaking anything. Fedora is also primarily a test bed for new features Red Hat wants to introduce into RHEL. This means the earliest adopters of technologies like systemd, Podman, and Pipewire were Fedora users. Upgrading to major releases is also a pain in the ass.I've used Fedora for almost 3 years, I don't actually have any issues with it, but I still see the appeal in blank-slate distros like Arch, Gentoo, Void, etc where you choose what is installed on your system.
>>108812068I said it was debatable, not that I was going to engage in debate

>>108811904i use it because it just works but it doesn't realy matter, most distros are pretty much the same, there isn't a thing you can do on one and not the other.only few exceptions are nixos/guix and other niche ones.

Arch Linux wasn't exactly designed to be beginner friendly but it somehow ended up being one of the better option to start on anyway.CachyOS does try to make it easier for beginners by settings up for you but you may are still likely to run into some problem that require significant effort to properly resolve eventually.I had trouble switching ofer to eufi-boot but eventually i got a nice setup with syslinux (i use vanilla Arch Linux that i installed manually).
>>108811904I use it on my desktop for geymen but when I want to get real work done I switch to my MacBook Pro M4 Pro™
Honestly the biggest issue i have with it is lack of proper security (no easy way to properly configure apparmor or SELinux). People are going to get rekt from malware from installing software outside the official repositories or via wine.
>>108811904Everyone tells me it's gonna break next month when I update.I've been waiting nearly 3 years for that moment so far. Still works like it always did.>>108811916>void>nixcool it with the autogynephilia

>>108818908>things that have never once happened
>>108811904I don't really get how it's so mainstream now. A regular user really has no use to be on the bleeding edge with all the issues that come from it. Fedora is a much more sensible option and still fairly up-to-date.
>>10881896010+ years on arch (but wouldnt consider myself an "archfag"), if you dont do/install stupid things during installation nothing actually breaks
>>108814895>Arch Linux wasn't exactly designed to be beginner friendly but it somehow ended up being one of the better option to start on anyway.Yeah. If you want to learn how to use Linux install Arch manually. Or Gentoo.
>>108811904good containment distro for retards, thanks for beta testing though>>108818977mostly the problem isn't the system itself breaking, but that the various upstreams are overly eager in declaring their new versions as """stable"""
>>108811904If you want rolling release, it's the best option.>vanilla packages (no downstream patching)>tooling is simple, fast and effective>packaging is easy>no excessive package splitting>very little distro-specific voodoo you need to learn: most system administration stuff applies to most other distrosWith that said, if you don't care about having the very latest versions of all the software you install, a point release distro may be better suited for you.
>>108820105Also forgot>excellent documentation, by far the best out of ALL distributions
>>108811904>archI fear that I am not high iq to use it properly so I stuck with mint and went to fedora at one point for the just works experience.Maybe a curated arch based distro that just works.I think Manjaro is arch based. But I see a lot of talk for cachyOS so I’m not sure if it is flavor of the month or genuinely good or if there is a big shilling campaign or all of them.Either way I will use xfce de unless there is a de more stable and uses less resources.
>>108811904>update requires manual interventionso tell me linshitters: how is this any different from Wangblows 11 updoots where you have to manually fix broken shit?
