How do I actually get faster?
I still occasionally look down on my keyboard, and I still mostly (about 80% of the time) still just use my index fingers, sometimes I use my middle and my ring.

How to improve? Just practice I know but settling into the conventional Left Index on F, right index on J actually makes me slower.

my left hand rests on WASD by default

Can’t you just type faster on a phone?

i swapped to column stacked and started using ten fingers, index on F/J. Still feel bit weird but this is the way to go. Don't have to look the keyboard at all now.

stop looking down and use more fingers
>makes me slower
yes you will be slower at first
just force yourself to do those 2 things and you'll get used to it eventually

bro I was typing 120wpm in middle school
some other girl there was a bit faster though

If you aren't resting your fingers on home row, you're doing it wrong. Once in that spot every key is in muscle memory.

just take the hit. I was also initially slower when I learned touch typing. And be strict about it. I naturally reached 100 WPM after a couple of months without any dedicated practice.

Switch to another keyboard layout. For me qwerty typing was also permanently fucked because of so much muscle memory. At that point it's easier to just learn a new layout for me it was +10 wpm per day after 30 mins of practice, and using it daily. I switched to colemak-dh touch-typing is the default with it. Most modifier keys are in the same place. There are websites which let you practice layouts with not every key at first, but with progressively more. Use those.

Oh and I went from 50 wpm to 110 after a couple of months. And since I'm not hard-capped by my retarded typing style, I'll improve further in the future through years of use
