>find 1080p plasma TV from 2012 at goodwill>get OLED quality blacks for a fraction of the price ($80), only downside is that it's HEAVYwtf? why does nobody talk about these?I promise you that when all the CRTs are gone these are gonna be the new trendy "retro" items
>>108819517Plasma TVs have a very short lifespan and 90% of them you find these days will be at best 50% as bright as they were originally.
>>108819517When all CRTs are gone we will have 4k oled panels that do 500-1000hz and we will be able to perfectly replicate the lack of motion blur and scanlines, trust the plan
>get OLED quality blacks for a fraction of the price ($80), only downside is that it's HEAVYIt also uses a fuck ton of electricity.I plugged it into a calculator and if you have the screen on for 12 hours a day, your $80 TV costs $578 of electricity per year (here in Germany. In the US it costs about half of that)
>>108819897Forgot to write:So after 3 years of watching TV, your $80 Plasma has more cost than a $1000 OLED and after that you're just losing even more money
>>108819878Emulating a CRT requires 15000+ fps, also 16-32K resolution at least.
>>108819917Why would you want to emulate one anyway? I had an 800 x 600 CRT as a child and it sucked ass in every aspect.
>>108819897>lcd and led separatedwho's gonna tell them?
>>108819917Perfect emulation and the minimum bar to fool the human eye are two different things, we already have backlight strobing tech and it does wonders with motion blur
>>108819534this, plus afaik best Plasmas (Panasonic) achieved their black levels by using some coating, that also wears down.I still have a V20 plasma in my bedroom, it's a good TV and for what it's worth great in 2026 without the smart TV bullshit, but the black levels are now gone and the image retention is quite noticeable now
>>108819929I've been using a Panasonic plasma for the last 5 or so years. Image is still good when playing blu rays but I've noticed more modern stuff that use HDR are extremely dark. Dunno if this is still the case with OLED but I can't seem to get the black levels just right for everything I watch.
>>108819517>go on serbian equivalent to craigslist>plasmas are stupid expensiveFUUUUUUUUUUUUCKYOU FUCKING NIGGERS FUCK YOUAt least you can get an HD CRT for $30, seems no one wants those things at all.High end PC CRTs don't exist and when they do the guy lists it for $400 and I watch as he gradually drops the price down to $150 over the course of YEARS, you couldn't make that shit up I saw it. I don't know if he ever even sold it for that much or is it still listed 5 years later for even less.
>>108819917The human eye can only see 24fps at 320x200 resolution
>>108819517>>get OLED quality blacksNo.But the motion clarity can't be beat. Got my parents got a new TV but when it comes to sports we still watch them on the panasonic plasma. It simply cannot be beaten those OLED and MiniLED models do not compete. OLED was particularly bad. I guess they expect super crisp bluray level inputs but that's not what comes through the crappy network transport streams
>>108819517I had a Samsung plasma TV from 2012 and used it for a solid decade, but no way are the blacks or colours as good as the LG OLED I eventually replaced it with in 2023. And the plasma had a screen so reflective that you could only watch stuff at night or with blackout curtains.
>>10881953442" Samsung from 2007, Maybe 2 hours of view time total, rock solid but don't need it. No idea how to get rid of it and my 61" plasma. The clarity on the Samsung is fantastic except it's 720p.
