Programing is getting weird with all AI stuff and emerging of "volume over quality" trend and I start to dislike it, specifically the people that surround it. At the same time I know a boomer who could take me under his wing, teach me auto mechanics in all around, and give me a job at his garage.
Should I take my chance and change my career path? I'm almost 25, btw.

(Salaries for IT workers and auto mechanics are roughly the same in my country)

problem is, I am really good at what I am doing

Problem is, nobody in management has ever given the slightest shit. You are more likely to be replaced than OP because your comment shows you have 0 clue about how enterprises work, meaning you have never worked before, meaning you have no experience with navigating office politics (the only thing relevant to having a job in 2026).

Its hilarious how many implicitly accept most office works arnt outproducing their homeless counter parts on the streets below them.

this isn't a new thing, management has always been quantity-over-quality because it's easy to measure quantity but hard to measure quality.
the only difference is that they now have the tools to produce slop on a never-before-seen scale.
you would probably find the same thing at an auto mechanic shop, that the manager cares a lot about how many cars you service but cares much less about how well they were serviced.

Nothing OP has said points to him understanding office politics or how enterprises work, either.

No, but OP is warry while that guy is not. Given how office politics work, that is a better stance that lead to higher likelihood of survival.

Stay as long as you can. There's always someone gunning for your job or someone gunning to replace you with A.I.
