What does "Cloud Mode" mean? Why does a controller need two different configurations for local and cloud gayming

my guess? it probably connects to your wifi and sends packets directly to MS bypassing the added input from bluetooth and the OS to reduce input lag
I dunno how well that would work in practice

It's cloud based, meaning it sends your input + dick information + voice recordings with every single package to m$ Ai server farms.

What’s a good gaming controller for pc gaming that will last years?
Heard a lot of original wired Xbox controllers lasted well over a decade before problems happened.
Also linux compatibility necessary.
Wired preferably too.
>>
There will be no new Xbox.

The platform is dead.
>>
Why do they keep reinventing the d-pad? The series controller is fantastic for 2d games.
>>
>>108826937
>>108826965
Maybe it's intended to work like the Stadia controller?
As in it connects to the wifi directly rather than going through your computer to reduce latency for cloud games.
>>
Xbox is dead so who is going to buy it?
>>
>>108827400
Probably one of the chink third party ones, but they look like toys so I haven't looked into them too much.
But from what I've seen they match or surpass the build quality and come with TMR sticks at a much lower price point.
>>
>>108827476
PC players that love microsoft, the 2 of them
>>
>>108827476
The new Xbox CEO seems more savvy than anticipated, but I'm not sure in the current state of the market trying to deliver a console that's affordable might be the smarter move and shelve helix because it's going to cost too damn much.

Unless their strat really is 'if you can't afford the $1500 console use our cloud'
>>
>>108827388
As someone who has tried to use a large trackball to scroll, it's difficult to move perfectly vertically or horizontally across the ball without adding a bit of wobble that will cause unintended scrolling without a large deadzone.

The perfect scroll solution is 2 separate wheels, although I prefer when one actually goes side to side like on the MX master.

>>108827400
Right now, probably the steam controller. Only one with half-decent remapping options, and it's in an overlay so you don't need some stupid application open in the background or a limited number of swappable maps.
>>
>>108827539
How well will it be for games that aren’t on steam if I choose to not use steam to play a game?
>t. Still plays Wizard101 before steam release
Is the old steam controller still applicable or is it better to sell it to a collector now?
>>
How’s the Logitech f310 wired controller on Linux? Might dig it up and try it for dank souls.
>>
>>108827554
You can add games to steam, and there is at least one external tool (SISR) that works fine in windows for creating a virtual 360 pad. Mapping to keyboard and mouse will work for everything else, right now I'm using action sets to quick swap between a mouse based desktop profile, 360 gamepad, and one for RPGmaker keyboard input, which makes a little noise and pops up with the name of the profile in the bottom corner of the screen.
>>
>>108827578
I dislike action sets because as far as I know there's no way to bind them to either the steam or the three dot button
The default binding on desktop/gamepad layout for when games don't get focused (for instance on linux with wine on wayland) is holding the start button. There just so happens to be a fairly popular game that released about 2 months ago that uses that for a quick menu. Wish you could just hold the three dot button and I don't know, left or right on the d-pad to change the action sets (or LB/RB).
>>
>>108826937
cloud mode means interactive movie walking sims are played by Copilot
>>
>>108827596
Yeah, I've got mine mapped to long pressing start, which generally doesn't conflict with anything else. It would be nice if you could change action sets through the guide button layer, but that doesn't affect the regular layout and is treated as a separate thing. Easiest option would probably be to add a chord or just move it to select for that chinkshit.

>Unless their strat really is 'if you can't afford the $1500 console use our cloud'
The thing about consoles now is there's always a glut of last gen users. Same as with any other generational change there will inevitably be cross gen ports for the foreseeable future. Cross gen porting is being held for longer and longer periods of time. We don't even know if helix will have a "S" version. The way xbox handled the s version ls of their consoles really fucked them over, and alot of games have been severely gimped on all systems for the xboxone s and series s, and that's been happening for over a decade. Ironically the one s and series s caused alot of developers to optimize their games. If there's a helix s then it will be a good indicator for other systems on whether or not their stable. If it runs on whatever potato Microsoft is releasing then it will potentially run on the steam machine.

>>
>>108826907
unless they swapped to HE or TMR sticks and some proper buttons this thing will remain an overpriced pile of shit compared to third party. The current ASUS controller is overpriced as well but at least decent if you insist on branding.

Whenever there is a new model it means that someone has "optimized" something which translates into cheaper manufacturing costs and cheaper components.
You can see the progression with XB1 controller -> XB Series controller. XB Series has actually built in time out, its bumpers have a thin plastic part which is angled, meaning that eventually the plastic tires and breaks down and the buttons stop registering. For some people this can happen after a year, for some bit later.
If the plastic rod was straight and bit thicker, it would not break down like that.
Everything what Microsoft puts out is shit.
>>
>>108835085
The peak xbox controllers were ironically the og small xbox controllers. Its been downhill since then.

Is there a video of someone beating Dark Souls with this?
>>
>>108835188
This was controller was made in the 70s, so some boomer probably made fond memories beating their wife over the head with it.

A quirky millennial would likely tie two of these together and then use them as nunchucks to beat their wife. This would only happen after having their brain thoroughly turned to a pink mush after years of abusing antidepressants. The Boomer on the other hand, is into domestic abuse for the love of the game.

>>108832259
Literally all they have to do is revert it to the 1708 model dpad. I swear it's one of the best dpads ever. I even bought another one, right before they were phasing this model out, just because of it.
>>
>>108826907

>>
>>108835143
revised 360 has the same dpad
>>
>>108832259
>>108835712
ITT dumb niggers
the problem with the 360 was not the shape or design of the pad, it was entirely that there wasn't enough space for the mechanism to freely rotate
people literally completely fixed it themselves by just disassembling the shell and sanding down the edges to give it more room to move

in any case, they're not going back to that design anyway, all the new dpads regardless of the upper cover is using the new clicky switches underneath
>>
>>108827177
I had that, it was the comfiest mouse I've ever used.
>>
>>108835541
I personally don't like the clicky dpad on it, but it is absolutely the best dpad on an xbox controller (I did buy another DS4 when they started phasing them out though), and it's clearly a huge step up from their previous garbage.
>>108835764
Nah, when you play games that actually need a dpad (like 2d games), you don't want the meme design.
>>
>>108826907
why can't they modernize the Xbox 360 controller and just improve that for future consoles
