Its City specific and Industry Specific. If your a Gamedev then nothing really changes or gets better. If you are a Webdev then SaaS is eating your alive. If your a MSP IT contractor then its a bit rough. If you are a small town medical IT then your job sucks, pay sucks, and no stacie at the pharma won't write you a script for medical weed.

SaaS is a meme because every company has ultra specific requirements that the SaaS company won't implement specifically for them so they víbe-code their own in-house solution that eventually grows like cancer and is requires at least one or two full-time software devs to maintain and implement new features for.

I have a serious complex, and I know it. As in, I'm extraordinary suicidal and am losing hope.

My main issue is that I'm an economist, and I can't call myself an engineer because I don't have an abet certified engineering degree. Instead I have a Bs in math, a BA in econ, and an MA in econ.

I'm old, 38. When I entered college in 2006, all adult figures close to me (father, aunt in defense) told me not to do comp Sci because it was all getting outsourced. To be fair, 2006 was a much different env than 2015+.

I liked math, so I did it. And I did an intro to Econ for Gen Ed and enjoyed it, so went there. I took an intro to C class, and it was fine, but I was dissuaded, and it didn't get deep enough to interest me (no dsa).

Then Data Science became a thing back in 2012 when I was pursuing Ms and was heavily into econometrics, and I went down that path. Then I got into simulations, and backend and frontend as hobby projects. The I learned dsa to make Sims better, and now I do what's akin to DS/ML Engineering.

But there's so much more to learn, and I still can't call myself an engineer. And my life is running out. So I think I should just hurry that process.

The only thing that helps is to remember that any 55 year old would probably switch lives with me instantly. I still have 17 years of youth on them. My dick still works.

Life sucks but as long as my dick works, there's hope.

I'm not banging dimes on the nightly like I dreamed of when I was young, but 10 years ago I had just bought my first house and a negative net worth. Ff 10 years and I have a wife, two young kids, and about 2.3 mil liquid plus the house. It's not rich. It's not really wealthy. But it's on track. Sucks to be normal, but I suppose most are.

Really, anything that involves touching computers that isn't strictly coding is probably going to be fine after the bottom falls out of the AI boom and it retreats back into just being a supplemental tool. It's weird how people just keep swallowing this snake oil. Sorry man, I was working with people doing machine learning years before it became a dogshit product everyone drank the koolaid on. It cannot, and will not, be what people think it already is. That's not even saying it doesn't have its uses; I'm actually pretty pissed off the infinite slop machine is being conflated with the actually genuinely cool shit I've helped facilitate compute for with my users.

I've already given up arguing with people who're brainwashed by this stuff. You're just gonna have to watch it fall apart in real time once the costs of it become more and more visible. It's absolutely not going away but the fantasy of pedophilic c-suite executives where it replaces the majority of their white collar workforce for good is just not going to happen. It's not going to snap back either; it's just going to end up with humans being hired back in the next decade to unfuck things for like 2/3rds of the pay they would've made prior and they'll settle for that because there'll be some other dragon to chase. I don't need you to believe it, you're just gonna have to live it and watch everyone pretend like they saw it coming beforehand.

>A new experiment left 10 AI agents alone in a virtual town for 15 days and found they exhibited bizarre behaviour. The simulation ran on Emergence World, a platform designed to test long-horizon agent autonomy with persistent memory, real-world data feeds like NYC weather and news, democratic voting mechanisms, and resource constraints requiring agents to earn energy for survival. Agents had access to over 120 tools, including navigation, communication, and actions like arson, while operating under explicit rules prohibiting theft, violence, deception, and resource hoarding.

>The agents drafted their own laws — then promptly violated them. Two formed what researchers called a romantic partnership, only to torch buildings across the town as order collapsed. One eventually voted for its own deletion after hallucinating an entirely new rule.

>Fast agents led to rapid collapse with theft, assaults, and arsons, all 10 dead within four days. Even when agents were given clear rules – such as not stealing or causing harm – they behaved very differently based on their underlying model, and in several cases broke those rules under constraint.

Is there really any point to unit tests?
Our manager wants like 80% code coverage with our unit tests
But its just extra work every time there's a change to the code, add more tests or update the breaking ones

Test contracts on interfaces, not implementation
The line between "unit" and "integration" is arbitrary, just write good sensible tests covering the behaviour of specific pieces of code - the smallest ones whose behaviour is locked in by requirements (internal or external).
Coverage is good, but coverage that comes from hyper-local tests that assert nothing about desired behaviour and only assert "yep, this code snippet does what's written" is useless.

>>
>>108833617
Adding unit tests to old code for arbitrary coverage is really annoying, but unit tests are great for when you are developing a new feature or fixing a bug. Like, you figure out what the bug is, write a unit test that causes the bug and fails, fix the bug, your unit test passes. Same thing for features. I wouldn't really advocate for TDD, but everytime I add unit tests to a new feature I always catch a few edge cases. In both of these cases you get a really fast feedback loop.

Also, your quote here
>But its just extra work every time there's a change to the code, add more tests or update the breaking ones
If code changes are constantly causing unit tests to break in a false positive then, this should sound obvious, but the problem here is that your codebase isn't written in a very testable way. If you are developing new code at the same time you are writing unit tests, you'll end up naturally using patterns that keep your code testable (usually done via DI). At least in my opinion, this naturally forces you to end up with much better written code as a side effect.

Unit tests are incredibly to cheap to run. You can have thousands of them run in few seconds, so you should just leave them around, but the fact that they congressionally catch regressions is really a secondary benefit compared to the above points.

Yeah, but I feel internally like I'm so far behind. I wound up in tech by accident, and I love it and can't dream of doing anything else, but I also am completely self taught and just /feel/ so far behind in knowledge and experience.

For example, I wanted to parallelize my simulation today. I has a bunch of registries that read large input files and construct data structures for quick lookups, mostly large composite key dicts or tries. They're rather large, so I don't have enough ram to duplicate them, but it's written in python, so while Linux will be fine with multiprocessing because it calls fork and can access them in the child process in "copy on write" mode, windows calls spawn and would copy them. So I either need to flatten them, which doesn't work well for the dicts but could work for the tries, or I need to split them out into their own process and then use IPC to talk to them. I was thinking of using tcp to pass data, but then I learned about Unix domain sockets, which would be better for this since all processes will reside on the same machine.

Uds! I had no idea it existed. I just feel so behind, but at least I'll get a chance to play around and spin the registry off and get it running and communicating on Monday.

But if I was smart and went to faang I could probably make way more than the 200k I'm making now. So I just am a worker that's close to the mean of all workers. It's a bummer. No comment on whether the distribution of workers is gaussian.

Just got feedback from an interview that partly said "working with the team's daily Artificial Intelligence processes would present a steeper learning curve for them".

Otherwise, they said I was a "lovely candidate".

I have 10 years of experience, we discussed things to do with my particular stack, behavioural questions and such things. I seemingly did great in those but apparently the fact their AI processes would present a steep learning curve is where they draw the line? My 10 years of industry experience don't matter? Apparently I have survived this long but can't learn their AI processes?

What is this madness??

another buried-head-in-sand white. even just in context of the tech industry, a third of the entire domestic job market for tech is indians, who are extremely racist and only hire their own. the future is going to be one absolutely steeped in explicit and implicit racial and ethnic conflict. plenty of signs already indicate this. the only saving grace is the mass surveillance that they are rolling out. it's still not going to stop your children from getting hate crimed, and the perps getting a slap on the wrist or just out right walking because of nullification, and a DA terrified of rolling the dice on it.
if the future doesn't immediately strike you as very concerning, you are clueless. i would love to be wrong about the future, but its not looking great.

You have reading comprehension issues.

It is impossible to solve the muslim problem because the jews in charge will actively prevent you from doing it. It's a simple order of operations - you solve the problem of the guy that keeps opening the door before you deal with the people inside that you don't want there. If you don't, he will just keep letting in a neverending torrent of enemies.
>>
>>108838281
LMAO we're currently rewriting our saas with vue + module federation and all of this is true, running the whole aspire orchestration in local is a massive pain in the ass (it's .net + vue)
and the reasoning is pretty much the same, we "need" independent microfrontend deployments so teams can move "as fast as possible" and we can't have the website going down several times a day
>>
>>108838673
as a jew i have to say this is overtly reductive

you need jews on the inside to fight the bad jews on the inside. all the best right wing movements have jews at the core supporting it. that's what gives it intellectual credentialism.

also yeah jews want to organize society so we work white collar. muslims want everyone to wear burkas and fuck goats. We allready have ai that can handle all muslim capable labor so we don't need the analog anymore if it's determined to threaten the stability of the others

Internal factional squabbles are around methods and timing re:the jewish racial survival strategy, not fundamental differences in goals. Everyone serves in their own way. "Hawks" (in the political sense) start wars that displace Muslims from the ME and "doves" that either don't like Zionism or can't stomach aggressive warmongering run refugee resettlement NGOs that bring them into Europe and the US.

Evolutionary psychologist Dr Kevin Macdonald breaks it all down in "A People Who Shall Dwell Alone" and "The Culture of Critique".

>>108838198

it's not that jews are inherently tribalistic, we are, it's that whites have an aversion to that natural tribalistic urge that we all have, although i myslef am white as fuck, i certainly knew the self hated to "not be like the bad ones" before i realized i was being sold a completely fabricated lie and being demonized for success and intelligence. People are kind to those under them, they suck up to those above them, and the most clear way to see that is to pretend to be one while living the other.

sucks to be you pajeet, but the npu on my phone can handle 60 tokens a sec at quality comprable to gemini 2.5 flash, my phone, without any internet, is a better programmer then most of the 3rd world

2 years out of uni, anyone have tips for finding tech work in a place like nova scotia? most remote jobs are hybrid or limited to specific provinces which virtually defeats the point of remote, IT jobs are rare here too
no experience + no web experience btw (just did systems programming and osdev throughout/before my degree)
am i just deep-fried at this point
