>>108836394I am using Fedora kinoite.>>install atomic distro>>need containers to change wallpaperNot really, you don't need a container you can just use rpm-ostree and not use containers at all. But it's a component manager rather than a traditional package manager, you install packages only really when there is no good alternatives or you like to work system-wide.You can do lot's of stuff just not in a destructive way. And if you somehow fuck it up you can rollback.

>>108837703You can change the wallpaper without using containers.
>>108836394I don't use an immutable/atomic distro atm, but I daily drove one. They are giga reliable and the term "immutable" is actually misleading. You can still install shit and it's persistent, you just don't modify the system base at runtime. 90% could easily daily drive an atomic distro. The problem is just, those distros are "marketed" at beginners, but those distros have a different learning curve. So I actually like what the ublue team is doing, most people don't even need to layer stuff, because everything they ever want is already included in the image and if it's not, it's most likely available as flatpak or appimage. Not only is this shit way more reliable, it's also a bit more secure. And if you follow the current Linux trends, you can clearly see that this is where we are going in the "future". SteamOS, Fedora Atomic, openSUSE MicroOS, Ubuntu Core... all Distros with a big name and liability are moving to the "immutable" side of things. You can't deploy fucking archlinux and expect your customers to manage it properly.Android.. iOS, MacOS all of this shit is immutable. But the good thing on Linux? You have Distrobox, Toolbox, Brew, Flatpak, AppImage, Layering... it literally doesn't matter for most people, you only benefit from it as a ""REGULAR"" user. Or are you a faggot who needs to install weird ass kernel modules all the time?
>>108836394Only advancement in the Linux distribution space that isn't a LARP.
i think it's a cool idea. i run kinoite-gts on my laptop. hopefully it stays supported for a bit. and yes, on a well designed immutable distro you really shouldn't need to install packages unless it's something like firmware for your wi-fi card.
>>108836394pointless if you're not a giga-retard that needs guardrails. if you are, have fun doing extra steps the rest of us don't have to
