You can only achieve that state when you're given a sane and intuitive tool. Mac, Windows and I suppose KDE can do this. With GNOME, you spend time figuring out how to escape their straight jacket.
>>
>>108838487
Only retards would use GNOME, so it makes sense.

The thing is, GNOME, while shit, somehow still manages to be better than the alternatives. It's really sad.
>>
>>108838652
The advantage GNOME has over KDE is that it doesn't Krash as much, and looks a bit nicer out of the box. Windows mogs both of them.

GNOME requires lots of extensions to become usable, and has silly animations that get very repetitive if you're navigating by keyboard. Seriously, who thought it'd be a good idea to shrink and tile your windows everytime you want to search, maybe you'd like to search for something mentioned in a document you're reading? Too bad, it's pulled away and then your eye has to refocus as it moves. There's no usecase for this at all, the GNOME guys just saw MacOS Expose and wanted it too.
>>
>>108838698
Explain which extensions you "need".

Is Ctrl-C + Ctrl-V now a poweruser thing? What's next? GNOME bad because it doesn't read your mind?

He cares deeply about his workspace, that's why he wants it as quiet and clean as it can get so he can just focus on his work. He goes out of his way to buy specific hardware so that it makes as little noise as possible. GNOME is an extension of that.

You can use the super user account by typing "admin://" in the address bar. But the root directory's read permissions should never be restricted anyways.

Gnome becomes perfect for me with two extensions:
>Dash to panel (intellihide on overlap, bottom, full width ungrouped)
Basically gives you the windows taskbar, especially nice to bring the clock down to the bottom right.

Now I don't need KDE.

gtk sucks balls and adwaita especially looks like vomit
meanwhile on qt: your custom theme only breaks with major version bumps, and even in those cases it gets fixed pretty quickly
there's a reason why kvantum has no gtk equivalent
>>
>>108845061
Just stop using updooter distributions.

From a developer perspective, I can assure you that GTK is FAR easier to use than Qt. It's also way easier to write bindings for it in other languages since it's just a C library.

Meanwhile Qt needs its own additional compiler (the MOC) and using it from anything outside of Sepples and maybe Python is a pain.
>>
>>108845135
>From a developer perspective
and why should I care about that as an end user? I want my system to look good and be usable, and gtk fails miserably at both.

>Just stop using updooter distributions.
Even if you're deliberately one version behind, that's only six months to catch up. What if theme designers don't use updooter distributions either? What if you're designing your own theme and don't want the burden of maintaining it twice a year?

Heck, even subminor versions have a history of making changes. They added a new CSS class in 3.24.x at some point, after the last minor version had already released.

I really want to like GTK, but upstream sure loves to treat it like the Ganges river sometimes.
