Why should I buy this over using Brave search, Startpage or some self-hosted meta-search engine?
>>108845170Because it is genuinely good.

>>108845256Just a happy customer sir.
>>108845170kagi if you want to signal your status to hipstersgoogle if you want to blend in with normiesanything else if you are good with computers
>>108845170It's paid? I've been using it for like 4 months and paid zero.
>>108845178fpbphave a (you)
>>108845271>hipstersdamn is it 2010 or something
>>1088452952010 hipsters are now 36 and still buying craft beer, anon
>>108845316inb4>imagine being so alcoholic you talk about computers and think about beer
>>108845170>or some self-hosted meta-search engine?Tell me more. And get that bitch off my face, I hate it.What are the self-hosted search engines? Do you have experience of running your own web scraper? How much time does it take to go through top 1000 websites? How do you treat SPA bullshit, do you actually spin up a headless browser for that? Modern catpcha bypassing? Any advice on architecture? Do I run web scrapers on a cheap VPS and only send valuable data or do I just proxy it all the way to my own hardware to a dedicated VM or smth?
>>108845322>imagine being at craft beer>so hipster you look and see coffee
kagi is hosted @ google (34.111.242.115). but still i think its better front-end for it then fucking startpage @ the fucking haguecraft beer mogs mainstreem beer
To support their browser development
>>108845571soon to be obsoleted by ladybird
>>108845170https://blog.kagi.com/waiting-dawn-search>Google does not offer a public search API. The only available path is an ad-syndication bundle with no changes to result presentation - the model Startpage uses. Ad syndication is a non-starter for Kagi's ad-free subscription model.
>>108845170Happy customer for a year but now i self host sear xng. Sear is much worse
>>108847050Please tell me more about this, ive been meaning to do set it up to continue in my degoogling effort but i never got around to it. Could you answer a few questions? Is it a practicwlly plug and play solution? I host a NAS so im fine with it being more effort but id like to know in advance how easy itll be.How are the results? For obscure things (say, Andean Endemic Wildlife specifics) and for more general things (glibc docs), as well as for porn/youtube/twitter, etc normieslop searching? I understand youre meant to tune it as you use it if im not mistaken. Please elaborate on those topics if possible. Thanks
>>108845383He said metasearch engine. It just proxies and aggregates your queries for public search engines of your choosing. If you're the only one using the instance you're just as if not more trackable.
>>108847050i think searx was abandoned and searxng is the new one.
i miss whooglegoogle's results with ddg's bangs and no adskagi's good but it's not nearly as good as google without the junk
>>108845170i think the only selling point kagi has is that the idea of paying for a search engine is so absurd that you start to think "wait... if people are seriously paying for this shit, maybe it actually is good?" and then some percentage of those people forget to unsubscribe
There's no reason really. The best search engine is Brave over 4get. Else ddg is good enough.
