You can restore them, there are periodic backups in your firefox profile folder. I had to do it once too when I accidentally closed my 2000 exhentai tabs.

Do this every once in a while. From the bookmarks menu you can open a whole folder of tabs at once to restore them.

what helped me destroy this habit is that if i don't have the urge to immediately download something, then it's not worth keeping the tab open/bookmark it. no such thing as "for later".
if i didn't save it, i probably had a reason/wasn't worth it.

If i have more than 3 tabs open i get upset, I close tabs as soon as I'm done with it.

There's no reason private tabs shouldn't survive restarts, they're overloading the concept. It's supposes to be privacy online, but of course gooners want it to be an easy way to delete the browser history. In related news, private browsing is also stupid because the private tabs all share a container. They should be separate containers by default.

If there's a page you use every day it makes sense to keep it open. I never "close" a tab, I just limit my browsing to 6 tabs at once so I never need to scroll and search.
