what's gonna happen when he dies?
Nothing.
>>108846351instantly forgotten about and washed away in the dustbin of history like dennis ritchie was. visionaries and pioneers like tim apple will be remembered for all time, however
>>108846351i will rub one out in his honour
>>108846351You know what happened to that other one?
>>108846351>what's gonna happen when he dies? We'll rewrite him in Rust.
>>108846351>what's gonna happen when he dies?I'll be sad, I still can't believe I live in the same timeline as my heroes. Sadly I'm a shut-in and I'll never meet him in person. My dad taught me programming very early on and I got obsessed with Unix and Linux. I respect Ken so much, although I'm sure I'm a better programmer by now, but this man is a living legend. This is like living with Einstein or Mozart in the same timeline. I learned about Unix because of him, I learned C and I later on learned fucking Golang, because I heard about his involvement. So yes, I'll be very sad. I'm currently writing my Master's thesis and I got heavily influenced by Mr Thompsons "Trusting Trust" from 1984.
>>108846434Just check if he plans on doing any events or shows up to any programming conference and go there. You'll regret it for the rest of your life if you don't at least try at some point.
>>108846351He will go to heaven?
>>108846484>He will go to heaven? If I remember right the people you screwed over have to give you a go, to go to heaven.Grim
>>108846351nothing, big tech will erase history as always
world will rejoice
Who?
>>108846351there'll be a sticky for a few days, but c and go will live forever.
>>108846484>Go to inexistence
>>108846351The year of the Lisp Machine will happen.

>>108847231Well duh, Lain is a MtF icon.
>>108847535Dilating to this rn
>>108846434happy to see somebody in the new school that gets it
They'll finally meet up again.
>>108846351His legacy is being rewritten in rust as we speak.
>>108846434>I'm sure I'm a better programmer by nowlol
>>108846351holy shit, doesn't look live he's alive
>>108846351>Kenneth Lane Thompson (born February 4, 1943) is an American pioneer of computer science. Thompson worked at Bell Labs for most of his career where he designed and implemented the original Unix operating system. He also invented the B programming language, the direct predecessor to the C language, and was one of the creators and early developers of the Plan 9 operating system. Other notable contributions included his work on regular expressions and early computer text editors QED and ed, the definition of the UTF-8 encoding, and his work on computer chess that included the creation of endgame tablebases and the chess machine Belle.>Since 2006, Thompson has worked at Google, where he co-developed the Go language. In 1983, he won the Turing Award with his long-term colleague Dennis Ritchie.[3] He is considered one of the greatest computer programmers of all time.[4][5][6] Honestly didn't know about him, but I've had the joy of using some of the things he's designed, unix and regex, what an absolute legend, so what's the story, with unix and shell someone care to explain? I fuking love bash.
>>108846375>history like dennis ritchie wasunix and c are still around and will be for many years.
>>108846351Unix is already destined to die at the 32bit limitSo nothing, for a while
>>108846351he makes nu-faggots seethe, so pretty based 2bh

>>108851879they said same about five digit odometer car
>>108846434Back then programmers were real scientists, and were employed for real problems. Now most great minds are making the new AI slop, or trying to make you click ads.
>>108851575He basically wrote most of unix himself using ed(1) That should be enough for you.
>>108846351Some jew will co-opt all of his accomplishments and start rewriting history that Thompson stole all of his ideas from a black mailroom worker.
>>108853980Now it will be some woman who updated the readme who will be praised as the programmer of unix.
