>>108854645Give it time and eventually AI will be good enough to patch Wine fully to run the entire Creative Suite.https://www.phoronix.com/news/Adobe-Lightroom-CC-Linux
>>108854700>Claude CodeI guess it's nice that it's running, but I am deeply concerned about open source developers becoming dependent on proprietary LLMs to develop their software.
>>108854726This isn't open source developers, it's just some random person that prompted Claude "Get Adobe Lightroom working on Wine" and then it just went and did it. Pretty fascinating that it's gotten good enough to do that now. This is not a simple thing, it had to stub and patch various DLLs, etc. Well done, Claude!
>>108854736By that, I mean it's not a Wine developer. Obviously, they're a developer themselves.
>>108854391>PC GamerI'm not a /v/edditor thankfully.
>>108854459>His employer is too greedy to supply a work PClol
>>108854736Maybe, but I was wondering that if they have to use AI, would open LLMs such as Gemma 4, Qwen Code, DeepSeek Coder or Llama 4 also be viable as alternatives for software development?
>>108854776I don't know if anyone has seriously compared them for a complex task like this. If given the exact same prompt could they also get Lightroom running in Wine?I think they would probably end up hallucinating or outright failing because most people don't have the same sort of compute power Claude has to fit giant models into their VRAM.It would be interesting to compare them though. Stuff like this is a real practical test of their capabilities, unlike the LLM benchmark slop people use to compare models which tells you absolutely nothing about their real capabilities, and they cheat on it anyway.

>>108854736I've been able to get a bunch of old games to work through wine that I couldn't get working before. But I make it harder for myself by using only pure wine and nothing else (no Steam) because I'm gay or something. But anyway the AI was dangerously good. It didn't just change settings. It was applying patches to the EXE, editing libraries and other binary files directly. It was doing some kind of surface level decompilation, learning how code worked.I've patched EXE files on my own before, but that was because I had the patch information from someone else. I didn't know you could extract so much information from binary files until now.

I think KDE is good, been using it for couple months on cachyOS but still rough around the edges even in the lastest 6.6.5For starters the defaults out of the box are way too overwhelming for the system tray. Too many icons on the tray. It should be maximum sound, internet and brightness with battery popping up if it detects a battery with date and time mimicing windows 10.alt+tab switcher style, the icons are not properly scaled so they look blurry if they arent native icons which makes it look unpolished. So my solution is to add an option to get rid of the icons or just make them 20% of their current sizeScreen edges are annoying and should be disabled by defaultHaruna and Kcalc are not good system utilties and should be entirely rewritten. Haruna visibly lags when resizing a playing video, this doesnt happen on MPV or VLC. Kcalc is just a bad calculator app that is hard to use and read. There's not even a thousands separator lol.Flatpaks should be pivoted to be the default app manager on linux to make adoption faster and so companies can ship programs for linux in a universal way.
>>108858319The Steam flatpak is utter garbage and unofficial.
>>108854459i just run a windows VM for fusion
>>108854391i only use my home PC for gaming, so I just don't see the appeal of losing both performance and features as an Nvidia user. believe me I tried, and games run fine. But a 10-15% performance loss is a dealbreaker at 4k for me.
>>108854391>They switched to Linuxthis is how to make the change happen, you need tech youtubers to make the jump then report back on their difficulty and fixes. maybe it's still frustrating hell. maybe most games don't work. maybe it's actually great and windows is history. I don't want to try I want to see others try.

>>108858538But webview.
>>108858545while that statment is true, the games i wanna play are often in the newer side (where you can see the performance hit). hopefully nvidia gets their shit together soon
>>108858573Has always worked, you just have to use winetricks.

>>108858214I have never encountered any AI features on Windows 11 so I don't even know what people complain about. Copilot is just a webapp that opens the copilot website in it's own little app. I just disabled it since I don't use it. Looking something up with copilot is no different than using google search in terms of privacy. And recall is something that is disabled by default and you have to opt-into. Also it runs completly on your PC and never sends anything to a remote server. You could argue that those features are currently pretty bad but it will only get better in the future with better local models and better consumer hardware to run them. There are tons of very useful AI features like speech-to-text, OCR, text summarization, spell and grammar check, translation and so on. It would be amazing to have all those integrated into an OS but phones will most likely be the first to adopt all that since the hardware is more uniform.
