>>108858645There is one web, there's not really any need for more than one web engine. Blink and Chromium writ large follow bazaar-style development, cooperate readily with other W3C members, and consistently demonstrate that they're simply best-in-class for compatibility and performance without any need of proprietary lock-in. For this and other reasons, any comparisons to IE are multiple levels of invalid. However, there is much value to be added by multiple browsers existing for the sake of the lowercase-c chrome: the UI elements and layout, the features, the extension systems, etc. Most Chromium browsers are essentially just clones of each other in terms of UI and UX (which are not synonyms). Which would be fine if they'd converged onto some naturally good design but in fact they are all converging on something that is very ugly and less usable and with more screen space tax than what we had 10 years ago. Safari has not been chasing these trends but has fairly poor compatibility and performance. Firefox is both chasing trends and has poor compatibility and performance. Grim.
i didn't realize firefox was *that* unpopular.
>>108859182It's their job. They are paid by google to exist, but be less popular.
