I'm looking to buy a laptop after not having had one for about 15 years. I don't like iphones. Am I going to regret buying a Macbook air or should I go with a windows laptop? The MacBook seems better in every way, I am just worried maybe some of my daytrading apps won't run on it. The battery is better usually. Windows computers seem complicated with a million different processors, graphics cards, brands etc and apple is just a few options. I haven't used an apple product since I was in high school. My budget is like 1500 Canadian dollars and I can't find a comparable windows laptop for this price. Unless it's plastic junk, acer or low end HP, lenovo etc.
>>108860638Get a samsung galaxy book pro4/5/6 whatever is cheapest.
>>108860638Get a MacBook Neo.
>>108860777That's tempting too, yes. It's definitely a nice price
>>108860877Just buy it and try it out. If you don’t like it, you can return it for a full refund.
>>108860638>Am I going to regret buying a Macbook air or should I go with a windows laptop?despite EVERYTHING Apple has done MacOS is still hot garbage that supports jackshitJust get a Thinkpad or something idk
>>108860638I've used Windows & Linux my entire life and switched to Macbook this year. Honestly very impressed. I'm not sure why Apple gets such a bad rep desu. Expensive, but great experience so far.
>>108861476I've always assumed apples aren't as customizable. Locked down software, less apps designed for them. And also every npc seems to have an apple device. But maybe there's a reason for it I don't know. The business model of apple seems to suggest you will get better hardware at a better price just because the product lines are less diverse. And the battery life seems a lot better also. You basically need to get a snapdragon laptop to get a good battery life at a decent price and then you have the problem of compatibility with the snapdragon processor
>>108860638I switched to a MacBook when the M1 Pro released. Amazing hardware, after 5 and a half years still running fast and cool and battery life is still great. But Apple are becoming increasingly gay and are eager to lock down the OS, are starting to fill it with ads and ~*~services*~*~, and the latest design is approaching the shitty inconsistency of Windows.I don't think I'll be getting another. Maybe a Framework Pro in a year or two.
>>108861629MacOS is hardly locked downiOS is very locked downIf anything the change to Apple Silicone is really the only thing that made is feel more restrictive since not a lot of OS support it. There's like only one good Linux distro if you want to jump off MacOS (not sure why you would tho, it's a downgrade by all means).
>>108860638If your budget is below $1000, Macbook Neo is your only choice.Windows laptop does get a lot better if you pay more than $1000.
>>108862253I can get the new MacBook air here in for 1500 Canadian
>>108860687>galaxy pro It's better to buy apple. It costs more to just for a slight edge on graphics card. >>108860638It depends what your needs and desires are sounds generic but you need to really ask if things like video games are important, if not then apple is a tempting offer right now
>>108861476>I'm not sure why Apple gets such a bad rep desu.Their computers were total dogshit before the M1 processor came out. Now it's actually good.

I'm thinking of getting a macbook. My biggest question is what is the best machine to be future proofed. I do want to mostly use it while i'm at my office or away for business. Which means mostly internet, some hobby projects like logic pro/ and maybe video editing nothing too crazy. Some video games (I only play shit like ck3, total war, and emulate games on ryujinx) and just browsing>Macbook air M5 w/ 32gb of ram >Macbook M5 pro 48gb of ram>Macbook M5 pro max 36gb of ram
>>108860638refurbed x220. Now get
>>108863242Idk, it depends on your workload. Macbook Pro M5 base is probably enough for 99% of people. 48gb RAM sounds like complete overkill. I wouldn't get an Air unless you really want a light/slim laptop.
>>108863292I just want a machine that can do a bit of everything for about 5 to 10 years since it's not getting any cheaper. My only problem with this series is that it's either 24gb of ram or up to 48gb of ram and if you want in the 30s you have to do the 36gb of ram with the max which is right now why I'm leaning towards it
>>108863311Might as well max it out so you won't have to waste your life thinking about it.
>>108863334Do you know if those nano texture screen upgrades are worth it? I've heard mixed thing, and the thing I'm mostly worried about is longevity.
>>108863349I prefer glossy for max image quality. Nano texture is for reducing glare, it doesn't do anything in regards to longevity.
>>108863355Does it fade over time though? I'd lose my shit if I'm paying 4k for a machine and like 3 years in the screen looks like shit because some 150 dollar feature just naturally splotches and fades over time
>>108863367I don't know, all I know is I would never pay for that.
>>108860638>Am I going to regret buying a Macbook airYes. Dim display, no ports. Buy a second hand pro for the same price if you’re a poorfag, both m4 and m5 are fine. You sound like a faggot so apple is a good fit.
>>108860638Apple has a 14-day no-questions-asked return policy I’m an Apple main but I’ve bought stuff like the big iPad Pro and hated it and returned it in a week and went back to my 10.5"
>>108860777I was watching a raid array rebuild and zening out and it hit me, normies like you, apple marketing shill spammers, you will never be able to have an offline LANYou are too stupid and lazy. It's simply beyond you.The reasons why you would need one are incomprehensibe to someone who thinks brands are status symbols. The fact that LAN cables don't have a brand that signifies status to fools means you can't even understand why LAN cables exist or who would want one. I mean you know you are lying and selling awful underpowered overpriced 8gb uninspired thrash that traps consumers into an awful corporate walled garden cloud portal devices hell but you are so lacking ability, characater, morals, technical ability you are willing to spam this junk for low wages. That's your life. You probably spend most of it on food and rent and then use the free apple homosexual mating call product you get to sit in starbucks trying to hit on other men, hoping some elderly faggot will adopt you and you can live with them as a carer/prositute in exchange for some near geriatric ejaculating in your anus. Even if you won a lottery you would spend it all on overpriced, poor value brandslop logos and subscriptions, the little brain you have was completely overpowered by modern marketing, so much so you ended up a minion of it.You're the perfect example of the future digital slave, you will have to subscribe to get access to remote storage, cloud games, music, movies and computing resources accessed via terrible tiny screened, overpriced devices with awful specs deliberately designed to be useless for anything other that cloud access portals. Yet you will proudly display your slave brand logo as if telling the world you are a good slave before you go and let some geriatric ejaculate in your anus for food and then spend any time you have left spamming apple marketing idiocy in desperation to get another free sample because it means everything to you to own gank brandslop
>>108864482>That's your life. >>108864482> icrappleamazed crapple also has to follow basic retail consumer law on 30 days returns, thought apple was above such mortal concerns. fingers poloneck, wha can his mean?
>>108860638It's a jail, like an iPhone. If Apple's workflow doesn't suit you, too bad. The only macbooks worth getting is the ones that have good Asahi GNU/Linux support. Too bad that only goes up to the M2 generation.
>>108860638Since I am a non-retard, you really can't go wrong. I own both Windows and Mac laptops and desktops, because I am non-retarded and have money. One thing I will say is that Macs have better and more consistent build quality than Windows laptops every single time. They also do not get hot. But your day trading apps are not going to run.
>>108863242M5 pro 48gb. The Ram is the most important component. My parents M1 16GB is still moving along nicely because I got 16 for it instead of 8.
>>108865274Yeah, but that's 8 vs 16. The difference between 36 and 48 is way smaller.
>>108865248street shit harder pajeet
>>108865274No amount of RAM is enough for the steaming heap of currynigger shit that is crapple pajeetOS.
>>108865372What is caching for 500, Tom. It's amazing how a "Technology" board has no idea how RAM allocation works. Board is actually made up of iPad kids these days.
>>108863115>when you're so desperate for reasons to hate something you bring up stuff from over half a decade ago that affected one gen and was fixed
>>108860638>Am I going to regret buying a Macbook air or should I go with a windows laptop?Imo windows laptops are typically trash, except that good ones really do exist, but somehow in my country they're very rarely available and the customers doesn't even mind it>The MacBook seems better in every wayDepends on compared to what laptop, but MacBooks are reasonably good now, not like Intel era laptops. At least 16 GB of unified memory and at least 512 GB of storage is recommended>I am just worried maybe some of my daytrading apps won't run on itPossibly, you should check now if possible
>>108863311Nobody has ever kept a Mac for 10 years. Dont fool yourself.
