So I decided to give in to the hype and install CachyOs. For context, I've only ever used Linux Mint before.

Here's my current thoughts:

>Very smooth installation, I left everything on default and it went smooth as hell, surprisingly fast too.
>It comes with KDE Plasma as an option, and I'm loving it so far
>OS and browsing feel pretty damn good and clean on a Thinkpad T14 Gen1, I assume the effect is even better on newer hardware but so far the computer feels brand new.
>Getting to download all the important gaming-related packages with one button was neat.
>Default packages are a little bit barebones but nothing that installing a few packages didn't solve. For my needs I only really needed to download VCL and Libreoffice
>Weird selection of desktop wallpapers (picrelated) but whatever.
Still haven't tried downloading games yet, but I'm feeling way better with Cachy already than I did with Mint, and I liked Mint.

Stop using forked distros.
>>
>>108868196
Every Distro is a forked Distro dipshit, it came with your FOSS operating system.
>>
>>108868184
>OS and browsing feel pretty damn good
As is typical with the distro hopper, no real work is being accomplished.
>>
>>108868184
They have open Nvidia drivers, I recommend using OpenRazer if you have that. I switched back to X11 since a lot of things weren't working right on Wayland. I removed the stsrt up graphics. If you use a laptop, it will default to the integrated graphics card for some reason.
>>
>>108868276
I'm using an AMD CPU with no discrete GPU, so I think I'm good on that front.
>>
>>108868184
cachyos is what new linux users recommend each other
maybe cachyos actually works
but i know i can get everything working, easily, on either debian or fedora
i won't list everything, but i need clang, clang tools, a recent texlive distribution, nonfree codecs, etc.
and not from some literal who on the aur
>>
>>108868184
I don't get the hype about this distro. Is it just because of gayming?
>>
>>108868196
>nooooo you HAVE to use the distro I like!!!!
kill yourself along with whoever maintains your OS
>>
>>108868203
That's where you're wrong.

>>108868184
been using it since nvjewdia fuck 10 series driver (too dumb for old driver/weird bug were my gpu didn't get recognized)
its fucking bloat, to much useless shit oot, but stable af and still no suprise update that brick everything like manjaro
tl;dr good for brainlett, bad for minimalist cunts
>>
>>108870251
it's just an arch installer and it happens to be the best one I have personally tried
that's literally it
>>
>>108868290
Yeah, using an MSI laptop isn't ideal but not impossible.
>>
>>108870251
It's arch but even a newbie can go from installer usb to playing vidya in 10 minutes, and it has the benefit of timing by landing right as linux gaming is starting to take off.
>>
>>108870296
>just an arch installer
with custom packages and repos for gayming and support for older nvidia card (nouveau is trash for gaming)
>>
>>108870251
Yes. From what I understand it has some optimizations in the kernel specific for gaming, but it only amounts to a ~5% performance boost. I like to think of it as the new "endeavorOS"
>>
>>108868184
CachyOS-tan... sex...
>>
>>108870971
It does a lot more than. EndeavourOS.. For better or for worse. EndeavourOS by comparison is basically GUI based Archinstall.
>>
CachyOS both looks and sounds really cool but it's basically just regular Arch in its core, which implies broken packages and dependencies once every 2-3 days. I think I'll install Tumbleweed instead and cope with the 1% gap gaming performance.
>>
>>108870277
Nice job retard, you just fucked yourself as well.
>>
>>108868184
I dont like that it spams updates every day, and every update needs multiple confirms (press y/n etc)
>>
>>108871819
Arch is not the one with codecs stuck in a repository that goes out of sync all the time so you won't have a problem with that
>>
I use fedora, is there a reason to even switch to this?
>>
>>108872009
sudo paru -Syu --noconfirm
>>
>>108872255
>codecs stuck in a repository that goes out of sync all the time
Yeah, not being able to read to follow the official guides to install things correctly must suck...
>>
>>108868184
Nice tranny wallpaper lol
>>
>>108872009
It's the nature of rolling release distros

I switched to CachyOS from Windows 11 this week.
Linux experience: 1 year
the good
-the steam games do run
-it's faster (file explorer loads immediately)
-nearly every software I used on Windows 11 is on CachyOS or has an alternative
the bad
-dragged into using Arch Linux
-lots of copy pasting ai chat tweaks and fixes for software that only has .deb or .rpm (like Mullvad)
-KDE plasma still has weird ui issues (windows don't open on startup in the same place, missing file thumbnails)
>>
>>108872791
>like Mullvad
is it not in the application store (Discover, Bazaar) or package manager repo?
>windows don't open on startup in the same place
does Plasma still struggle with Waylandshit lacking features?
>>
>>108872930
>>like Mullvad
>is it not in the application store (Discover, Bazaar) or package manager repo?
doubt it
>does Plasma still struggle with Waylandshit lacking features?
yes
>>

>woMEN
Checkmate faglord.
>>
>includes haruna (mpv based, integrated with kde)
>still go and manually download VLC
you have much to learn

>>108872791
>dragged into using arch
the bad?
>no mullvad
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mullvad-vpn-bin
huh, you can extract .deb files too
>windows don't open on startup in the same place
wayland issue, not plasma, zones protocol was merged less than 4 months ago
>>
>>108873207
>aur mullvad
https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/mullvad-vpn/
it's an upstreamed official pkg now anon
>>
>>108873207
>>108873215
mullvad hasn't added arch linux to the page yet
https://mullvad.net/en/download/vpn/linux
and 5-15-2026, that official pkg is new?
>>
>>108873314
it is pretty new, aur package has been around for a while
aur is prebuilt binary from the official source packaged for arch, the official pkg is built from source and a bit slower at updating, but also supports arm64
>>
>>108873314
>>108872791
>like Mullvad
I also had problems with Mega Desktop also. their offical software keeps crashing on startup, probably from Wayland

CachyOS is so popular, maybe more software downloads will have a CachyOS/Arch section
>>
>vlc user

Pic one and only one.
>>
>update
>'manual intervention required for *package*'
>do nothing
>nothing negative happens.

Is this the Arch experience?
>>
>>108873417
are you actively using that package? worth a read, otherwise don't even bother
>>
>>108873425
It was for Kea.
>>
>>108873417
it's dumb but there to prevent someone hijacking the package obviously
