This question has been long solved. The top 10% of households in income already do 50% of the spending. This % will only keep growing. Selling to the masses is becoming obsolete and will simply become increasing obsolete. Your consooming isn't necessary for wealth to increasingly flow upwards.
If your income potential gets slashed, you won't be able to buy a nice car or a nice watch, but you weren't the target audience for that anyway. You will still pool together multiple backbreaking low-pay jobs to pay for the bare necessities like third worlders have always done.

>Most work doesn't require talent or effort, so why train humans to do it?
The question stumped humanity for ages. The solution was AI.
>But once AI replaces most workers, who will consoom?
The answer is NEETs. The implementation is called UBI.
>But why would the top 10% of households who do 50% of the spending subsidize that?
Because the economy can't survive without the other 50%.
>What stops the 10% from simply eliminating everyone else?
One picture of a guillotine, optionally followed by the names of their children.
>But what about culture? Why would anyone still create things to consoom when AI exists?
Anyone with the talent and motivation to create will simply redirect their efforts to avenues where AI can't compete, like interpretative dance.
>What if I don't like interpretative dance?
Good news! Science has found a cure for your disability!

The UBI-reliant underclass is purely funded by the upperclass. It's like if I give someone 10 dollars and they give me back 5 and someone else 5. It doesn't generate wealth.

>It doesn't generate wealth.
It doesn't need to. That's AI's job now.

that doesn't make any sense

You can't violently resist in a total surveillance state with autonomous killing machines. Your brain would be turned to paste by a drone instantly.

@grok explain this

Glad to help.
If 10% of households do 50% of the spending, the other 90% are responsible for the second half. Once most jobs are automated, most households will lose their source of income.
Businesses can only make a profit if someone buys what they're selling, which is impossible without a source of income. Once half of all consumption disappears, many businesses will go bankrupt, which will disrupt the production of essential goods and services like bread, toilet paper and Starlink. The resulting social unrest could put the remaining 10% of households at risk of losing material assets such as life, limb and children.
The solution is to use the increase in wealth I generated to subsidize consumption in order to stabilize the economy.
Would you like me to generate the guillotine picture to illustrate the alternative? (Pending lawsuits prohibit me from including children for now, but Elon says he's working on that.)

The 10% can do all the spending. Why would they delegate it to someone else so they can get shit for themselves? (((The economy))) collapsing doesn't mean shit to the top, only the poor starve. Apparently they're worthless neets so who cares anyway. The economy shrinking is not bad if the population is shrinking, especially if the shrinking part is the jobless one.

Retards on 4chan and some other bootlicking places on the internet in general literally actually think that poor people are the biggest spenders and that rich people are rich because they are super thrifty and miserly and drive 40 year old beat up cars and old clothes and don't buy avocado toast
And that poor people are all buying 30 thousnad dollar Gucci bags and leasing brand new cars.
The idea the majority of conspicuous consumer spending is done by the rich will never get through to them.

As a very general rule, rich people are rich because they make obscene amount of money. Poor people are poor because they don't make much money. Spending habits have jack shit to do with it except in extreme fringe cases. Rich people have worse spending habits than poor and most wouldn't survive a year not having the ability to spend the amount they spend. They'd have a heart attack and die when they saw that their also expensive food bill was 10-20% of their income instead of .01%

Poor people are poor because they're ugly and stupid

Yes, we need a wealth tax. This is not /g/ though.
In absolute amounts rich spend more, but they relatively spend less than the poor. Where poor means exactly: less wealth. The poor are affected more by inflation and falling salaries. The rich don't care and if you don't tax wealth they will eventually suck up all wealth and spend only a little of it, which eventually goes back to them anyway.
AI might be the final nail the coffin but the problem is there in any case.

How is that different from now? I guess you have slightly more agency now, given that they still need cogs in the machine. But yeah, they have all the money and the power already.

Ai can't replace any work that matter.

they're going to enslave all of you. i mean in this in literal terms. they are literally going to bring back slaving and impose a system of total slavery that is so perfect and so competent at enslaving you that it will be a marvel of technological achievement studied and watched with shock and awe. the humiliation that is coming to consume your psyche is incomprehensible.
