I got the layoff email. Sat there for a bit. Didn’t tell anyone. For some reason, I opened LinkedIn. That was my mistake. A VP had already posted. Sad tone. “Had to say goodbye to amazing people.” Heart emoji. Comments full of other execs saying how hard this must be for them. Meanwhile I’m sitting there thinking about my visa and how long my insurance lasts. What fucked me up wasn’t the layoff. Basically layoffs happen, leadership goes quiet internally, then they show up on LinkedIn to look human. they collect likes and condolences...I can't believe this is what leadership looks like these day...it's disgusting... Don't open Linkedin if you've been laid off it will just make you more pissed.

So my workplace has a nice gym with a steam room, sauna and hot tub. This is an F500 company, mind you.I finished my work, changed my clothes, took a shower and got in the hot tub, most people don't use these ameneties.About 3 minutes in, two girls in their late 20s approached the hot tub (note this is a 34 floor building with over a thousand employees, so I obviously don't know everyone), they were chatting and preparing to get in, when I saw them looking at me in a weird way. Then, they got into the hot tub but proceeded to look at me in a judging, even disgusted way.I’m a fairly decent looking, well groomed guy so I didn’t really understand what was happening, so I checked myself but found nothing. Finally, about 2 minutes later one of them says “Are you getting out or not?” in a very pointed tone. I was like “well I just got in, so not really” and she said “We feel uncomfortable with a man here, you should really get out and come back later when we’re finished. A random man shouldn’t be sharing a hot tub with girls he doesn’t know” and I was like “well, I got here first and I’m minding my own business after a heavy day of work. If you’re uncomfortable you can go to the sauna and come back when I’m done”. She got angry and started raising her voice saying “Men nowadays don’t know how to be a gentleman, we literally just asked you to come back when we’re done, why are you being a dick about it?” To say I was shocked is an understatement. But I was too tired to deal with it, so I got out, went to the steam room, waited for them to leave and then came back to finish my hot tub session. But this has left a very unpleasant feeling.I feel like I did the right thing, last thing I want are them reporting me to HR for some bullshit and I end up losing my cushy L8 role.
