Is that actually metal though? That would be heavy as frick.
>>108972049As if current GPU's aren't so heavy you need supports to not wreck your PCIe slot.
>>108972049its like how motherboards market "STEEL ARMOR" pcie slots but its barely stronger than the plastic ones.
>the 1080Ti was so great even 2026 Jensen treats it with utmost respectThat's how you know it is a timeless piece.
>Fell for the 1080ti when the 2080ti was just around the corner
>>108972152The 2080Ti is basically a 1080Ti with supported drivers at this point, it's Tensor cores are generally too weak for all the modern fun things and it's raster performance is comparable.Personally, I ran off of a 1060 until I got a used 3090 in early 2025, alongside 64GB of RAM as DDR4 was piss cheap so why not.Boy was that a good call. All I'd be upgrading now is the 12400 to a 12900K, and that's been unaffected by the crisis.
Something tells me we aren't going to see affordable storage ever again
>>108972204A gold rush doesn't last forever anon. I mean, plenty of interests want you to stay doompilled like this, be it slop peddlers like Steve Burke or CXMT, but if you look at it realistically, this shortage isn't affecting just home consumers that have a need to buy newest and greatest every year. It affects every single industry that's not datacenters. All those electric cars that every major manufacturer is betting on? Or hell, the modern ICE ones? Those need those chips as well, and you can fuck over every other industry for so long before the cascade effect comes back to bite you in the ass. But we're talking waiting on quarterly earning meetings when all the investors decide whether to invest, or pull out of their investments.Either this year or Q1 2027 I'm expecting the dam to break. The AI investors are not the only players in the game, and it's only a matter of time when the rest of the global market says "enough" to this idiocy.

>>108972608yes and nonvmes are supposed to have a feature called aspm/apst which brings power draw down instead of running them at max but not all drives have this working properly and this can lead to higher power draw or your drive disappearing until your disable it.
>>108972771>>108972608I have had zero issue with my gen 5 NVMe's.They are at like 30C or 40C all the time. And they rated to run at 75C safely.
>>108972771are they going to stop making gen 3 ssds? I have some old machines and laptops I'd rather have gen 3 and low temps than gen 4 or 5 on them, hope they don't get discontinued.
>>108972907>going toanon
>>108972907They stopped making new gen 3 SSDs sometime ago but you can probably find budget Western Digitals out there although overpriced may as well get gen 4 or 5.
>>108972907I have one of those fancy external m2 readers. I tried it with a Samsung 990 pro and 9100 pro. The 990 pro would be at 48 to 50 °C while reading and writing files and the 9100 pro at max 40 °C due to capped transfer rate from USB. Take it with a grain of salt but I'd assume you'd get similar results when you install the ssd in a PCIe 3 slot as they're then limited in max read and write speed.

>>108973780A glass side panel and a metal one have the same airflow. You just need airflow flowing in the front and out the back, everything else is gay.

Almost done with my build, I just need an NVME SSD. Suggestions? I'm in the US and this is mainly for flight sim games on Windows and Linux. I'd like to find a 1Tb boot drive for around $200, I'll supplement with old school SATA drives if I need more storage until prices come down. I'm not too familiar with all the cache technologies that NVMEs use, but I've seen that a lot of them are built to move like, 300gb files, and that's very rare for me. I think my biggest data moves will be installing large games, occasionally editing small videos, and maybe moving some ISOs around. I'm not sure how much performance I'll need out of a boot drive for this use case but I do know that loading up a flight sim can take a while.

Have (you) ever used Intel Optane? What was it like?
>>108974093They had really low queue depth speeds for SSDs. In other words they made really good boot drives. Basically on par with today's NVME drives but with no space and super expensive.
>>108974013> Would these two do me well for an upgrade?Only if you have CPU heavy workloads. That 16-core is not good for gaming. The 5800X3D would be much better for this. For a 16-core I would recommend a more potent AIO but for the 5800X3D the H100i would still be ok I guess.
>>108974093the conversation is largely redundant as Intel-aviv don't sell those drives to consoomers anymore. It was in theory a good selling point for intel-aviv builds over AMD if you wanted to be a power gamer and have a lightning-fast startup i guess.

>>108975762might as well move to 48v once and for all if they're gonna retcon atx psusthat will instantly make the 12v-2x6 safe when its only pulling 2.5A per pin
>>108973328I hate to say it, but I learned this from interior decorating (yeah I know its gay, but I'm not) but lighting makes all the difference from Movies, to rooms, to even video games, how you light (or don't light) is around 50% of making something look aesthetic.I'm actually a fan of the fish cases, not so much the lights to be honest, but I do like how cases are moving away from cheap plastic and aluminum to more premium materials like full 3 out of 4 walls glass.
>>108975766No idea, but here's the cooler master shark X
>>108975766I 2nd this, I'm wondering about open air cases, dual pc cases, and other less conventional cases as well. Are there artisan or completely custom cases?
>>108975789>cooler master shark XThat's pretty fucking cool. I bet the thermals in it are awful, though.
>>108975789That's actually pretty cool but the rbg at the base is lame, it should be a soft, dull white light to make it look menacing and allow the rgp in the eyes and around the "fin pit" to stand out more while also casting a menacing look when the lights are off.
>>108975801just use openrgb to set it to whatever you want
>>108975809openrgb is great but it has its handful of problems and for some reason I get the feeling this case might be one of them.
>>108975766I only know of elmore labs, they constantly make artistic builds to show off in conventions.
>>108975789There's no way they actually want 5.5k for this thing.
>>108975762Intel just showed off the new ATX standard for motherboards and it should be 12v like the melting connector. I expect we'll see it with am6/ whatever the fuck Intel name's their socket.
>>108975819coolermaster seems to be generally very well supported on openrgb
>>108973578>>108973459It takes 12 months to stick a fan in a box
>>108975796it should be for water cooling and right below the shark is a giant water reservoir with real fish swimming around. idk I'm high as fuck.
>>108975821>2slots gpu>single fan aio
>>108973476Hell yeah that's sick. 12 year old me would've battlefield vietnam'd so hard with that.My friend and I used to turn up to the town v. town lan parties wearing combat fatigues with the sleeves torn off, red bandanas around our heads and absolutely rape those fags from the next town overgood times
>>108973476>>108973481If these cases are made of plastic and aluminum I'm not buying them, give me copper, stainless steel, or brass cases.
Can the 5080 really handle 4k games that much better than a 5070Ti?On average the specs seem like 9% better. If not less.
>>108975861It's literally the same core
>>108975846The shark looks so cool it defies physics and just cools the gpus naturally, dummy.
Would you use this PC?
>>108975881I think carving a pc case from marble or even from 1 piece of stone is the way to go, if you add mortar in it your going to destroy it as the morter creates sand-like grit as it reacts to the heat and air and completely fuck your system.Obviously its made of plastic and it looks like shit so... No...
>>108975890It's ai generated
>>108975893I know anon... I'm not fucking 50.
>>108975893No way. What gave it away? The random squiggles written all over the parts?
>>108975766Apparently a company called inWin makes a bunch of really artsy cases
>>108975893>answers the question posted>"erm this is actually AI"Is this the new "I'm actually pretending to be retarded"?
>>108975896If you knew, you wouldn't have said it's made of plastic.
>>108975906God forbid I stay on topic and entertain your question!
>>108975904I mean, why did the guy say "Obviously its made of plastic" to an AI photo?
>>108975911Not everyone who replies to you is the same person. Also, I don't the AI to make it out of rocks. So it's obviously not plastic. Checkmate.
>>108975914Because if that PC case was made IRL it would be plastic
>>108975914The image is right there anon, you don't think the AI was mimicking faux rocks you see all the time in landscaping? Real rocks don't really look like that.
sharty bots going on overdrive
>>108975917We're assuming that if the case weren't ai generated, then it would be made of the material depicted, not just plastic bullshit. There's no point in entertaining the idea of a tacky plastic design.
>>108975917People have made actual rock PC cases before.
>>108975927Yes, people, but the original post was implying this would be a mass produced product you could buy.
>>108975940You sure do a lot of baseless assuming.
>>108975927That's kinda cool desu, though I don't know how I feel about just "sliding" it in there, I'd at least try to figure out how to mount it into the rock.
>>108975944It's how I pass the time
Hey, I have 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 2TB of Samsung 990 that I panic-bought before prices started going through the roof, but I have no free motherboard or CPU to pair with them. What should you do?
>>108975958Buy one of those bundles that come with the CPU and motherboard.
>>108975958Mail them to my PO box.
>>108975958buy a cpu/mobo combo, save some money, point and laugh at people.
Does putting your PC on a wire rack help with thermals at all?
>>108975745>>108975693>Fractal MoodThese vertical case look cool, but I would assume they perform horrible thermal wise?
>>108975979>>108975967thx>>108975968maybe later
>>108976012It's ok. Not every computer has to push maximum performance, and these are pretty nice aesthetically. I actually have >>108975739 this one in my meme machine, and it's nice.
>>108975982no but put it under your room vent
how come AMD hasn't announched FSR 4.1 support for Geforce 10 series yet???
>>108976121Because AMD hates gamers and is a shitty company this is why you should've bought Nvidia, they support all their cards.
>>108976121Pascal doesn't support Int8
>>108976151nice excuse AMD shill
>>108976180its not AMDs fault that Nvidia discontinued driver support for Pascal or that you're still using a discontinued version of Windows.
>>108976135>they support all their cardsvibe-sport
>>108976208DLSS4.5 is on all their cards chud, unlike AMD who continues to ignore their 60 series and already said that the 90 series would not receive further support.

Only holy science for my eyes.I can't believe there would be apostates promoting fake pixels.

why would anyone feel the need to bring up amd gpus ittits a pc building general, and amd has no relevant products in the categorythey make zero profits from desktop gpu line for like 8 years now
>>108976265Why would you feel the need to tell everyone how brown you are?

deciding between a 9070xt vs a 5070 i know the performance and raw power is on amd's side but ive always used nvidia is there any reason to not get a AMD gpu? im going to be playing 1080p
>>108976402Only if you need full bandwidth dp2.1 80gbps for 1080p 500hz monitors since amd only supports dp2.1 54gbpsOtherwise the 9070xt is the superior GPU

I wonder how people like the guy above come here to ask about amd gpusdo they google some youtube video about 9070 vx 5070, the review only mentions fps number in a game and nothing else, then they go "wow amd is good value" I've seen reviews that completely ignore the nvidia value add featureset, so that seems misleading.

Do you trust using new components for building or is even the hardware spyware these days. Havent built a system since 2014 and it just works, but I am getting the itch to build again. Just dont know if I should buy new components or just start picking up second hand pieces to build my next rig.
>>108975380Tryptophobia mobo cover
>>108976883if you're comfortable with your ancient hardware you could always find a new case that you like and mount your hardware in it
>>108975411I looked into those some time ago as well and on AM5 they only seem to improve thermals very slightly but make it easier to apply thermal paste. However some people mentioned they void any sort of warranty as you have to remove the original latch from the motherboard
