FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.

>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

How does tpm+pin work? If I put my drive into another computer windows will get unactivated no doubt, but what about encryption? Can I access disks?
>>
>>108975701
Bit tricky to explain, but one of the issues I ran into was not being able to use chkdsk to fix it not letting me shrink the drive. And it kept running that command each start-up until I manually excluded the drive from scanning each startup. And I have permission issues when using linux to auto mount it, where I have to keep using ntfsfix -d each time I install a new linux distro, and only read permissions with some apps whenever I use any arch based one.

I installed a fresh w11 and created a new microsoft account in the process (of course a random throwaway adress). Is there any way to un-fuck that and only have a local windows account?
>>
Am I the only person who prefers using Massgrave's TSForge activation over HWID? I feel like reverse engineering the activation system to permanently activate your OS offline is more elegant of a solution than planting a fake license on MS' servers.
>>
>>108976435
You can turn an MS account into a local account within the account settings

>>108976917
It works great, but the activation has an easier chance of disappearing when a feature update is installed for example. Just minor annoyances you don't need to deal with when you use HWID, but it's still a clean activation, especially if you want to activate offline.

>permanently activate your OS offline
You need internet access for the TSforge activation process too and in both cases you don't need internet access anymore once activated
>>
>>108977056
Ah, that's a new thing then. Guess it needs to fetch activation data, but I wonder if you could fetch it on a different machine, move it over and then still activate fully offline.
>>
>>108977056
Actually there's a module of TSforge called KMS4k which allows it to activate the system if no internet is found. ZeroCID is the one that use to work offline completely but a "bug" that was added to a newer version of Windows broke that functionality and it became an online activation.
>>
>>108977056

Dumb question.. if I am thinking of reformatting my PC, what IoT LTSC should I consider installing for gaming? Windows 10 or Windows 11? Thanks in advance.
>>

For 10 when late 2028 passes, move over to LTSC 2027.

Will 2024 eventually implement the same features and build of 2027 when it rolls around? Or will that require another format?

Hello, I am trying to install windows 7 in a virtual machine using qemu, where do I get win7 isos with the latest updates and stuff so i don't have to spend a lot of time updating inside my VM? Also any general tips on using windows 7 now? it's been so long since I used it and last time i tried creating a win7 VM I got errored out the ass by missing DLLs and mismatching .NET versions when i tried to run apps in it

I'm on Linux currently but one of my pcie hardwares is unusable here. Is it possible to do something like boot windows 10 from USB, with a specific program and drivers pre installed?
>>
>>108981063
sure, it's not that different from dual booting except you're doing it with removable media
>>
>>108981115
How would it be done? Just have the installers on the usb?
>>
>>108981126
Uhhh, I think you would need 2 USB sticks, one with the windows installer iso flashed to it, and the second one is the one you intend to install windows on, during the partitioning step in windows installer, select the second USB stick and install windows on it, i think that's how i would do it, but i don't know, it's much easier to have linux on a USB rather than windows.
>>
I have an incredibly specific question, but I would hugely appreciate anyone who answers. On Windows 11, you know the picrelated multi-desktop management icon? I have an Nvidia graphics card (RTX 3060 Ti in case it matters). When I hover over that icon, and then move the mouse away, the following things happen:
1. The screen briefly flickers black
2. The transparency effects of the taskbar go away
Does this happen to anyone else?
>>
>>108982134
I forgot to mention, you also have to be looking at the desktop to see the screen flicker black. So it would be more accurate to say the desktop itself flickers black. Also, this doesn't happen on integrated Intel graphics, only my Nvidia card. Trying to figure out if the piece of shit is subtly dying.
>>
>>108982149
Could be the drivers, I once had heavy artifacting on a 1060 that made me think it was dying. It was the drivers, the card is perfectly fine to this day.
>>
>>108982134
>>108982149
type winver in start menu and what number it says besides 11? there were nvidia graphics bugs not too long ago with older numbers.
>>
>>108982157
>>108982160
I should have mentioned to start with, this is a completely fresh install. Reinstalled the whole OS after doing a fresh install of the driver did nothing. Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8457)
>>
>>108982198
try this registry and reboot. if it still happens your gpu is dying.
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157/~/after-updating-to-nvidia-game-ready-driver-461.09-or-newer%2C-some-desktop-apps
>>
>>108982218
I'll give that a try if no one else reproduces the issue. Would still appreciate if anyone else could give it a try
>>
>>108982246
you already did fresh install of drivers & windows. the only thing left could be hardware.
>>
>>108982258
The card could well be fucked, but it could still just be a completely normal quirk of Windows + certain Nvidia cards. Like this anon >>108982218 pointed out. Some kind of hardware acceleration or some shit that Windows attempts to do when an Nvidia card offers a certain technology. But before I go messing with the registry on this fresh install, I'll wait a while and see if any other anons try to reproduce the issue.

Initiative within MS lead by an old guard engineer that's being run to make 11 not shit anymore, basically. Native WinUI3 apps, more optimization on the backend to make it feel faster/responsive, removing force Copilot integration from stock UWP apps etc. It being launched from around a month ago to late 2027.
>>
>>108975206
b
>>
>>108983028
566.36 is an ancient driver. I know new Nvidia drivers suck but WDDM mismatch is even worse.
>>
>>108984737
I didn't have any problems with 596.49 on 10 LTSC and 11 LTSC with a 3090, and I moved on from 566.36 due to pirated Topaz software and Resolve demanding newer CUDA. It's about time to let go of the stigma and move on. Much like Win11, the modern Nvidia drivers are not as bad as people make them out to be.
>>
>>108984833
If you use latest IHV driver you have to pair with latest Windows Update because of DX12 Agility and the DWM/WDDM is DX12 since 10.
>>
You know how when you lock Windows and then go to log back in it shows a splash screen and you have to press a button to bring up the password box? Where's the setting to disable that in W10?

It's a policy called "Do not display the lock screen" that you enable. Directly goes to the login box instead of needing to click the lock screen.

i have win 10 Iot i removed edge before instalation but now i see that windows downloaded it and installed it in background
i managed to remove it but how do i prevent it from installing again?
>>
>>108992116
If it's the WebView that gets installed, then don't bother as the Edge Update service will still keep it up-to-date
>you may fiddle with uninstalling that component too along with removing the Edge Update service and tasks
>don't be surprise windows' autohealing mechanisms like SFC will restore it anyways
But if you parse the force-uninstall switch to the Edge installer like this script does, you should take care of the browser component at least
https://gist.github.com/ave9858/c3451d9f452389ac7607c99d45edecc6

Then you may pair with MSEdgeRedirect for the stubborn system components that will still try to invoke Edge with the URL handler
>EEA locale Windows installations are apparently capable of uninstalling Edge easily, though I still had a "Repair Edge" regardless on 10 22H2, so YMMV
>If the browser still gets restored, then there used to be a fork of AveYo's script on GH that you may try, that and ShadowWhisperer's utility

Im hoping to get some help migrating a current installation of windows 10 on an AM4 older computer onto a newly built am5 rig.

I built a pc for a friend of my mums for work, the new computer is ready and now i need to migrate the windows to the new rig; IT HAS TO BE MIGRATED AS IS. Installations passwords etc since she uses it to work and under no circumstance wants to start on a new fresh windows install (i will try to broach that on a few weeks once we have crossed the current bridge).
So what are my options? my first idea was installing an external hd or an ssd and use Macrium reflect to create a clone of the w10 install and then put that disk on the new rig and clone it onto the new pc's disk.

I assume there will be a bunch of hurdles on this and before i go to chatgpt with the issue i was wondering if you guys could tell me if im approaching it the wrong way.

Thanks

Good day esteemed Wizards. I never asked for this fucking driver and I don't want to restart for this nonsense. How do I turn that shit off?
>>

Stop the Windows Update services in an admin command line
>net stop wuauserv
>net stop bits
Then run this command to delete the temp update files folder (it'll come back when you re-enable the services)
>rd /s /q %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Then restart the services
>net start wuauserv
>net start bits
That update will now be gone from the pending list. Then you can just disable Windows Update from downloading drivers via a group policy.

You know what I like about Win11's UI?
-The new Settings app with WinUI3 design is genuinely nicer, feels like something designed for desktops rather than the half-assed port of the Ballmer era "tablets are the future" design.
-Mica is genuinely pleasant to look at, more pleasant than 10's Acrylic.

Obviously, the main criticism points remain the same.
-The new context menu is stupid. Microsoft wanted to solve the issue of it being cluttered, so they've thrown out the parsing of the classic context menu hooks and registry entries, so now you either have to do another click to get to where you want to be or apply a registry tweak to skip the new context menu altogether.
-The new start menu is a regression to 10's, but after many years they've finally learned their lesson and you can configure it to display a list of installed programs on the first opening.
-The new taskbar. It being WinUI3 wouldn't be as bad if not for the fact that they've thrown out just about every bit of functionality it had ever since it was introduced in Win95 when it was so good even today every Linux DE apes that concept, only to now half-assedly start adding back it's functionality. Even then, unless they re-implement DeskBands within that fancy new WinUI3 taskbar it won't ever be the same.

I upgraded my PC a few weeks back and I'm having a weirdly specific issue I don't know how to fix. Everything but the SSD and GPU was changed out. Prior to doing so when I used gyro with my DualSense in Genshin Impact it worked 100% of the time without any issues at all. After swapping to the new parts (But using the exact same install on my SSD) I now have an intermittent issue where the gyro will just cause me to jerk left or right even if I am completely still when it's activated.

I've tried different ports (USB-A and USB-C), I've tried calibrating the gyro via Steam and it pretty much 0's it, I've run dism, I've run sfc, I've rebooted, and I've cold booted and nothing has fixed it. dism found no issues and just messed up my file associations so that was a fun five minutes to fix, sfc never found an issue at all, reboots and cold booting has done nothing,

My only thought is to maybe Hail Mary the preview build update and see if that fixes it but can anyone think why it only happens in Genshin Impact and only on this new machine even though there was no major update to the game in this time period and functionally my system has not changed in any serious way? Could it possibly be interference from the case going through the USB ports which then causes noise that disturbs it?
>>
>>109007339
Changing the motherboard around would 100% do some kind of weird shit somewhere. Probably the old install trying to contact old ghostly chipset drivers and such that don't exist anymore, with those jerking motions sounding like bursts of raw input data coming from somewhere randomly.

I'm afraid you can't. Much of the UI now has a hard requirement on the DWM, and go as spastic as a 4ni/g/ger who heard the word "Macintosh" if you've terminated it.
This is why, since Windows 8, the recommendation has been to find a Classic look-alike theme. But just like Troonix DE theming, none of them are particularly convincing.
>>
>>109009132
There is no 26H2 yet - at least not one that isn't a Insider build.
You're likely thinking of 26H1 (build 28000), which is indeed a released product - but it offers precisely zero benefits on AMD64. It's best to think of it as an ARM64-only release.
As such, I recommend 24H2. 25H2 is just an EP for 24H2, and 26H2 (when it gets released) is too from what I've heard.

I'm a drooling retard that is currently on extended security updates for 10 and despite gaming on PC for decades I don't have any real understanding of them, I have no idea what BIOS actually is or how to access it for example, and I generally don't touch anything because I'm afraid of breaking shit. Should I just bite the bullet and let 11 install when coverage ends in October? I really don't want to spend hours fucking around with manually installing an operating system or registering it, I always just buy prebuilts so I never have to mess with this shit.
>>
>>109011499
you have to first ask yourself why you're asking us, like, do you have a reason to not install 11 once your extended support ends?

You could always repair upgrade to basically "re-install" your system, naturally keeping your files/programs. Refreshing the install like that could make it better for the new mobo.

yes, that's exactly what i mean. i mash F11, after the bios screen finishes it's thing the boot menu flashes for a split second and disappears
>>
>>109021566
From what I can tell your mobo has a version of UEFI that's really early and doesn't play nice with Rufus's UEFI setup.
Also as it seems that running MBR worked totally fine for you that you can just open up a terminal with shift+f10 within the setup and use diskpart to clean the disk of all its partition data, which then if you chose to install it it won't complain the disk is GPT and instead will install IoT LTSC 2021 in an MBR format cleanly.
>>
>>109021579
thank's. the problem with mbr is that i'd rather not wipe the whole disk, since it's the only one i have right now and there's some important data on the second partition
>>
>>109021598
Well then you should back up everything that you need to before re-installing. Or you could just repair upgrade your current system with an ISO setup.exe to make your system feel cleaner/newer if that's an issue for you.

>>
>>109021720
Yeah 11 LTSC is a-okay. The UI is a tad more jank in a few places and a part of it relies on Edge WebView but that's about it, it'll likely get ironed out by 2027 with the K2 initiative.

well, after some time with the system basically crashing every other minute, i managed to get a crash dump analyzed and googled enough to understand that my computer was basically dividing by zero for some reason and it's supposedly not the windows' fault. something to do with microcode, whatever that is
so i updated my bios, since that seemed like the best thing to do at that moment. pretty nerve wracking, because i thought it'll ask me some question like 'are you sure?' or something, instead of immediately starting the operation
and after that windows stopped booting at all, this time with a 'boot device not found' bsod
after wiping the partition and reinstalling for a second time it worked, and it seems to be stable for now, which is surprising since i was mentally preparing myself to install mint
if anyone knows what was all that microcode malarkey about and why was it dividing by 0 i'd appreciate the explanation

Well guess what, I fucking did it, not only that but I manage to passthrough my GPU to it, this took like 10 miracles to get it working, however my GPU is not functional, I asked AI and told me it's because of the missing subsystem ID because my GPU doesn't have VBIOS (not sure what that means honestly).
This drove me nuts, I made another VM, this time a Linux VM (Debian 13 specifically) and tried passing my GPU to it for debugging purposes to see if my system is capable of GPU passthrough, and low and behold I encountered a similar issue, the nvidia driver installed, and the kernel reports that the nvidia driver is in use by the PCI device BUT it's also missing the subsystem and I can't use the GPU.

I have been losing my sanity trying to get this working for the past few days so tell it to me straight am I not capable of GPU passthrough? if so then which hypervisor has the best guest drivers for windows 7 for graphics acceleration?

I know LTSC exists, but it’s pathetic that Microsoft is expected to break every fucking update cycle, small bugs that get quickly patched is fine, but force updating people to a new version that has them BSOD whenever they run software is just incompetence.
That and windows file system organization is awful for trying to uninstall or manage software, and half of the time you’re relying on a uninstall script that might break if file paths shift around or change.

No you don't, I checked dmesg output in my linux VM and found the problem, it is VBIOS related (see picrel, it's from the guest VM), at this point I'm done with qemu, I could probably make it work if I could dump my vbios, and I tried doing that with no luck, I'm not even sure if my GPU has a vbios.
>you have to disable the qxl vido driver and output directly to a monitor
I cannot do this because I'm passing a laptop dGPU with no HDMI or VGA port, the HDMI port on my laptop is connected to the integrated Intel GPU.

yeah, that's common, a workaround is to download your GPU's vbios and inject it via libvirt, and it almost never works

Just did it yesterday (Lost power due to tornadoes and storms going through my state so I couldn't comment earlier). Didn't fix it at all. I unplugged a bunch of stuff I thought might be causing any sort of interference which didn't do anything, I've tried multiple USB slots and cables, and I've tired both a DS4 and DualSense. I'm currently repairing Genshin to see if that will fix anything. Next choice will be a full reinstall of the game because for all I know that specifically corrupted or something.

Hard power outages like that could do all sorts of weird shit to a motherboard. Have you tried doing a hard power reset? IE turning off the power supply and removing the plug, then holding down the power button for about a minute? It drains all the residual power from the capacitors which might fix any hardware issues you may have.
>>
>>109034697
This was happening before any power outage, it's been like three weeks now. That didn't do anything to affect this.

Dumb retard question here, do I need the windows iso from massgrave to run the MAS or will it work with an ISO from Microsoft?

Just wanted to get pre-update view instead of customizing it.
Got weirded out by this in Windhawk:
>Malicious mods can damage your computer or violate your privacy. Install mods only from authors whom you trust.
but mod is made by program dev himself, so if he goes trans then whole program will be compromised either way.
>>109037554
Oh, they added it in Essential Tweaks? Will check it out.
>>
>>109037668
Windhawk is basically a framework for compiling C/C++ code into DLL files and injecting it into processes to modify their behavior. Malware behaves much the same way, but so do ASI mods for fixing old games for example. In case of Windhawk, it is designed to be as open as possible, so you can review the code before installing a mod, and by installing a mod, you are only pulling the source code, compiling it into a DLL and only then does it get injected into processes.
>>
>>109037807
And because it loads the mods into RAM Windows doesn't get pissy about the modding, unlike with some other ways of modifying it.
>>
>>109037817
While Windows won't get pissy for modifying system files, other processes, especially anti-cheats, will definitely fuss about arbitrary code injections happening in your system. As for how overzealous a given anti-cheat is about these depends of course.
>>
>>109037824
Oh yeah that's definitely something to think about. Like if you play LoL or something and have Vanguard on your system it's gonna get real mad because it thinks any kind of injection is a cheat being loaded.

I'm going to update Windows 11 for the first time since June 2024 today, I'm hoping whatever issue I had with the updates from back them is already fixed by now.
If I regret it, is it going to be possible to uninstall/revert the cumulative updates or is Windows gonna hit me with the "sorry, we can't uninstall this update ;)" BS?

For example, it removes telemetry by changing a bunch of registry keys, but I can remove telemetry by just changing 1 group policy line.

i have a ready to install, newer setup with W10 IoT LTSC 21H2 plus debloating stuff and whatnot that i'm currently using and i'm planning to install it on the said machine but i'm wondering if anything changed since 2024 when i first followed the guide. the rentry for LTSC looks kinda same but not really
any new one-click scripts that take care of the registry/services/scheduler or something similar that i should be aware of?

Winutil worked for exactly one reboot, then Start Menu became huge again. I thought Windows was the choice of people that do not want to fuck with their system 24/7 yet here we are, guess I have to give up my system to Windhawk. It's all so tiresome.

>>109044920

I mean, you're injecting code into RAM to mod your system. You gotta actually be careful (at least with mods with much less users, the most used ones, like said start menu styler, would be more then safe.

Much as I'd like to dunk on Microsoft for being utter dogshit, which it is, in my experience BSODs are almost never a "Windows" problem but most frequently a bad hardware problem or bad 3rd party driver problem (I experienced this one with Focusrite relatively recently, absolutely terrible software).
>>
>>109047235
People misunderstand what BSoD's even are. They associate it with some spite Microsoft has against their customers and that it's 100% Windows' fault since people just absolutely love to be perpetually mad at Microsoft, while in reality a BSoD is just a symptom of a problem, and not the problem itself.

Linux has kernel panics to do the same thing, and like you said, most of the time when shit like this happens it's because the hardware is failing, the OS catches that there's something severely wrong and shuts itself down. Most of the time it's the RAM failing, Linus Torvalds had an anecdote about that on his LTT appearance when he was talking about why ECC RAM is so important to him, it basically keeps the RAM modules in check to make sure you don't end up with BSoD's/kernel panics due to the RAM failing.

The last time I experienced a serious BSoD was because of a faulty Nvidia driver, one rollback and it got fixed. The BSoD was the symptom, the Nvidia driver was the problem.

IIRC disabling the game bar gets rid of it, at least it does in W10 LTSC
Search for game bar settings in your start menu and try disabling it
