Hey guys, long time lurker first time poster, I've noticed recently that my fan control no longer works. I don't believe I changed anything, but whenever I force them to go under 49-53% it jumps up to those percentages again. What am I doing wrong? I remember this working when I first set up this PC. And I did not change any components.
>>109005838Do you have the nvidia app? It might be interfering.
>>109005841I just checked but it's on 30% too.

I saw this setup on reddit and as somebody that have built a few very simple utilitarian rigs... i have a couple questions. The mobo is "upside down" so to speak, which i assume is just a feature of that case allowing you to set it up in either direction, i think that much i gotHOW IS THE 5090 connected? is just cables going from behind to back connectors on the mobo?Im just trying to learn a bit, thank you.
>>109005851You can see the riser cable on the pci connector of the 5090. I guess it's routed behind everything and going back to the pcie mobo slot. The white ribbon cable.
>>109005851it's a lengthy riser cable
>>109005851>HOW IS THE 5090 connected?a very long PCIe riser cable
>>109005849Did that now, went into my bios and changed it from "smart fan control" to "manual" and set it to 30%. Nothing seems to have changed.

>>109005862>>109005873>>109005874Yeah now that i know what to look for i see the cable.Thank you anons
>>109005877Maybe it's me being stupid but I remember fan control working... And how come there's a question mark next to my GPU, isn't that supposed to work regardless of my fans being pwm?

How many years is the 5070 going to be viable for??? I fucking hate AMD and refuse to buy any of their shit cards and also fuck having no cuda cores. The 5070 for $600 is a pretty good offer at my local walmart, however that 12gb is fucking disgusting. I don't really know if I should buy this card

you should have buyderized a blackwell 6000 by now
>>109005913It depends what are you going to do with that GPU.Every GPU right now is a scam, so you just need to pick the least retarded option.Performance wise you are buying 3090 or overclocked 3080 12GB with fake frames on top. So a high end GPU from 2020 but with much lower power draw.RAM capacity is just a joke, I would say it's borderline today and you will have to make sacrifices very soon.
amd should launch a rdna 4.5 refresh with a flagship and keep gddr6 because gddr7 shortages are going to keep delaying rdna5 until 2028

That said 12gb sucks donkey nuts but the 5070 TI is about 270-300$ more expensiveThe 5070 is a good buy @600 if you can't pick amd for whatever reason, but at those price i would still pick a 9070xt for 650.There are no good options
I mean, a 9080 XT with 32 GB gddr6 and just a tiny bit more powerful at $750 msrp would sell a lot, people really want the vram for AI.but idk if it can be done because the 9070 xt already has memory chips on the backside of the pcb

Thoughts about the Gigabyte MO27Q28G? I would buy the ASUS XG27AQWMG like the OP but it doesn't have a VESA mount and it has the stupid angry logo emblazoned on the front in bright red. I like how simple this one looks although it's a tandem WOLED with supposed grey banding issues.

>>109006576I have it. I like it so far but it's my first OLED so I can't really compare color and stuff. The coating is matte but it's really impressive compared to my now secondary IPS, it has basically no glare in comparison. It had some extreme grey branding for the first few hours after unpacking but it eventually went away, dunno how normal that is. Would have returned it if it didn't, it was obvious enough to notice in normal use.The power brick is a bitch to manage on a monitor arm though, there's not enough cable length going to the monitor to keep it below my desk. I had to figure out a way to secure it to the arm itself.
>>109006849I love them, but at this point why not just get a server rack
>>109006993My plan is just a very sane custom loop while still having room for NVMe hotswap and just being generally easy to service. There is also a plan for the secondary side where another mobo would go but no one is ready to comprehend that. Is it absurd at this point in time, with a 5900x, to buy a miniITX B550 motherboard and attempt a small build?I don't see any way in which I can upgrade my CPU without spending a lot of money at this point or in the near future, hell it might be my last build. However the prospect of buying a new motherboard for AM4 kinda sounds silly.
I built a pc for a friend for his office, he was planning to just use the integrated graphics cause his old pc has a radeon hd 7400 2gb (picrel)Is it worth to leave it on? i mean he is only gonna open pdfs and youtube, so i was wondering if the integrated graphics on the 9600x ryzen are just outright better or if using the card is betterAny opinion would be very welcome
>>109007240>Do I just fuck it and pay a grand for the 5070 ti?? I don't wanna touch my machine with upgrades for the next few years at least.I dont know your budget friend, only you can make that choice.I do believe that 12gb ram is gonna be enough cause devs won't have any other option than working through those constraintsThen again over 5 years the 300€ more on the 5070TI come out at like 5€ a month...I guess its gonna be more about you having peace of mind with your purchase
>>109007257Why do you need ITX build in the first place?AM4 motherboards are still plentiful and mostly cheap. But if you go with ITX you will pay premium.
>>109007301to do a smaller build, I have full ATX right now
>>109005919Never going to happen>>109007240I wouldn't bother, 70ti is way too expensive right now if budget is at all a concern, hopefully things are better 5 years from now. As of right now with the 5070 even at native/quality 4k you would almost always just have problems with performance way before the 12gb is limiting.
>>109007306You clearly had enough space for that PC in the past and now you are going to spend I don't know but around $300 to get a smaller box. Minus whatever you do with your old hardware.I don't know what kind of CPU cooler and PSU you have right now but anything decent won't fit inside ITX case.
>>109007345I just want some extra desk space and I don't want my PC on the floor where it's prone to be knocked about by my chair and gather even more dust than it already does
>>109007283I mean I definitely can stretch $400... it's just that I'd hate to pay $250 over msrp, whereas with the base 5070 I'm paying like $50 over msrp.Future proofing is a real concern tbqh because year after year shit just keeps on getting fucking worse and I'd have to wait until 2027 to see if the AI bubble explodes or not.>>109007313Read above. Yeah from the benchmarks I've seen on youtube the 5070 seems fine at 1440p rn, but with the imminent release of the PS6 shit will deteriorate real fast. That's hella annoying.
>>109007370I would simply mount the PC under the desk, there are multiple cheap ways to do so. For that money you could do better things than downsizing your PC.
>>109007257You can get a b550i for $90 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/G6VG3C/asrock-b550m-itxac-mini-itx-am4-motherboard-b550m-itxacIf you want a itx case recommendation get the deepcool ch170, it can fit massive air coolers like the noctua g2 etc so you wont lose out on cooling. Also you said you want to save space, the vertical form factor is better for that.
>>109007390There's no space for that at all I'm afraidAt that point I might have to end up changing the whole fucking desk as well which won't set me back much less than what I proposed
>>109007403I don't know, sounds like your desk is awfully small anyway. Why not simply extend your cables? You really don't have anywhere to put that PC? Tiny room?
>>109007377>but with the imminent release of the PS62 years isn't imminentAnd even then just look at how long it took before we saw games targeting something ps5 tier as the baseline. 8gb didn't even start having real issues until last year.

I have a 360hz OLED monitorI noticed when I have DSC disabled, I'm still able to use 360hz just fine through HDMI, I'm still able to enable HDR as well, but it's being displayed at 8bitI'm not noticing anything weird, just colors not being too saturated. I don't see any banding.Where can I see an actual difference? Of course enabling DSC or lowering down to 240hz shows the options to switch to 10 and 12bit depth.

My understanding is that HDR requires 10bit but it's not there at all.

Not sure if this is the best thread or anons can point me in the right direction. I've just slapped together a windows gaymen pc and now i'm not sure if hdmi or DP is the best option for screen connectivity. Both ports (with DSC) can handle the same resolution and refresh rate (though hdmi seems to support a 12 bit connection to my basic knowledge is there is no 12 bit content out there). Where I get more confused is my gpu supports hdmi 2.1a which I believe the a revision means source based tonemapping but as far as I can tell from my monitors manual it is only a hdmi 2.1 port. Thus my questions are really;1) Does them onitor need to be 2.1a for tonemapping to work?2) Given this is plugged into a windows pc does that support such a feature?I'm still learning all this HDR related malarkey.

purely from a cost pov, does it make sense to buy a barebone mini pc with a ryzen 7 gipu + ddr5 sodimm and upgrade with a oculink egpu later? I've got a spare ssd to insert too, so I wouldn't have to buy that extra.I know that technically tower pc's are the most cost-efficient, but as someone who likes to stay in the entry to midrange tier anyway is there any point in building a tower pc? For now, my money is tight and even a tower without a egpu and only 16gb ddr4 would probably cost me more than a mini pc setup with 32gb ddr5 and 780m. >>109011519You would need one if your desktop case doesn't physically fit the number of drives you need, or if you have a laptop that doesn't fit any drives, or, yes, if you have multiple computers that need to access the same files.Other than that, a dedicated nas doesn't really do anything that you can't do with a desktop, but if you have one the marginal cost of setting it up as a media server, web server, torrents, or whatever else you want is basically zero. So you can just tuck the nas away in a corner somewhere and not have to run your desktop 24/7 to run your services. That's generally the more interesting point for home users versus just a simple NFS/SMB host, but whether that is worth the extra cost of the hardware is more situational if you don't already need more drive bays.

>109012778>he boughted the planned obsolescence burn in panel instead of just setting up an IPS monitor properly LOL LMAO EVEN
I want to build a new PC. Should I buy DRAM before any spike in prices?I want to build a new pc, now I can buy at least 32 GB of 7200mhz DDR5.I will take me another 2 months to complete the build, the remaining components will be purchased together.I don't see RAM prices going down in the near future
>>109012872Nobody knows what will happen to ram prices, but they probably won't go down very soon.
>>109012872prices aren't going to normalize for a long while. In fact, I think current prices are the new "normal". Nothing wrong with buying your build 1 thing at a time however keep in mind that if your RAM kit happens to be broken out of box, you won't know until you're out of the return period more than likely from wherever you buy it from. Then you're at the mercy of the warranty system.
>>109012829I just did these settings with my 2 IPS panels and honestly, what a difference. Not even meming. Granted I have some decent LG Ultragear panels but still. I refuse to buy any monitor with major possible burn in potential as well as horrendous VRR flicker. Feel like an asshole buying an $800+ panel only to be told it has a potential lifespan of 2 years before static elements burn in and/or I have to turn off a feature (g-sync) that I fucking paid for.
Next, migrate at your leisure>>109013046>>109013046>>109013046
>>1090050767800x3d is still relavent nowadays?tray ofc.
>>109012339Guess your next best bet would be a Define 7 XL with this amount of spinning rust.Man I wish I upped mine before the prices went AWOL, now I'm out of storage and out of luck.
