>HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
how is that even possible? M$ just allows it? I know they don't fight against people not paying because they prefer to get the market share but allowing people to register on their servers is wild
>>
>>109061368
It's quite intuitive the way it's done. And basically impossible for MS to stop unless they just want to make all HWID activations stop working.
Basically for all these activations to stop working Windows 12 will need a new activation stack as the current one used from Vista onwards has been utterly split open.

The MAS website offers guides on how it works.

just checked it yeah so their servers are set to not block known used licenses on purpose, they just allow it

Hi there.
This is a screenshot of my disk management screen.
I have an older generation 500gb nvme with windows and where i also install programs and games and then a 500 & 250 gb Sata SSD currently empty as i just formatted them for shit, usually those are for straight up storage.
However when i have to move shit from those to the nvme those transfer always go like shit, they rubber band non stop, going from 400mb/s for example and then dropping until they almost totally stop, even actually seizing part of the pc for a moment (as in i can't drag the windows around at that moment) before gaining momentum again.

Is that normal? its just their speeds being so different that they cant keep a proper (even if slower) transfer going? or is there something i should check about the disks?
Thanks for any insight

>>
>>109063874
could be what you say, but considering the OS drive is the NVME I assume it's faster, so there wouldn't be a reason for your PC to stutter. Check task manager to see if it's your CPU the one that can't keep up with the transfer speed, and also check which drive works the most.

To discard possible drive errors, you could use crystaldiskinfo to see if there's any sector errors

anyone have experience with radeon 5000 on win 7, are the drivers really that bad?
>>
where sophie?
>>
>>109067004
Yes, they are. You'll have nothing but headaches trying to run 7 with that card.
Just use IoT LTSC 2021 and it'll be fine.

My mom is asking me about staying private on her computer. Couldn't install Linux due to broken audio software that she must have. How can I turn off telemetry in her windows? Lots of the tools and guides I see online also "debloat" the system and remove lots of things, but she still wants all of the windows apps and features.

>>109063874
Check SMART status of disks, also try enabling TRIM.
>>
>>109067155
>Just use IoT LTSC 2021 and it'll be fine.
building a z97 win7 system, I'll stick to the 580 for the gpu.
>>
>>109067162
Firstly make sure you install either the Enterprise or Education editions as registry edits actually respect them. Just add these to the registry and it'll remove a lot of it.
>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection
>Add the DWORDs AllowTelemetry (set to 0), AllowDeviceNameInTelemetry (set to 0) and DoNotShowFeedbackNotifications (set to 1.)
>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting
>Add the DWORD Disabled (set to 1.)
>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AdvertisingInfo
>Add the DWORD Disabled (set to 1.)
>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\InputPersonalization
>Add the DWORD AllowInputPersonalization (set to 0.)
Then after all that, go to the Services GUI and set the Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service to Disabled then press Stop. This should be enough.

I've been on Win10 LTSC since 2019 (when I built this PC).

Is it worth to move to a new Win11 LTSC installation? I mostly want features like bitwarden passkey handling being integrated, and I want to start fresh.
>>
>>109067883
You could always just in-place upgrade to IoT LTSC 2024 in your current install. It's easy to do, just download the ISO, mount it and run the setup.exe (but uncheck the install updates box.)
>>
>>109067928
That would require me to take the plunge. I was thinking of just installing it as separate installation and dual boot so I get the vibes.

But I wanted to hear from you guys if Win11 is truly dogshit irredeemable as they say.
>>
>>109067932
Nah it's much better then on release. It's getting better and better month to month now too because of the K2 initiative.
>>
>>109067940
But k2 isn't out yet is it? Also, if I'm installing IoT LSTC I don't see how I'm going to benefit from it.
>>
>>109067972
It's not a singular update, it's small updates that come with every monthly update from now till like late 2027.

I just had a problem booting from a windows install, nothing in troubleshooting helped, booted from a windows iso and still coudln't repair the installation and only offered me to reinstall anew.
>ENTER MACRIUM RESCUE TOOL
>Boot from the rescue tool
>Opens a window
>Finds my windows install
>Do you want to repair it? Y/N?
>Y
>Done, click finalize to reboot
>And straight to windows
Like holy fuck, i would recommend anybody to keep an iso for the rescue tool on your usb pen
>>
what is the difference between those ltsc isos that i have to hunt from archive.org and just regular win 10 copy i can download directly from microsoft's site?
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
its the latest thing they are offering, cant i just use that to reinstall my OS?
>>
>>109068031
Anon you can get any modern Windows ISO you need from the massgrave repo.
>>
>>109068037
>massgrave repo.
This is my first time seeing it recommended, so I'm not familiar with it.
How does the sha verification works when downloading from 3rd party places? Does microsoft free provides a list of sha for different versions or am I forced to make account and hunt it somewhere specific?
>>
>>109068256
The ISOs hosted there are all genuine, and they link sites where you can find SHAs and such for them.

Download and run pic related. Really easy gui interface for a lot of policy settings, with explanations/recommendations for each. Much easier than tweaking a million registry settings.
>>
>>109068410
I mean I'm the anon that posted the registry edits and it's only like six of them. ShutUp10 is still good though.
>>
>no more driver updates for W10
How fucked am I?
>>
>>109068432
If you have a modern graphics card that still gets driver updates you should probably just think about moving to 11 already.
>>
>>109068476
>>109068432
just manually download the gpu drivers?
>>
ever since the last update on 10 my mouse clicks won't register sometimes, it only happens in the explorer and not in games so pretty sure it's not my mouse
anyone else has this problem?
>>
>>109068410
No hate toward ShutUp10 but I don't understand why download a program that does the same thing that you can do natively but not as thoroughly? ShutUp10 is basically the groupe policy editor but heavily trimmed-down, no need to edit the registry.

>right click speaker tray icon -> sounds -> playback tab -> double click speakers -> enhancements -> disable all sound effects
What does this option do? A youtube video I could perfectly hear at 5% needs to be at 70% upon checking it but I had no sound effect activated anyway, so why is this happening?

yes sata ssd file transfer slow down as more data is moved, 500GB SSD had enough something they called parity to move dvd image at maximum speed
