No but once I was trying to get a raise at a job and applied at a casino.
They offered me the job for half of what I was already getting paid.
I still told my boss I got another offer and he offered me enough raise to “keep me there”
This was 20 years go and it’s how I broke through the $60k a year barrier back in 2006 or 2007.

I’m earning about $180k now in cyber security

> What does working feel like?
Depends. Most people don't work either. They just pretend. And I'm so lazy I don't even do that, but that's not related.
Physical work feels like hell at first. But you get used to it fast. Then there's cold beer with your fellow hard working men. Nothing beats this shit. But after a while it becomes a real drag. Usually very repetitive and so on. And I'm talking about trades and such, not some factory conweyor belt work. It's a thing to this day and I don't want to imagine how it feels like.
Office work is general is weird. Disgusting corpo culture is common. These are the people who don't work-just pretend the most. Usually there would be a couple of them competing for a handout and they would play dirty and have a lot of passive agression going on and try to set up mobbing, split up the team and make people take sides etc. Anyways, the good part is that you don't get to deal with fuken poison and dirt all the time.
I personally prefer physical work, but cannot handle the routine and simplicity of it for long, ngmi in trades.

It is hard to say now. I was able to transition from Networking to Cyber Sexurity because I had 20+ years of experience. that’s because in 2003 the network team was the only cybersecurity. Things are so different now.

>I would probably never fit in with blue collars
Not too hard. They're simple people, they like honesty and directness, can smell bs a mile away, so I'd say someone with autism and other self diagnosed ass burgers would fit in just fine.
Real people are not the same as some faggot's impression of them on a TV. Blue collars are chill if they see you as a person who's no stranger to labor. But they are actually strict when it comes to ingenuity and thinking fast, they don't like dumb and slow people.
>>

You seem like you are afraid of failure. It's okay to fail at some jobs. I used to call companies and try to sell them shit, back when my life was even worse than it is now. I was a god at selling printer toner, so you'd think I'd be good at sales in general, but I couldn't sell corporate hospitality packages at all. To be fair, I think that job was a scam and we were working illegally and they just didn't tell us, so maybe it's okay that I never sold anything.

I don't really care about you or your chitchat or anything besides what I'm currently thinking about, the average phone call with me from family members lasts 1 minute and I speak fewer than 10 words, if you need something from me then message me on teams otherwise I will forget.
>>
>>109106724

>>
>>109107273
Being able to communicate is part of being a good software dev.

Talking about yourself - it's a mix of yes/no questions which you should just answer truthfully and maybe elaborate briefly, and open ended questions which you can talk about with nerd passion like you would here just without swearing.

And I guess another important thing which I noticed, is that the flow of the conversation matters, and you too control it. And it can get stuck.

And I think that a nice strategy is to try to never get it stuck. You do it, by answering with enough words that make the topic feel properly comprehensive. Saying just "yes/no" makes it stuck, because the interviewer didn't expect it. And talking for too long will also get it stuck, because it's kind of out of the "normie rhythm" that they're used to.

And when there are questions, you always ask them (not asking them would get the conversation stuck).

So you can think of the convo as having a live "flow" meter which you want to keep as high as possible, basically bounce it back and forth with your speaker

How is that possible? Maybe you got something wrong and they just want you to pass some additional exams? Pretty sure in most countries you can get multiple degrees no promlem. Crazy and very productive.

I’m 24M and four years into my software engineering career, but I’m starting to feel stuck.

I got an internship through community college at a Fortune 500 financial company doing COBOL development. At the time, I just wanted experience and figured I’d stay a few years before moving on.

Overall, it’s been a great job: fully remote, flexible PTO, good benefits, low stress, and decent Midwest pay around $92k. The work-life balance has been hard to beat.

The issue is that several senior people on my team have retired recently, and their roles haven’t been backfilled. More responsibility keeps landing on me. I’m now the primary person for systems that generate millions of dollars for the company, and I’m the only person working in my specific area. Realistically, it could justify a whole team.

What’s weird is that I don’t feel burned out from overwork. I feel disengaged. I waste too much time watching YouTube, push projects off until tomorrow, then repeat the cycle. Somehow I still get everything done by the deadline, but I don’t like how I’m operating.

I’m also at a stage where stability matters more than it did when I was 19. I’m planning to get engaged within the next year, and giving up fully remote work, flexible PTO, lunch naps, job security, and the overall freedom of this role feels hard. Since no one can really replace me right now, I could probably stay here for the next 10 years.

At the same time, I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve outgrown the role. The pay is fine, but it doesn’t always feel proportional to the ownership I’ve taken on. Then again, because I spend a lot of my day procrastinating, it feels hard to complain. Part of me wonders whether I’d be more motivated if I were paid significantly more, or if this is just a sign I need to move on.

I walked into an interview for a position I was clearly underqualified for, failed all but 2 of the 20 technical questions, and still got hired because the interviewer liked the fact that I didn't waste his time and just said "I don't know, next question" whenever I was asked something I didn't know. Apparently every other interview was a long drawn-out process of people trying to guess and performing lengthy internal mental crashouts when they didn't know the answer to something.

They have but one desire a loving female a loving person but that is not what they are attracting.
Women are repulsed by obesity.
Women are repulsed by anime, gamer, techie types.
Women are repulsed by sexual behavior.
Women are repulsed by philosophy so not even rationalizing will save you from this fate.

The ability required to produce such a video is grand and is truly a valuable skill but that will not help you breed. You must reject your own feelings and you must go out and get any real feedback regardless of how negative it is, then you must change.

Probably, but from my experience no one will pay you more than they do now, and they have little no interest to change your role in the company, so you'll either end up as a gay manager in that company or you'll keep working like you do now. It's easier to switch to a company if you need a change of that kind. Also for more complex projects like fullstack, u can use Neon for a database it has a free tier no cc required, host everything on Vercel they give u a free subdomain but it's random.

You can also use Cloudflare, they have the free projectname.pages.dev subdomain.

Unemployed (obviously) loser here.
I used to work on SBIRS and OPIR (the missile warning systems) and have it listed on my resume. A career coach told me to take it out because once the dude reading your resume sees some specific military equipment listed they instantly lose interest because they have no idea what it is and don't give a fuck about looking it up. I guess that would make sense if it was some absurdly niche designation like AN-PRC 69/420Y®(3b) MK5 or whatever, but SBIRS as a whole is a pretty big thing. I don't expect most people to have heard of any satellite constellation besides GPS, but doesn't seeing satellite systems mentioned in a resume make normies go "Whoa this dude must be all smart and shit"? Basically, I think that advice was incredibly retarded for my situation... but I'm the one who's unemployed, not him.
Thoughts?

It's okay too. I just updated my tlmgr packages and wrote unit tests for my project, now I'm gonna do nothing
>>
>>109117023
I'm an unemployed loser and probably will never touch anything important like this in my life, but why would you listen this specific equipment in your resume, instead of using standard, generic wording for it, just to let everyone know that you worked with, idk, certain protocols, familiar with certain standard technologies, instead of just naming obscure stuff that 99% of people never heard of

It's occurred to me there is no way to get hired in tech unless you become an actual unironic underpaid "I must do everything my boss says or I get deported back to Nigger Hell" slave. I can't imagine being smug about this either because much like what AI companies did to the economy every other sector will go "Oh wow you can do that? We gotta buy some slaves!"

I did mine with Codex yesterday. Important is that you build the base with something like Latex or Typst, and from there, you generate the PDFs or whatever. It will give you better control over the layout.

I interviewed today. My code was logically sound and ticked off the spec, but I cocked up an extensibility question.
We were to refactor a switch that called an appropriate method mapped from a string, but the interviewer wanted the lookup to be dynamic - this was create an interface, then create a dictionary that maps the "key" to its implementation. I got as far as "use a common interface" but didn't implement it, or the dictionary.
After, I asked the robot - this was called the "strategy" pattern. It didn't occur to me to use it.
I need to learn more about this sort of architecture in OO applications. Something that teaches me concrete implementations. Because no one has ever sat down and explained this to me, and the books I've looked at don't go deep into the right nomenclature for my language and framework.
So I feel like I'm going to fumble every interview at this point, and I have to adapt because every SW company in my locality are heavy on enterprise style programming. I like my type-safe language better, but all jobs using it at my level now ask for this architecture knowledge.

do you guys have gaps in your resume?
I have combined 3.5 years gap. 2.5 years of that is the extra time I took to pass my uni exams. I got laid off a year ago and started a contract in January this year which got terminated after 1 month. My resume is so fucked
>>
I'll be honest I never expected to be laid off while busy. Being part of an overworked team and then having management do layoffs to save more money and everyone left behind is just scrambling and even more stressed

This has to backfire eventually right?

imma be real dawg, your lack of any punctuation but commas is hurting my brain, and I'm not sure I interpreted your post correctly. But to answer the question I think you're asking, I should have added more context to my original post. I list "SBIRS and OPIR satellite-based missile detection networks" on my resume as the whole overarching program at one of my jobs, "satellite-based missile detection networks" added on in the very likely case whoever's reading my resume won't know those acronyms and won't bother looking them up. I namedrop it because
>it gives context to what I was working on
>something cool and expensive like that makes me sound bigger brained than I really am (I hope)
>it could pop up for an ATS keyword filter or some shit
>why wouldn't I?
Afterward I list what I did there and all but the most obscure tools/technology/techniques/etc. I used. I'm not saying this is the right way to do it, I could be completely wrong (I am unemployed after all), but it makes sense to me.
