What would you do? The two times I went to my company physically I really thought I'd kill myself (lights, people, traffic, noise).

I really suffer because of the autism, and I don't think I'd be able to work 8 hours in office. I thought about tanking it for 3 years or so, make money to buy some farm or shit, but I have no idea what a former engineer, former web dev and former forensics guy would do in the private sector if I leave after some years.

Same as any other civil servant I guess. For legal reasons I run as a disabled person (separate list of candidates) but I passed with enough grades to beat the regular folks so another disabled person will get in my quota.

I’m working in a startup company, $250k base. The environment has gotten extremely stressful and toxic. Leadership is on that AI koolaid and I’m not sure if their vision for the company is doable in the next couple of months. We also laid off half the engineers and their work is dumped on us, including new stuff we have to work on.

I’ve only got about 8 years or experience, but am in a position where I’m looking to start a SaaS company (not goofy vibe-coded micro SaaS get rich quick, actual software.) 5 years ago, I’d have been very happy to hire an enthusiastic junior that I could mentor into a productive engineer. I’m concerned that isn’t possible anymore. My main concern is that Chat writes bad code. Chat can be used to write good code, but, I simply don’t like the default chud it generates.

As far as I’m concerned, I would employ a person to produce quality code. I don’t care how they get there, but they need to produce quality code. A senior who knows their stuff, can be very productive with Chat, and I could generally trust their code. However, I’m concerned that Chat is becoming too great a crutch for juniors who never went through the “grunt phase” of actually building shit. I simply would not trust a junior with Chat.

Anyway, I want to test how an applicant actually thinks about and solves software problems. I will never test using leetcode. So I’m thinking I provide a take home challenge and then call the applicant into an in-person interview to explain their approach and I can try to poke holes. I suspect it will become obvious very quickly if they just offloaded everything to Chat in their implementation.
