>web dev in almost rock stable job
>~3k USD monthly
>progression is slow because company
>fully remote because of autism
>most of the time I slack off because who cares, still get job done while "working" for just 20h instead of 40.

Managed somehow to be selected to work as a "criminal expert" for the cops doing digital forensics, audio, image etc
>Triple the salary
>absolutely NO possibility of remote/hybrid for the next 4-6 years due to gov. policy, even as disability accommodation
>no flexibility, in-office for 8 hours
>much smaller organization (can count people on your hands), can't hide if I want to slack off
>possibly gore related shit, cp and other stuff
>hellish traffic, would have to use money to live close to job, away from beach
>have to be in the place for at least 5 years

What would you do? The two times I went to my company physically I really thought I'd kill myself (lights, people, traffic, noise).

I really suffer because of the autism, and I don't think I'd be able to work 8 hours in office. I thought about tanking it for 3 years or so, make money to buy some farm or shit, but I have no idea what a former engineer, former web dev and former forensics guy would do in the private sector if I leave after some years.

I'm a OK web dev, not a great one.

>>>109155683
>Do you have any clue of what that entails?
Biometrics, chain of custody, speaker comparison, DSP, lots of legal stuff. Essentially collect, handle and process evidence and give my opinion on it.

>Why the fuck would the cops allow some random webdev to do forensics? What shithole are you in?
>make hard test with other 10000 trillion people
>have the right qualifications (certain engineering degree)
>be the first
Same as any other civil servant I guess. For legal reasons I run as a disabled person (separate list of candidates) but I passed with enough grades to beat the regular folks so another disabled person will get in my quota.
>>
Maybe it's just me but anyone noticed online a lot of people has become passive aggressive little shits? It's one thing when it's in the office and you gotta talk "nice", it's another when I'm at home trying to figure out something and I get some fucking smart ass femboy being an absolute cunt.

How dead end and stable is your current job? If you can triple your salary I'd usually say go for it but it depends on how severe your autism is. If you get a nervous breakdown or start fapping to evidence on your first week, your theoretical salary becomes meaningless as you'd get fired.
>>
>>109155893
>Essentially collect, handle and process evidence and give my opinion on it.
Did you get this from some LLM?
I'm asking about the technical knowledge. Have you ever analyzed, say, a HDD to search for clues?

That's a good job, you should accept it. Small team means less learning how to socialise with these people.
Gov job despite forcing you on-site will probably be calmer than office of your previous job.
Also stuff is so unstable right now that a 5 year contract is a blessing.
>>
The job market seems worse than it was a year ago. Glad I'm still waging and didn't take a sabbatical or something.
>>
>>109156147
When someone tells you to follow your dreams and travel the world they are not saying it out of goodwill towards you - it's meant to sabotage you.
>>
>through stroke of luck got a job in infosec despite having no direct experience that pays ~130k

do i risk trying to find something else? manager says im doing really well but i feel like a dumbass who doesn't know anything despite everyone telling me otherwise. no certs. lazily working on CISSP but dont know when ill be able to get it plus it needs 5 years of direct work experience anyway. do i just chill here for the next 3-4 years, get a cert and then try to fuck off?

>>
>>109155893
Stop being a webdev faggot and take the job. Sounds like you'd be doing something serious & meaningful for once in your life.
>>
>web dev who has no clue about forensics gets an offer from police for 9k/mo
>inexperienced retard gets job doing whatever at a SOC for $130k
I wonder if we are being ragebaited or maybe talking to indians. There is no way for me to believe that "people" who are completely inexperienced and apparently useless are being hired in infosec with such good wages.
I had no work experience when I was hired in this field (infosec), but I had proof or my work (got some CVEs, reports, and was in a CTF team, and they knew me so well, they referenced me to my first employer), so it wasn't pure luck in my case.
Fuck, I'm jelly now.
>>
>>109156327
I believe in their cases it is simply luck. Sometimes it's a good idea just to apply somewhere from a safe position.
>>
>>109156327
>I had no work experience when I was hired in this field (infosec), but I had proof or my work (got some CVEs, reports, and was in a CTF team, and they knew me so well, they referenced me to my first employer)

so you're the same as the retard above and just got in because of connections? cool.
>>
>>109156354
nta but I graduated with meh grades from a good uni, didn't have any work experience nor could I actually program and only found employment by joining the company of a friend. I stayed there for a few years and eventually joined a more prestigious company. Sometimes in life you just need luck.
>>
>>109156354
>connections bad!
So you have no idea what CTFs or CVEs are. Lol.
Here's a hint: I made money doing shit before being hired.
Also, a tip: having connections for being competent/good at something is how you get anywhere in this world.

> you're the same as the retard above
?
>>
>hispanic
computer science was supposed to be my ticket to get as far away as possible from my family and other hispanics and yet I still can't afford it and my only options are to move to the middle of bumfuck nowhere and make 60k a year or move to california and live around other hispanics and jeets to make 200k a year
>>
>>109156380
literally the only reason you got in is because of the reference. the retard you were making fun of probably got in the same way. by knowing someone from his previous job. you're the same as him.
>>
>>109156393
You could move to majority black cities.
>>
>>109156403
Which one, you retard? The forensics guy said he was selected. If you are implying reference, then you are retarded, because that's not the only way professionals are selected, esp. in government positions. Forensics jobs usually require certs (which are expensive AF), at least in decent countries. So that would likely imply not only references, but actual nepotism.
The SOC one said he has no "direct experience". No idea what that means, but research/high level SOC jobs usually also require past experience. They wouldn't hire some rando.
My first job was neither of those (I'm a pentester), but I did get experience and did some forensics courses.
Forensics is hard but BORING af, btw
>>
>>109156025
>I'm asking about the technical knowledge. Have you ever analyzed, say, a HDD to search for clues?
No, but there is 4 months of training (you can get fired if you fail), and 3 years of "experience". I'm more of a Biometrics/audio/DSP person.
>Did you get this from some LLM?
No, it is a rough translation of the law that "creates" this position in the government.
>>109156073
>Small team means less learning how to socialise with these people.
Or being stuck with Adolf Hitler, the Commander of the Third Floor. The entire organization is 500 people for the entire state I'm located.

>How dead end and stable is your current job?
>dead end
Higher pay than entry-mid developer jobs in my country, progression is slow because public company (also governement) has a strict promotion schedule thing. But I can study for other shit and maybe find a job in the US/Europe...
>stable
I have to pretty much kill someone, steal data or commit a crime to be fired. Even with AI.
>>109156284
My current job is 'serious'. I handle personal data for like millions of people. But I will not get the criminal expert salary in less than 10 years here.
>>
>>109156005
it is more about getting exhausted really quickly when around people/certain noises/traffic than being a mental retard.
>>
>>109156027
I dunno strangers out in the public are usually cunty as well. Even coworkers are sometimes cunty.
>>
Trying to fix my work life balance by doing a bunch of shit and hobbies outside life and what I'm finding is the more "active" a hobby is. The less snobby and cunty the community is. A run club? Pretty damn friendly. Playing card games? Oh my fucking god I never knew how fucking "ACKTUALLY" shit people are.
>>
>>109156516
Can you power through by drinking exorbitant amounts of caffeine for example? If so, you could pass probation period in your new company and after that use your retard card to get special accomodations.
I'd say take the new job. You'll suffer but you'll be paid handsomely and the hell period will only last months, not decades.

blame the jews for making market conditions and employment law so bad that a single malevolent employee is an extreme risk to any company via frivolous, but still dangerous litigation.

What do these things actually mean? When it says can't write compilable code does it mean they can't write fizz buzz with no errors? Or they take too long to fix the errors? Or they don't even know what the fuck compilable means? Like I can't write anything over 50 lines first shot without making some typo somewhere (assuming no on-line linter), but then the compiler complains and I fix it

Damn, sounds like you're riding the edge but at least you're alive and pushing through, which is more than most can say. Keep grinding those leetcode and side projects, build that resume as much as you can so when the time comes, you can jump ship quickly. Don't forget to prioritize your mental health—find small ways to decompress or vent, even if it’s just a quick walk or some dumb meme. When you’re in a crunch like this, every little bit of stability helps, so try to save a bit even if it’s tight, and keep networking as much as possible. Worst case, you’ve got a good story and some skills that’ll make you more resilient next time shit hits the fan. Hang in there, you’re doing better than you think.

what are some good certs that actually matter for developers? I am trying to pad my resume rn because my current work is just shit ass PHP and no javascript framework or anything so while I technically have 2 years of experience as a fullstack developer it's not using any relevant tech for current year. Was going to do an AWS developer cert and some AI said Linux Foundation certs would be helpful for some reason. But if I just do a couple certs and some personal projects using modern tech is that enough supplemented with my 2 YoE as a fullstack dev to land a job?

How is this even a question? Isn't 3k USD a lot in a third world country? What's the point of money if your life turns into living hell? Sounds like you already earn plenty, probably in the top 10% of your country.

Don't be a retarded like an American who lives like a dog with 80 hour weeks and no vacation just to earn more money which he doesn't have the time to spend or enjoy properly until he's a boomer anyway.

No need to say what I'd do right? Enjoy your life with your comfy job and stop treating the job as anything other than a means to sustain what you actually enjoy in life. Remember, greed is a sin.

Sorry, 3 K is like "premium poor" or middle class. I think 3% earners. 9 K is 1-0.5%.
>>
>>109164178
>3% earners
If it's the top 3% then it's absolutely not any sort of poor or middle class, that's by definition upper class. Also in what 3rd world country is 36k USD "premium poor"? I assume you're in some place like Dubai or Singapore.

Either way, do you live comfortably with that money? Can you save up and invest? How much more would you actually earn with the 9k job once taxes, rent, and cost of living is factored in? Honestly judging by what you've said that isn't even a factor though, you want a higher paying job to improve your quality of life so what's the logic behind getting a job that turns most of your life into hell for you?

If you think shock therapy will get over your autism and that 9k will make a considerable difference in your quality of life (for the better) then go for it, but according to what you've posted it makes little sense.
>>
>>109164280
It is OK. I don't have any goals in life and I don't buy shit. just pay rent and food, I save like 2k.

I think I will stay, remote allows me to study for other civil servant exams that are remote friendly, and maybe a company abroad hires me idk.

Both jobs have private retirement plans where the employer matches my monthly contributions.

I’m working in a startup company, $250k base. The environment has gotten extremely stressful and toxic. Leadership is on that AI koolaid and I’m not sure if their vision for the company is doable in the next couple of months. We also laid off half the engineers and their work is dumped on us, including new stuff we have to work on.
I got offered by my old company to apply for a new role, $120k base according to levels.fyi. It’s a big tech company, and they regularly do layoffs too, but at least there’ll be more structure there and I loved working with the people there.
I do have bills to pay, like a $5k monthly mortgage. My partner got laid off and is looking for work, so they’re not contributing right now.
Should I jump or not?

Yeah there's definitely something to be said about staying somewhere and actually dealing with and fixing the consequences of an implementation definitely makes you learn more

Do you make personal projects on company time?

I can't bring myself to code if I don't get paid for it.

No but that's because I don't make personal projects, otherwise of course I would

I see. Now, what stopping them from saying "sure, but we will pay you half of what you would get if we laid you off" or something like that?

Yes and boomer managers are the absolute worst. At my job they work like 6 hours a day, take 2-3 days off every other week, never help you out when you need shit, and then bitch at you when you don't finish something on time.
Companies are kept alive by a small group of engineers and like a half dozen competent managers, the rest are all parasites.
>>
>>109170128
no, I rest during 9 to 5, and then work on my projects

I still don't get why you guys are seething over someone using copilot to correct an email.

And here's the part where you call it "based" despite not being the one fiscally benefitting from the situation because that's what you're programmed to respond with.

>>109170822
It's making decisions really. I hate execs and suits way more than you do, but you seriously cannot get mad at them using copilot as a delivery vehicle to process some bullshit.

"Kirkification" is an internet meme trend that took off in late 2025. Here's the gist:
What it is: Using AI face-swap technology to put Charlie Kirk's face onto photos, videos, or screenshots of other people — celebrities, internet personalities, or just regular people in selfies/front-facing camera clips. The result is called a "kirkified" image, and creating one is to "kirkify" something.
How it works technically, per the tools built around it:

Face detection — the AI locates faces in the uploaded image
Feature mapping — Charlie Kirk's facial features get mapped onto the detected face(s)
Generation/blending — the AI blends the swap so it looks (semi-)realistic, usually in 5–30 seconds

It's essentially a face-swap meme format, not conceptually different from older face-swap trends, just streamlined by modern AI tools (several dedicated "Kirkify" web apps sprang up to automate it with one-click uploads).

I think I'm fucking done guys. I'm done grinding interviews, I'm done working with micromanaging immigrants, I'm done with keeping up with the retarded tech stacks, I'm done with all the gay bullshit. lucky streak, all my jobs so far has been enjoyable and with mostly nice people, job security

low low pay, but my household still in the top 80% in my country, tells you how shit this country may be

in ten years we will be top 10% or even top 5%
I never had to deal with corporate politics or any other idiocy, lots of freedom and autonomy

not sure why this happens to me

wish everyone luck

I’ve only got about 8 years or experience, but am in a position where I’m looking to start a SaaS company (not goofy vibe-coded micro SaaS get rich quick, actual software.) 5 years ago, I’d have been very happy to hire an enthusiastic junior that I could mentor into a productive engineer. I’m concerned that isn’t possible anymore. My main concern is that Chat writes bad code. Chat can be used to write good code, but, I simply don’t like the default chud it generates.

As far as I’m concerned, I would employ a person to produce quality code. I don’t care how they get there, but they need to produce quality code. A senior who knows their stuff, can be very productive with Chat, and I could generally trust their code. However, I’m concerned that Chat is becoming too great a crutch for juniors who never went through the “grunt phase” of actually building shit. I simply would not trust a junior with Chat.

Anyway, I want to test how an applicant actually thinks about and solves software problems. I will never test using leetcode. So I’m thinking I provide a take home challenge and then call the applicant into an in-person interview to explain their approach and I can try to poke holes. I suspect it will become obvious very quickly if they just offloaded everything to Chat in their implementation.

went to an interview recently, coding

some issue with something, needed to resort to vim

wrong laptop, vim not pimped, no autocomplete whatsoever

still managed to write all the code

I think without knowing this was the strongest signal

this guy writes programs by hand in a simple editor, he is a magician

the world was a more preponderant place in the past for sure
