Steam is invaded by nvidiots, those fanboys purposely rig the chart so Nvidia always looks the best even. Even though proper reporting would still have Nvidia at the top but it wouldn't be as dominant as people think with 90%+ market share.

Theres performance overhead, on already performance starved system. It works better on more perfomant gpus. Theres a reason why mobile gpus arent included in the fsr4 support.
Also the quality cant be quite as good due to the hardware differences.

Reposting from the stupid questions thread.

Building a new PC, my current one is quite old. There's nothing I want to salvage from the old build into the new one, other than my two SSDs. One is over 10 years old, the other is probably around 7ish.

What are the major risks in bringing over my storage to my new PC? I'm pretty tech illiterate and I'm terrified that I might bring over some malware or miners or something. Is there a comprehensive way to make sure I won't?
>>
>>109166274
If you format the drive it'll remove all data on them
In the case you keep data if you have unsafe pirated exe files that may generate new malware on new pc when you run them
Windows defender should do pretty good job detecting viruses.
>>
>>109166274
boot up a live linux usb and run clamav on the suspected drives. the main risk is actually your storage will be slow by modern standards
>>
>>109166274
no risk, if they fail they failed themselves only
>>
>>109166288
I dont want to format them, mostly because most of the storage are videos or old project files that I want to keep for archiving/sentimental value. I have a few pirated games, but I haven't pirated any software in a very long time, it's mostly just movies.
I cant quite remember if sata drives are straight plug and play, or if my new computer will force me to format them anyway. It's been a decade since I built my last PC.
>>
>>109166304
you can move the media files over to another drive and then format leaving sus files behind

if and when you RMA, make certain you document everything. patience is important. take pictures of the items. check in with them regularly, and don't be too insistent. i've RMA'd things before and this approach has always been successful. last time for me it was a power supply.
>>

you gonna need new ram and a new mobo so that is not a 150 bux upgrade
your gpu is also very under powered for that cpu

Is frame gen a meme like raytracing or does it genuinely help? I see that dlss is the better choice over fsr.
>>
>>109166393
RT is pretty standard in modern games.
Id enable frame gen in most games, since more smooth is better.
>>
>>109166399
Doesn't frame generation add latency though? I mean I guess in single player games it wouldn't matter.
>>

who cares if it does
like you have to define some parameters of acceptable latency to you and then demonstrate you personally feel its too much for a specific game or something

*this info is wrong, you should be able to just return one item for a replacement, but you can't return it for a refund (but it seems like you CAN return for a refund for some bundles, but it will subtract the discount, so you get $0 back if the discount is larger than the item).

I kind of asked this in a previous thread, but with some new details, I want a new answer.
I realized the Corsair 850W PSU I've been using and planned on using for my new 5070 Ti is almost 12 years old, looking back at my order history. I got it for my GTX 970, I thought I got it for my RTX 2070. It has also survived a direct lightning strike on our house that killed several TVs, a Nintendo Switch dock, and even a vehicle in the driveway. It still runs my current GPU great, but it could be a ticking time bomb.
The RTX 5070 Ti arriving this week comes with a free PSU, a Rosewill VMG 1000W PSU. I was planning on just reselling it, but I'm having second thoughts, maybe I should use it. I've heard Rosewill is a budget brand compared to Corsair, but it seems to have decent ratings, and apparently Japanese capacitors which are better.

>>
>>109166558
Yeah another plus I suppose. Would have to use the adapter with the Corsair. I'd have to rewire the computer but maybe it's for the best, I need to clean it anyway.

I can't find worthwhile reviews on that PSU so I would stick with Corsair.

>>
>>109166649
I only found some complaints about Rosewill as whole and someone mentioning it blew up their stuff but I read something similar about SuperFlow as well when they are considered top of the market. Does Rosewill produce their own PSUs or is it just another manufacturer in disguise like most do?

Digital Foundry says GTA 6 is not expected to run at 60 FPS on any PS5 console, including the PS5 Pro.

According to the team, the biggest problem is the CPU, not the GPU. The game’s large open world, advanced AI, heavy traffic, and high number of NPCs are expected to be too demanding for current PS5 hardware to deliver stable 60 FPS.

The PS5 Pro should still offer better image quality and improved graphics, but Digital Foundry doesn’t think it will be enough to reach 60 FPS.

Jason Schreier says Xbox has already started making cuts ahead of the major layoffs expected after Microsoft’s fiscal year ends.

“The massive Xbox layoffs won’t happen until after the fiscal year ends, but the company is already ending contracts and cutting vendors,”

“Assembly, Xbox’s main PR agency, is laying people off today.”

Multiple reports say the company is preparing for another round of massive job cuts as it continues restructuring its gaming business.

amd could've bought samsung 6nm for cheap and built the 6800x3d (7800x3d on am4) but they're greedy like every other company
>>
>>109167337
V-Cache is a technology developed with TSMC, samsung wouldn't have been able to do it.

the Zen4 CCDs are running on AM4 in the AMD engineering labs, they could have finished the engineering on that and released the 7800X3D on AM4.
AMD had to re-tape the 5800X3D anyway because the original V-cache tech isn't done that way anymore (it was updated for Zen 4) so they could have gone with N6, Zen3+ and even added through vias to power 9800X3D style under die V-cache and higher boost clocks.
instead they just updated the original Zen3 design to suit Zen 4 V-cache, on N7 and called it a day.
the design costs nothing because Zen3 was already paid for, taping it out costs the money.
>>
>>109167375
I have an underlying feeling that if the ram shortage gets as bad as the doomerest of the predictions that amd would actually make a new node shrunk am4 cpu, specially if intel were to pull their heads out of their asses and make new lga1700 cpus in a <10nm node
>>
>>109167389
I doubt it, AMD could have done something special for the 10th anniversary and instead we just got the 5800X3D re-release and that is meant to satisfy AM4 owners until the ram shortage eases.
>>
>>109167442
I think it all depends on zen 6 launch
if zen 6 and nova lake don't sell well they might realize no one is building new machines and consider an upgrade to their ddr4 machines, because they could release new cpus for those on older nodes like 6nm 5nm and those would sell well because 16/32gb ddr4 is still quite affordable
and they would charge $350+ for each of those new cpus, which is far more than they sell cpus on average
>>
>>109166368
>are you a linux user?

>>109167464
AMD will not release anything further, the 5800X3D is meant to be the ram shortage product as well as the 10th anniversary product.

i figured as much with the

the new ryzen is on a new socket so you are not going to be able to just change out the cpu. you are going to need a new mobo and new and expensive ddr5 ram. idk you have 32gb ddr4 so i'd look for an 5800x/ 5700x (not the 5700) for a cheap upgrade or an x3d cpu (5800x3d, 5700x3d, 5600x3d, 5500x3d) but your gpu would also need an upgrade for that to make sense.

a 9060xt/ non xt (if you can find one of those for cheap) would be more than fast enough for 1080p with a 3600 (you could upgrade it to a cheap 5700x)
you'd have to lookup the games you want to play if those need more than 8gb of vram because the choice is either 8gb or 16gb with the 9060xt

Only fairly new game I want to play is Expedition 33, the extra compute would be nice for video editing, emulation, and LLM hosting and shit. Most of the games I play are around 10 years old, but I do other things that require compute.

Valve says the Steam Machine’s HDMI 2.1 issue is now “fully resolved.”

Valve developer confirmed that “HDMI 2.1 VRR works in current software on both FreeSync displays and HDMI Forum VRR TVs.”

He also said full HDMI 2.1 FRL support is still coming in a future update.
Once it arrives, the Steam Machine will support up to 4K at 144Hz without Display Stream Compression (DSC), or up to 4K at 240Hz with DSC.

That's quite impressive, I wonder even more about the secondary and tertiary timings. And I wonder what would happen with bumping the voltage to 1.5 V. Stable CL 24? Some extremely low secondary/tertiary timings?
Also I wonder what is actually going here. Are those just normal Hynix die, just some golden samples binned? Are there some actual changes to the ICs or something else? Or is just the new Agesa/BIOSes that better with handling RAM timings and you can now get better timings on any die?
Oh and I also wonder if/how the dual rank modules will be.

It's for the workstations, so you can plug in couple of GPUs. No need for normal users, especially that they don't even have the PCIe lanes or slots for all those GPUs.

6000cl26 is old news
6000cl26 1.40v kits launched early last year and were quickly downgraded to 1.45v to improve yields. Maybe binning some of the original 1.40v kits would give you a couple of sticks that can run 6000cl24 1.50v
>>
>>109168412
It's not that much more expensive than their 1600w version here and it would allow GPUs with multiple 12v cables. However I don't know how their IVS would work then as only one cable has the 12V stabilization assuming there'd be really more dual 12v2x6 connector GPUs unless it's enough to measure a single cable to get smooth 12v
>>
>>109168404

I missed the train on the cl26 1.4 V and didn't bought the 64gb cl26 1.45 for ~500 usd because I thought it's too much compared to cl30 for 200
But now we have another set of sticks, and those supposedly do cl26 1.35 with some subtimings better than the cl26 1.4 ones.
>>109168515
IDK, there was the derbauer test of that cable an he found that it provides even more instability, though when he removed part of a cable it was actually more stable
There is possibility there will be revision of the cable and I think it's supposed to be purchasable separately for other Asus PSus
I mean, there is plenty of ifs
We don't know if there will be much more two power slots GPUs or if 6090 will use two. We don't know if they will be using them, then there won't be another change of the port or some ATX 3.2 revision or whatever bullshit, so you would need to change your PSU anyway. Or that the new CPUs/mobos won't use three EPS ports and you will need to change the PSU too

Trying to buy a used gpu for around 200€. 3070ti 8gb and 2080ti seem like the top picks for the exact same price. But which one should I go for?
The extra vram on 2080ti is nice but I'm not yet sure if 1440p gaming is actually important to me. 3070ti obviously has better dlss and is probably more optimized for productivity I guess. I can't really decide.

A 6900XT would probably not even be worth upgrading to a 5070ti right now, correct?

Seems like mine is dying though, games keep crashing, sometimes display goes black and output never returns until I hard reset the PC.
I did a lot of Performance Logging via AMD Adrenaline. When a game crash happens, the log behaviour is always the same: the GPU logs stop for ~1-2 seconds and then resume. In that time the game dies. Card runs pretty hot, but doesnt look like thermal throttling - at the time of the log freeze it was sitting at 88–96 °C, which shouldnt kill it. Undervolt did not help, turning off all AMD adrenaline shenanigans (anti lag, ...) did not help either.

So I am thinking of buying a new gpu, but it would really suck if the GPU wasnt even at fault. But I wouldn't know what else could cause this. Somehow the card was perfectly fine in a 3D Mark Stresstest, was at 99.6% stability over 20 loops. But in actual games its not.

it doesn't affect performance but it does something because it can cause instability for the iGPU
i believe the theory was a single-row refresh

but tRC is one of the most important timings for performance and tRAS is linked with tRC
so lower tRAS will also lead to lower tRC
(the board is supposed to set tRC=tRAS+tRCD, but many boards ignore this and use a higher value, if they program it into the EXPO profile it should be more reliable)

Is there any discernable difference in quality between the PNY and Gigabyte 5070 cards? A local Best Buy has the 5070 cards in stock, but I have to go to MN to get the 5800x3D. My only experience with PNY is their flash drives weren't great, but I've had good experiences with previous Gigabyte cards. I'm planning on playing Hell Let Loose and Post Scriptum, alongside Arma 3 occasionally.

retard, its a buggy survey, like ~6 months back i noticed the 9070s being in the survey, then when i checked in 2 months later they were gone, now 9070xt's are in the survey.

It was always a shitshow of bad code, they have no incentive to correct it for our sakes.

literally just search X gpu vs Y gpu on duckduckgo and you get a bunch of results. Ignore the Userbenchmark site obviously, for some stupid reason its often number 1 on the results.

I don't live in a city, I live in a small town near farmland. I have to go three hours for anything decent related to PCs, outside of maybe a Best Buy that sells the same card in the nearby larger town. The closest thing we have to that is maybe a small time guy who builds PCs out of their home and ships them out, but that guy's like two, three hours away.

get the cheapest one. even the worst performing one in terms of relative noise and temp (i.e., gigabyte) compared to other brands will still run cool and quiet during gaming

but based on personal experience though, i'd avoid XFX. I bought the Swift model and it was fucking louder than my airblower Vega 56, even with undervolting and fan curve adjustment. I replaced it with an Asrock Challenger and have no issues with it.
>>
I'm considering building a new PC from scratch to get the best performance possible, maybe recycle some storage or something. Current PC is still chugging decently, but even when I built it in 2015 it was using older mid tier ass parts, I feel like building something that I need to just do maintenance on and that'll remain decently efficient for playing shit on for years to come, rather than replacing shit every few years desu.

Won't make it past BIOS, gets stuck the moment I try to install Windows or Linux (the first frame the bootable drive loads) and then throws erros about PCI and Memory soomewhat randomly, making it unusable until I flash the bios again, and the process repeats. I've tried all sorts of troubleshooting and configuration of ram, launching without a gpu and drive, adjusting the pressure of the cooler, etc. The only things I haven't tested are the cpu/mobo/ram on a different system because I just don't have one.

So realistically when we will get confirmation of the supers. based on my expectation i doubt the 5070 or 5070 TI super are real, i expect the line up to be 5060 super and 5080 super as yields are too high to even make regular 5070 TI's anymore. A 24GB VRAM 5080 super seems incredibly tempting especially if the 6080 while faster may be gimped vram wise to 20 GB so the 5080 super may be better for running AI

Former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden says he doesn’t think Sony should stop bringing PlayStation games to PC.

Layden explained that the strategy was never just about making more money.
He said many PC players “weren’t going to buy the hardware anyway,” so releasing games on PC gave Sony a chance to reach people who were never going to buy a PlayStation console.

He also criticized people who say PC releases hurt PlayStation, saying:

“I love how everyone online is a marketing/business analyst and darn near a part-time psychologist that understands the ins and outs of consumer spending and purchasing habits better than billion-dollar organizations.”

Warned you about this years ago.

It's why I've been the biggest $AMD bull for the last year.

$NVDA simply does not have the tech to build chiplet based GPU's.

$AMD is comfortably making 2nm 8-die GPUs.

$NVDA is failing at 3nm 4-die GPUs.

Nvidia can only make a 3nm 2-die GPU and it's not even a true chiplet design. They're gluing 2 monolithic chips together.

$AMD literally toppled $intel back in the day with the same playbook.

Intel couldn't work out how to do multi core CPU's. They went heavy into single thread performance.

$AMD about to topple another giant.

Japan is investing 11.5 billion yen (around $71 million) in AI to speed up anime and manga translations.

The plan will help companies like Crunchyroll, Shueisha, Bandai Namco, Kodansha, and Square Enix use AI tools to release official translations much faster for global fans.

They want to shorten the wait between Japanese release and official English version, reducing reliance on pirate sites and fan translations.
