Not in my experience. Project management usually plays with their phones all day in between emailing customers. They always want to be as far removed from the software engineers as possible.

"Project manager" means something different at every company. I'm a project manager, but I don't manage any projects - I'm more of a people manager.

Job hoppers almost always win.
Staying in a company long term can be good for stability and routine, but it's really never good for any metric of growth.

NTA but QA is a completely redundant middleman. Your customers can UAT during alpha or on launch and the dev team should be able to cherry pick a hotfix on the same day.
All QA does is add paperwork and friction to product delivery. Nobody cares about a perfect product. What matters is you jump into the market first.
If Claude can QA at even 30% the effectiveness of a human QA then it's already a huge win for devs. Take your non technical asses out of tech.

a new build for my team takes 30 hours. I don't mean including looking at code and debugging and whatever else, I mean pressing the "build" button until it is done. Then, deployment takes at least a month to rollout everywhere. If we just did no QA and waited for the customers to tell us all their problems we would lose all customers

I have 13 YOE and am not getting hired for shit. People theorize too much about why they arent getting employed. It's as simple as there being no financial incentive to hire right now so nobody is doing it. Corpos figured out how to get money by projecting growth via fake job listings that the government permits because it makes current admin look good. Kind of like when Sony releases some third-person cinematic snoydad simulator on the Playstation Niggers that nobody buys yet is highly profitable because Blackrock pays them (and Blackrock is connected to the money printers in ways we can't begin to explain within 4chan's character limit.) They figured out how to grow without any input from normal people. They also figured out how to ensure normal people never get pissed off enough to combat this.

Just wanted to share something positive today with everyone!
After being laid off in 2023 after Covid, I, like many of you, couldn't get another role no matter how many applications I sent. By the end of 2025 I had given up and was just bed rotting at my parents house. But to my surprise, today I received an official comeback offer with a range of 70-90K.
They put me in contact with my manager for a 1:1, and he said he’d love to have me back full-time! I was so happy but still a little scared till HR said his feedback was extremely positive and they offered 80K instead of 70K. I'm so happy to be back on track.

In theory pms are a force multiplier. It makes sense to have a person with technical aptitude who can centralize project information, including requirements, and be the point of contact for cross team communication in larger companies where a single project could be dependent on multiple different teams.
Obviously in practice we almost never see this happen. Like 9 out of 10 pms are phoning it in.
>>
>>109219174

The solution is obvious. You already have a Lead Engineer, and this is what they should be. The most experienced/balanced member of the team, naturally promoted, working as the interface that handles communications with upper management/stakeholders, as well as team planning. Good God we waste so much time/money in the corporate world.

Corpos stopped caring about employee retention. It used to be that you stuck w a corpo for 20+ years. Now the optimum growth strategy is job hopping every 2 years. Which is great because no one expects shit out of employees year 1, and year 2 you get to show how shit you are at your job then leave before being fired, rinse, repeat. White collar jobs are basically jew daycare now and have a tenuous connection to actual value and productivity.
>>
>>109219855
The boomer answer would be to keep finishing tasks before the deadline for no gain. Jobs are tailored for the lowest common denominator, actually excelling is bad. You have to do slightly better than what's minimally expected to not get fired. That's it.

Any security clearance fags in here? How does one go about getting one of these jobs, do you get the clearance first? What's the best one to get for broad coverage? Back when I was job searching a lot of major defense companies had entry level jobs that mentioned they'd sponsor a clearance if you got the job. This was prior to covid though so I imagine those aren't as common anymore. Other than that, government jobs or joining the military are probably your best bets
Honestly, a clearance can be a bit overrated. It's definitely good for job security, but I ended up switching to a job that's 100% WFH which doesn't require a clearance. Cleared work requires going into the office everyday in an area with no internet access, so having a wfh job is much more comfy by comparison even if it is less secure.

Hi
>>
>>109220847
Because 50+ year olds have hard times getting new jobs when they're laid off, because they have higher salary expectations than a greenhorn as a result of having experience, which is also why their last employer laid them off so line would go up. I'd be willing to bet it's just retarded zoomer shitposting that changed the affected age range down to mid-30s, and doesn't reflect reality.
>>
>>109221293

The bar is on the floor; I can become a master developer after I get into faang. For now I just need to be better at interviewing than the competition. Besides by amazon (fuck amazon) I've never been asked questions that were shockingly difficult in an interview. The issue is that there is a large breadth of topics to cover, and knowing enough about all of them to answer everything that gets thrown your way takes a lot of studying and persistence through trial and error. Maybe you can set up LRU cache in 35 minutes; but can you set up a debouncing sync layer as well? And bottom up DP over a binary tree? you guys should start learning about security. consider the current amount of insecure slop that will be generated by LLMs... a lot of shitty, insecure code that will flood the internet that needs to be audited.

Story time! I worked for a small credit union and we had the full corporate "agile" scrum setup. Anyways some VIP decides our internal sharepoint needs a home page with news. There's BI's, Project Managers, Designers, Architects, other senior managers all pulled into scrums to decide on things. Finally, my manager gives me the "epic". It's just a fucking empty page with a blog widget and some links. Takes like a day or two. I send it back. A week late its approved and live. The CEO sends a company wide email thanking the "internal network" team for their work. The VIP takes the project team (including my manager) to lunch at some steak house. I watch them leave and grab my mustard ham sammy.

The corporate world is fucked and I'm too utterly autistic to understand that world.

nta, but I just had a 5 hour interview for backend. database questions, architecture questions, web socket stuff, live coding leet codes, live coding apis. At the end my brain was just fucking melted and I get a "well let you know in two - three weeks".

but let me tell you the worst part... the worst part was the hr lady told me to study and prepare for live angular coding.... I was like oh thats strange even for backend? ... there was no typescript test... also THE COMPANY DOES NOT USE ANGULAR

Why even bother if I know they're going to waste my fucking time or try to get me to move to California for $140k?

>California for $140k
Thats like saying 200k in DC. That aint shit.
>>
35 years is not enough...
>>
>>109224580
And I'm only talking base salary which means I'll be struggling over there at $140k. What's the point of getting $300k+ TC if more than 50% is in RSUs in the most expensive area in the US? Though it is a confidence boost to have another hiring manager hand select me for all of 5 minutes.
>>
>>109224601
Even 4x to a 2 bed apartment they way they did it in college dorms with that pay barely eeks out a living if you still got college loans. Also no way people 5 years into their career will live like that again unless its Y Combinator/Startup shit.
>>
>>109224609
I still got like $40k in college loans so not that bad but I'm not going back to that. 13 YoE, did my startup dues, and I refuse to go back to that lifestyle. I'll entertain the hiring manager but I'm expecting a bullshit first round like last time from this particular FAGMAN.

I really doubt they're willing to satisfy my $230k minimum base salary. They can afford it but I'm sure they don't want to pay.
>>
>>109224647
>I still got like $40k
How much was the original? Also why not just dump cash into it now to save more on interest? I made less than 32k a year a long time ago and paid off that amount in both college & 21k new car loan within 6 years. Its not worth the lost money in interest to keep paying miniums.
>>
>>109224664
>How much?
$60k
>why not just dump cash into it now
Because I make more from the spread from investing/trading in the market long term than the interest I'm paying now which is like a mix interest of 4.5%. It really ain't bad and I'm in no rush to get it off of me. Though, I will be getting a car soon so that's gonna be like a $30k minus down payment loan on my record. I'm not looking forward to that.
>>
>>109224692
>interest of 4.5
Sure but total interest should also be accounted for. Then you need to account for money lost every month you make a payment that could instead be invested.
>>
>>109224700
I ran the numbers a while back and I'm satisfied with my choice. At the end, I should make a good amount over even if the spread gain is 0.5%. I'll take any edge.
>>
>>109224730
Well keep at it and make more money in your career so it actually matters.
