When I worked in the cellular industry no adults or even boomers wanted a smartphone that was advertised for $200 or less. Incorrect many people already have the plans that offer these phones. They basically forc you to upgrade your plan to get the best deals and people do that, no one's going to keep the old plan and not upgrade their phone this is how they get you. they don't offer contracts anymore but when you get the phone through them on the bill credits that's basically what it is but you can still pay it off early and there's no interest but I don't do that I just buy phones cash up I don't like locked phones. My little brother got $1,100 for a iPhone 12 pro when he upgraded to a iPhone 17 Pro Max from Verizon. There's no way he would have gotten that much money selling it privately and that's a good deal considering after taxes he only owed Verizon a little under $250. So carriers do have their advantages. Adults are all about budgeting their incomes so trust me there's a reason why these types of promos are popular they do really well with them.

Once again you don't understand what I'm explaining to and I'm not going to waste my time with this anymore. Free phones are available they only charge you tax for them here in the USA. Some carriers will only charge you the cost of the monthly plan and won't unlock the device until you pay at least 6 months for the service, cricket does this. After the 6 months you don't have to pay for the service anymore and the phone's completely unlocked and obviously the monthly amount that you paid for the service they're taking a small amount out to pay for the phone but you're only paying for the service and every carrier has this option available stop telling me things that I know are correct just take the L and be a grown up.

iPhone 17 Pro or Honor Magic V6?
current phone is Honor Magic6 Pro and I actually hate the chink software but the hardware is great, it's the only Android phone that has true 3D Face ID and thus can use it for banking apps etc., I was skeptical at first but it ended up being pretty much flawless and it's a dealbreaker thing now but it FOLDS DUDE

With the component price gouging, is it worth getting a new phone? I buy a new phone, switching between OEMs every 9 to 12 months and my current daily drivers are an iPhone 16e for work and a Fold 7 for my personal use. I hand my personal phones down to my kids and family and my eldest son is due to get the Fold but I'm not sure if I want to upgrade. I've owned various Sony phones but I won't be going that route, don't like the Pixel Tensor SOC that's 3 generations behind with shitty battery tech, Apple iOS is sub par barely usable, Samsung bootloaders are locked with little increase in power from the Fold 7 to the new Fold 8 and I don't want a Xiaomi or Motorola device which is ironic as the Motorola will probably be the best for custom ROM support. I'll might go OnePlus but what's the point; are there any new phones due out that will be worth the cash and have a meaningful increase in power and features over the current Fold 7?

The Chase mobile app said it's not going to be usable come the end of the month and I don't want to buy another phone if I can help it. It's an LG K92. 6 years old but it still runs great. Should I even bother looking into doing some shit to it to get a newer Android OS or should I just ditch it finally? Spent $200 when it came out, I have no idea on budget ones around the same price. If you made it this far on a budget phone from 2020 you really don't need that much. Look at eBay for a used Pixel 7 or 8/8a. Avoid the 7a because they had battery recalls. Still have like 5 years of updates and Google sells parts so they are fairly easy to repair. Pixels are a good used buy because they depreciate so quickly.
Anyway I agree with you, basically every phone after the S20 feels exactly the same. Punch hole display, boring design, cheap looking cameras, etc.
