I can only assume the shitty EMR stack treats the client/server software identically, and if it doesn't find a file association for docx/xlsx it goes and fucking grabs it. Eh windows office software is kinda very fucking overrated and the majority of office managers who pay for that shit don't even know why or if they need it.

Not too many people who went for a Linux environment for their business since everybody uses Windows and normals don't like learning new things. Other than that, LibreOffice will do 99% of what the average person really wants in an office suite, but when something goes wrong, management will blame YOU, the IT guy, first instead of Microsoft.
