I understand wanting comparability and all that but git is fucking horrid as a result. Every day I am shocked at the reminder that this is the industry standard tool. All it does is cause data lose via bugs and waste time with workflow conventions which are always made more difficult because there's 80 different ways to accomplish the same thing because they can not break script compatibility. Fuckin weak shit man. It's legitimately easier to just share a directory and do semantic versioning. Even in teams.I'd rather they write a replacement than a rewrite of the same tool.

If you watch the old Google talk Linus gave trying to market Git for Google to use internally, he mentioned how there were some good proprietary version control systems that he preferred to use when he still had a day job but couldn't use for the Linux kernel project because those tools were paid.Git was never supposed to be better or even as good as those proprietary solutions.
