just drag and drop all your documents from explorer
or wifi transfer with fx file manager to a shared folder
if you care about your app layout, nova launcher
it'll keep placeholders in the same places for any app you dont have installed with links to the playstore
>>
>>109255873
Here's a s26 they made catching fire even though it was new and sealed in the box. Certainly the highest quality manufacturer comes from there.

Don't use Nova as it's jacked to the tits with telemetry now since the original dev left and the software was taken over by a Swedish advertising company. Backup all your files either to a PC or I use a USB-C stick. Since the likes of Titanium Backup are now discontinued, you'll have to download your contacts as a .vcf from the app. Messaging and apps can be more problematic. If you are going to install mindthegapps then use Google account backup and reinstall everything after the custom ROM installation. That or use one of the apps on the store to backup SMS.

I miss the good old days where we could use custom recovery, Nandroid backups and even duel boot two different OS' on a mobile phone but those days are gone, phones are now all locked down and the scene is dead.

Is it worth installing custom ROMs anymore?
>>
>>109256193
>Is it worth installing custom ROMs anymore?
Depends what you want. Want to have guaranteed compatibility with all apps and games? Custom ROMs might hamper this. Balatro won't install/run on a non-Google certified OS, same with some banking apps. Hell, the McDonalds app is known to be a problem, while many banking apps work just fine. Guess "security" for ordering burgers is more important than your bank account.
>>
>>109256193
>Is it worth installing custom ROMs anymore?
Absolutely. Much better privacy and you get the latest security patches even on devices that are 6 yrs old. I run de-Googled Sonys with LineageOS. Most of my apps are from F-Droid. There's Aurora Store and microG for closed-source apps. I have no ads whatsoever. The phone came out in 2021 yet it runs as fast as a current flagship. I have an SDCard slot and an audio jack for my IEMs.
I would not buy a phone that does not support LineageOS, e/OS or GrapheneOS. I'd have wanted GrapheneOS but too many Pixel phones have serious and dangerous battery problems. And I want an audio jack.

>Is it worth installing custom ROMs anymore?
Depends, is your device old? Roms are designed for very antiquated devices desperately trying to remain functional. Perfect for people who can't upgrade to newer smartphones.
>>
Should I buy an iPhone 17 Pro or an iPhone 17 Pro Max? I can't decide on the screen size. In theory I would prefer the larger battery size and the ability to use it one handed, but these two goals are almost the opposites of each other, and I'm afraid that a phone may end up feeling like a heavy brick

c-can I call on you bwos for help? I need to get a new phone because mine is getting too old and a lot of apps I use have stopped supporting android 9. I play a few games on my phone like teamfight tactics and league of legends. So I want something that can run those pretty good. These are my options right now. I don't want to spend too much money, but it seems like there's a sweet spot with deals...but maybe I'm just being tricked into wanting more than i need
>refurbished samsung galaxy s23 in excellent condition for 260 dollars and keep my 10 dollars a month tello plan with minimal data
>switch to boost mobile and get unlimited data and a google pixel 10a for 160 dollars with a 25 dollars a month plan
>switch to mint mobile and get a samsung galaxy s26 with a year of unlimited bundled for 580 dollars
I can't make a choice bwos. The more money I save the better... But it almost seems the I get the best value if I just dropped way more money than I should. is the s23 enough for gaming and app support for awhile? Thank you for your time
>>
>>109256484

I would recommend CalyxOS, IodeOS, LineageOS, or GrapheneOS. Better than stock imo. Especially with the changes Google's been making to Android and how they've been slowly locking the device down. Running a custom ROM is like actually owning your phone again instead of Google owning it.
>>
>>109256484
S23 is a stop gap, will stop being supported in two years. Leaving you vulnerable to further security issues. But! Your games will continue to run despite the device being EOL for some time.

10a is a good option if you want a clean, vanilla OS and the ability to install custom ROMs. GrapheneOS is the main one right now, but more will support it over time. So, hopefully even after 5 years of official support, you can extend the longevity with Lineage or /e/OS or something similar. See >>109256310 for some of the caveats with custom ROMs.

S26 will be more performant in games than the previous two mentioned, and had 5 years of official support. But you're stuck with OneUI (I personally don't like it) and cannot install a custom ROM when support ends.

S25 FE is in the same boat as the S26, with worse performance in games due to the Exynos chipset and associated drivers.
>>
>>109256193
Custom ROM is a backup plan in case that your banking apps requiring much recent Android, or that you want newer Android features that should have been fucking there, like battery charge threshold and battery charge cycle meter.
>>
>>109250559

Anyone?
>>
>>109256689
Thank you so much bwo, the security updates will be important i imagine, so that crosses off the s23 i think. hmmm
>cheapest is the pixel 10a, with the worst gaming performance of the choices
>galaxy s25 FE with a bit better gaming, but not as good as other galaxy phones
>s26 which is more than I wanted to spend, but games will run perfectly
I think the next step for me is to look up gaming performance on each since that is the most important aspect to me. I'll have to see just how much faster in gaming each is and if it's worth the money. My current phone is a razer phone 1, so i might even be happy with even the cheapest upgrade performance boost.
>>
>>109255985

I'm not neglecting anything. I'm not even the person you were replying to. I just don't want the CCP having access to my entire identity. Sorry if that upsets you. I'm not buying the chink garbage retarded shill. You can mitigate the data collection in the US by not using cloud services, using encrypted messaging services like signal, and running a custom ROM without gapps. They'll still get you on metadata transmitted over cellular (and triangulated location data) but that's about it. Maybe use your brain for five seconds. The spyware isn't literally on your phone it's on the network side. All the cloud services and network itself.

Am I cooked if I want an SD card slot and a nice, pretty OLED screen? Ever since my Samsung s20+ died i've noticed the technology to put a SD card slot in a phone as mysteriously vanished. Right around the same time all the smart phone manufacturers invested in cloud storage.

I don't want to use fucking cloud storage. Is my only option a Sony Xperia? Or should I just bite the bullet and get a Samsung 1tb s26?

>>109256600
I wouldn't buy Pixel phones now or Motorola in the future so GOS isn't an option and besides, I don't like it. I'd go the LOS route without gapps but I miss messing around with Paranoid Android.
>>109256700
Yes, agreed but we're now in an era where soon we won't even be able to run unsigned software, never mind unlock the bootloader, not for security or so they claim, but to force everyone in the great phone churn, planned obselence route that OEM's want; your old phone doesn't work now so buy a new phone.
>>
>>109256951
>Pegasus
Probably affects Chinese phones just as much as it does Samsung phones
>AppCloud
Can be disabled on Samsung phones and I think it can be removed with adb
>Wrong country pal
While I strongly disagree with some of the actions of Israel, I think I am more worried about the idea of using a Chinese smartphone than a non-Chinese smartphone with a small amount of Israeli software (which can be disabled and likely removed). We should remember that China is now a very powerful country, second only to the US in most respects. Also China is clearly ambitious and aggressive in their foreign policy. So I am worried about the possibility of the Chinese government spying on and/or collecting data from Chinese smartphones.

I'm basically in the same boat. Looked at my storage and I'm currently using about 300 gb on my S10e, SD card included.
Hate the idea of not being able to expand as needed (and prefer to keep photos/movies on the SD card anyway but 1tb should be plenty for even abnormal people.
Likely ~500 gb would be enough unless you download every single gacha game known to man.

Questions for the class: I think I'm going to go with an S24 or S25. Ultras seem a bit too big for my liking and Sony doesn't work in the US very well/I don't want to ever worry about whether my god damn phone will work.
Are S-pens actually useful? Do S25s get hot? Heard the S26 has a better cooling solution and I'd like for one of my phones ton not get supersuper hot.

For the same reason iOS IS ALREADY a walled garden, for the lowest common denominator. There are far more grandmas on Android that keeping them safe from malware is seen as a greater good even if it results in inconveniencing power users who may have to go through a few hoops to permanently enable GUI installation of unverified apps.

Might as well ask why macOS (yes, I mean macOS not iOS) is a walled garden because out of the box you have to go through some steps with warnings to install arbitrary ("unverified") programs.

Not an issue for custom ROMs of course, something that doesn't exist on iOS devices. You will accept (NSA Partner) Apple's arbitrary and capricious restrictions on what you can do with your device. You will accept mandatory age verification when it rolls out. You have no other choice other than to quit iPhone.

As long as the AI companies keep buying nobody who can do anything truly cares. You often can't buy it even if you're willing to pay the inflated costs because someone is willing to. It's propping up the South Korean economy at a time when they're otherwise struggling due to the dogshit state of the world. If they are forced to pay the fine they will but they will change nothing after. You wouldn't either if you were in their position.

idk where else to ask this since everywhere else presumes only someone who stole a phone would be trying to break into one
I recently dug out my old Droid Turbo to get some photos off it (mostly family + my dog who is dead now) and I can't remember the password. I figured it would ask me to do some kind of recovery, but after entering it wrong a few times it's straight up telling me that it will DELETE ALL MY FILES if I keep getting it wrong.
Is there any way around this? Should I just take the phone to a data recovery place?
I already called the service provider and they won't help me because the phone is too old. It also doesn't show up on google.com/android/find/ while my new phone that uses the same account does.

bwos, I'm getting either a galaxy s23 or s24. Can someone help me decide? My main use is gaming.
>s23 is 250 dollars
>s24 is 340 dollars
>both in excellent condition
From what i'm reading and youtube reviews i'm watching, the s23 will meet all my gaming needs. And If I go for the s24, it kind of hits me from a value aspect... I fall into the trap of being able to spend 60 dollars more for the s26 new if I prepay for a year of another provider's unlimited plan and switch to them. But even then, I really don't need unlimited data every month I think... Are the security updates from samsung really that important? I know that the s23 will stop getting them in a year. But I read that google give updates anyways. And I figure since the s23 is pretty cheap, that upgrading a few years down the line is okay if I really need to. How's my reasoning so far bwos? and what do you think I should do? Thank you and I think you're all very cute today
>>
>>109273897
For gaming I'd go with a Asus ROG 9 or a Fold 4 with a Snapdragon Gen 1+ for emulator compatibility. I'm playing Guild Wars Reforged on a Fold 7 and that with Stardew Valley are pretty comfy

Alright bwos, I come to you in your infinite wisdom to help me on choosing my next phone. My ancient LG G8s ThinQ is giving up the ghost after 6 years of use.
Preferably I'd like a phone with SD slot cause I don't want to pay those greedy fucks for cloud storage, headphone jack is optional.
I'm looking at budget/midrange options such as:
>Motorola G86
>Pixel 9a (bit more expensive but I've heard good things about it)

I don't game on my phone, just regular everyday stuff, though I like taking the occasional picture and video when I go to shows or of interesting buildings. Any suggestions?

is the iphone 17e worth the 180 dollars over the 16e? I don't use my phone for much of anything so if it's an upgrade i'd never notice then there's no point in getting the more expensive phone. so leaning towards the cheaper model. that $180 could go to buying a new overpriced ssd for my pc that I need or something else that I might get more use out of. but if its a noticeable upgrade even for a casual like me it's no big deal to spend a little more.

Main issues are with its age. The battery, unless it has been replaced by a legitimate OEM one recently, is going to be depleted and it already is small to begin with. Thankfully official parts should be available until at least 2029/2030.

iOS27 is the last OS update that the 13 series will likely see, but security patches will continue for perhaps as long as parts are available perhaps even longer.

A 60Hz display might be an issue for some, I'm not too worried about this as I use 60Hz monitors on my desktop and its not a problem. High refresh rate is nice to have, not essential for me.

Bigger issue: the lightning port. Such a pain in the ass especially if you have multiple devices to charge and everything else is Type C. Wireless charging can somewhat help with this.
>>
>>109279170

I'm a poorfag. If I had to choose between the two should I get the S25 FE or the Pixel 10?
>>
>>109281642
Avoid the Pixel 10. Shitty SOC causing stuttery camera / lagging software and poor battery tech. Even though it has an Exynos chip, it's almost 2 generations in front of the Tensor.
>>
>>109281707
*S25 FE

So if I interpreted your correction correctly, I should get the Pixel 10?

Sony stuck to their guns and kept making phones like it was 2012, for better and for worse, so it retains the jack if you're interested, but they ask the prettiest of premiums for the privilege.

Apparently the S25 FE does have a better SoC and does better in CPU and GPU benchmarks:

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=14042&idPhone2=13979

However, the Pixel 10 is a smaller phone, which some people might prefer, and it has 12 GB of RAM while the Samsung only has 8 GB, and also the Pixel 10 seems to be cheaper.

So I guess it depends on what you're after. Also I had a look and both phones look like they'll get security updates for another 6 years, until 2032 (August for the Pixel 10 and September for the Samsung).

Has anyone here already upgraded to 17?
I just got the notification and wondering how much worse it gets regarding LLM shit. I don't want that.
Can I somehow disable the version upgrade but still enable security updates?

Thanks for the serious response. I am mostly using my phone as a Youtube and internet device, no gaming or high performance stuff. And phone calls of course. I have been on an S20 FE for 6 years by now, so it might be a familiarity bonus for staying on Samsung.

Because their mobile department folded into their electronic department that makes headphone and camera since 2021. You know? The electronic department that sells $7000 camera and $600 headphone?

Is there a reliable way to block ads on iOS? I downloaded a thing for Safari but it only works some of the time and I prefer FireFox anyway. Wouldn't mind blocking all ads

The whole point of iOS is that they can force you to look at ads.

Need a phone recommendation ASAP. Current S23+ has green lines on it already after about only 3 years of use. Dont feel like sending my phone away for repair and plus it costs like $400 for a proper repair. I'm looking for something with simialr specs and between $500-800
