My T470 has been ordered, can't wait to use this 15w beast its gonna be killer compared to my latitude E6400.

I know its shit but it was $85 compared to way over $200 for a 480 and I have an i7 8700 as the daily

Is a $115 difference really that meaningful for your finances?

i also have some fujitsu life book with a 10th gen i5, 16gb of ram and 512gb ssd. it's arguably better than the thinkpad since it's only 14 inch and has a replaceable battery but the keyboard doesn't work under linux so it sucks ass.

asking for kernel settins for t480, again

P14s Gen 5 AMD. I posted the picture a few threads ago.
Definitely goes above and beyond expectation because the hinges haven't fall off yet, unlike my ASUS laptop.
>>
>>109330895
Its about the ratio of price to performance. I'm not gonna pay 300 fuckin dollars compared to $85 for 60% more performance, yoy get to a point where the T480 is so much money for something that is a secondary computer for me, that as well get something new, modern Ryzen laptop wipes the fuckin floor with 14nm shit and has newer technologies, cause keep in mind baby and 8th Gen imtl are the same tech, nothing has changed except tyzrn coming out and making them add cores which could've been there the whole time, also the money saved is gonna buy me 32gb of ram and a 1tb M.2, which if T480 prices come to earth for such an old ass computer, will work in that machine too.
>>
>>109332072
>that as well get something new,
That you may as well get something much newer*
>>
I want to buy a Thinkpad but I don't much about them, I have 200$ to buy a T480 in ebay but I have seen T14 Gen 2 with more advanced Intel CPU and even with AMD in the same prices, which one should I buy and why? Sorry if is a stupid question but I don't know much about this topic, blessed day for you all
>>
>>109332072
>and 8th Gen imtl are the same tech
Kaby and 8th Gen are the same tech, im leaving work but this phone can suck my ass
>>
>>109332134
Get the newer technology, anon. these new business laptops are damn near as cucked as an apple laptop, they don't even have a socketed chip, so get the newest thing possible.
>>
>>109332134
Kek, damn near every fucking laptop ever can be found complete for a reasonable price, but T480 thinkpads be like WHITE SCREEN BLOTCHES, HEAVY WEAR, NO RAM NO SSD NO OS NO CHARGER, $90-$120
>>
>>109332134
If you can get a T14 G2 AMD for $200 there's little reason to buy anything older (basically just ME/PSP paranoia)
>>
>>109332034
Is there a big difference between the p14s amd and the T14 amd?
Does yours come with a higher wattage chip?
>>
>>109330989
I own multiple of them, actually.
>>
>>109334250
They're still based as shit, I have the T9550 Penryn chip and it plays 1080p30 on YouTube just fine for how old it is, I'm only getting a T470 because I want stuff 32GB of RAM to run a Windows 7 VM in the background just like on the main computer, other than that Core 2 duo still surprisingly good at Chromebook type usage.

Don't care Anon, I'm not paying $250-$299 for a good condition one that is complete (rare) or $120 for one that's literally stripped, got a fuckin screen issue or something that basically makes it a parts machine.

How are those? Any chance the batteries aren't cooked? Slightly tempted to toss a bill down for a basic laptop to fuck around with. Currently do my mobile shit posting from a 2012 model (non retina) MBP lmao.

My mother has a similar specced HP tho and that thing is a pile of shit.
>>
>>109335043
>250.72 USD
Kek I told you they're ridiculous, and i'm not saying the 15w quad cores don't fuck, but it's an 8 year old computer that for some reason is inflated beyond belief if you want a chinkpad.
>>
>>109335085
I personally think Latitudes are worth it even if the batteries are cooked, my chinkpad is in lovely condition with cooked batteries and it's worth it because so many business laptops are beat to fuck.

it was the first result
~200+ bux gets you basically a 16gb machine. you can make an offer and pay a little bit less.
most are refurbished so you don't have to fix anything on them and an i5 or i7
you also get to return them here for 30 days i think if something isn't as described
>>
>>109335154
you can sometimes make an offer
>>
>>109335154
I'm sure they're legit and the machine would do well, but that's just a fuck ton, primarily because it is technically the cheapest Windows 11 laptop, but that shouldn't blow the price up, I remember back in the day the 7-8 year old Thinkpads could run Windows 8.1 no prob and eventually 10, but that didn't mean the value of this computer should be so high.

I have a 5411 with the H series cpu. It's great. I upgraded from my 5400 and it's identical, keyboard, screen, ports. The newer ones swap the barrel charger for another USB -C. The silver ones have paint that falls off pretty badly, but they're good quality. I have heard the 11th gen H series ones overheat, mine doesn't get above 90 even when I'm gaming. I got my wife a 5510 for her school and the battery lasts 6-8 hours. They're common enough you can get new batteries or fish out the ones with good battery health
>>
>>109335256
i hope it's because people are trying out linux
>>
>>109335875
I wish, but a lot of people are spending big money because they want to run that whack ass Windows 11, and it's a $250-$300 laptop shipped to your home with 16GB of RAM for much less than a computer from best buy, so to the normies it may make sense because social media told them chinkpads are good, but to guys like us who know what the fuck it up, it's a horrendous deal.
>>
>>109330997
I use a T480 as my daily driver, and a T460 to mess around with.

Obviously buy whatever newest model with the best specs you can afford. How retarded are you that you can't pass that judgement on your own? There's nothing le based about a T480; Libreboot is a meme, and so is non-soldered RAM (for the majority of use-cases, especially so on a laptop). Quad-core is perfectly usable in present day--competent, unlike how Ivy Bridge is still "perfectly usable"--but it'd be retarded to gimp your computing power just for the sake of following a meme.

Use an LLM next time to supplement your lack of brain cells.
>>109335256
The prices for 8th-gen ThinkPads--T480 in particular--are inflated well beyond their actual value because it's a MEME. I could wipe by ass on an iPod after having eaten chili and corn, and it'd still fetch a pretty good price.

8GB, same amount as the X200 it replaced.
>>
>>109337309
i guess my 8th gen i5 is never obsolete then
>>
>>109337314
What do you use it for? How much of a bottleneck is 8GB of RAM for you? I can't imagine using anything less than 16.
>>
>>109337493
I use Xubuntu and rarely go above 4GB in everyday usage.
