I genuinely dont understand the mindset of this boardI'm a mid-level dev (mostly TS/React, TC around $160k) and litterally every single engineer at my company just uses an M2 or M3 macbookeverything just works right out of the boxand i always see people here obsessing over writing everything in C or Rust to save like 10mbs of memoryor complainging about "bloat" 1. RAM is litterally dirtcheap nowndays if youre not a poorfag2. my company deploys our desktop apps in Electron because developer time and time-to-market is vastly more important than saving "precious" mbs of memoryIf your computer can't handle running a basic modern webapp its time to upgrade your 15 year old thinkpad
>>1093724321. You are in an invory tower, consider yourself lucky.2. It's literally just good engineering to not waste ram pointlessly. Some people actually care about engineering well.

And now we have at least 5 Chromium instances that run to show your sloppy react framework SaaS apps which eats 5GB of memory for no reason./thread

1. Not everyone lives in US and tech is a luxury, not a commodity in most of the world. Saying that, most laptops ship with 16GB(nowadays even 8GB) of soldered ram with no option to upgrade it2. I'm not using your electron "app", because most likely it has nothing of value3. It can, but if you open a couple of electron apps and a browser, you're fucked. On top of that electron apps are slow. But I acknoledge that on mobile there is no decent way to write crossplatform apps other than react native so I dont care if ts is used there
>>109374099>It literally saves 500MBs of memory.big whoop. in return it takes 10x the time to develop.
>>109374153>500mb to 10mb ratio is 50x>10x to 1x ratio is 10x.Doesn't add up. Seems like a skill issue anon.

What is it with tranime posters in this board always having shitty bait opinions?
>>109372432If that's the case then your company doesn't make anything particularly interesting. Shit like react or flutter is fine for a thin client, and we do use those things for such purposes at my org, but if you actually need to process a significant amount of data in real time you're gonna need C++. Or Rust or whatever. My current company does a lot of very heavy AV signal processing and my previous one was running massive amounts of simulated entities for military simulations. In both companies we were pushing the limits of what you could do with multiple max spec rack mount servers.

>>109381701i mean, his retarded hyperbole aside, 32GB of DDR5 (2x16GB) last year was ~$80-$100, and right now it's $375-$460, so that's a not insignificant price increase. definitely not the highest of all time, or the last 30 years - i mean fuck, a 'portable computer' in 1989 cost about $26,000 in today's money and a laptop in 1996 was $2000-$4000, or about $4000-$8000 in today's money. so i think what he meant was 'since SSDs became ubiquitous'.
