I've been using a 500gb Crucial MX500 for 8 years now, CrystalDiskInfo says it's been powered on for 1 year and 120 days which is literally completely impossible to be correct, and total host writes of ~83,000GB. I don't understand how a heatsink works. Like, the hotness of the CPU gets transferred to the heatsink? How is that even possible? Even if that's the case, the fans are only refrigerating the heatsink so why does the CPU stop getting hotter? It doesn't make sense.

The heat sink has a lower total heat capacity than the CPU and needs less energy to go up 1F, 1C or 1K in temps so it can absorb the heat really efficiently and with it's huge surface area from it's metal heatsink, is able to get rid of the heat much more quickly than you would by having a fan blow the CPU directly

'm running a Lian Li Lancool 216 and the stock 140mm rear exhaust fan is failing. When the system powers on, the fan twitches, attempts to spin, and stops. However, if I blow air into the blades to give it a manual push, it overcomes the initial resistance and continues to run normally.

Is this a definitive sign of a failing bearing that can no longer overcome static friction, or could it be an issue with the fan's internal start-up capacitor/motor? I've effectively ruled out the motherboard PWM header, as the fan maintains its speed once manually started.

Assuming the hardware is dead, I need to source a replacement. I know the Lancool 216 rear mount takes a standard 140mm fan (25mm thickness). Since it's an unobstructed exhaust, I am prioritizing high airflow over static pressure.

What are the current recommendations for a reliable 140mm exhaust fan?

B850 or x870 mobo? Thinking of an am5 place holder cpu and then 4-5 years down the line plop in a more advanced one, if I even need it.
Looking at the tomahawk boards but b850 I was looking at just went up $30 so it makes it less attractive as a deal. Is x870 better at future proofing? All research points to almost no but the price difference between both seems barely different now. I also saw an aorus b850 for $180 is there a significant quality drop from the tomahawk series? x970e will most probably be the same asmedia chipset as x870e and x670e.
Maybe if Zen 7 turns out to be AM5, which seems likely, there will be finally a new chipset.
So no need to purchase something expansive now, if you plan to upgrade to higher tier MB later. It's likely that newer MBs will come with features that might not be available on current gen motherboards.

Can't we uhhhh solve OLED's shortcomings by increasing monitor thickness to make room for large heatsinks? Surely people are tired of sleek anorexic monitors at this point anyway

the thing with x870 and x870e is that they add USB 4 support which take away 4 PCIe 5 lanes unless you can disable it. Check mobomaps.com and compare the boards but from what I can see the difference between B850 Tomahawk Max Wifi (not the regular) and X870 Tomehawk isn't that big other than latter having USB 4 you can turn off. USB layout and additional features might be better on the x870 but you'd need to check.

Welp, ASRock might have claimed another 9800x3D. Booted up yesterday after the computer froze and was unable to hit POST.
