I run local models via llama.cpp on a 9070 XT. Linux. Currently trying to vibe code in vs codium via Continue. Continue allows agents write access to files in the workspace folder, but I can't figure out how to allow them to execute commands in codium's terminal (fish shell in my case) or reach the web. Read access to system files is also forbidden, but allowing access to a subset would be nice (read source for certain installed programs).

The model/agent can reach the web through llama.cpp's browser interface, but I'm struggling to get Continue to use any web tools or execute terminal commands (e.g. build an appropriate conda/pyenv environment for this project).

Ask: what do? I want the llm to be able to reach out to the web and execute terminal commands from within whichever editor I'm using. Do I ditch codium? Try Cline instead of Continue? I use databricks at work but am new to configuring my own codeslave robot. I don't want to bother with using notebook cells to alter the environment, would rather just let the agent use a terminal with my confirmation.

Stretch asks: what models and context sizes should I try for codegen with 16GB vram? Currently using Qwopus 9B 8 bit. Which RAGs should I configure? Vulkan vs rocm on a 9070 XT (Vulkan reads like the clear winner for consumer AMD hardware as of today)? Any and all help/suggestions appreciated. If I can get the software toolchain side of things working as I'd like, I'll purchase better hardware; stating this in case it changes prescriptions/advice.

Thanks in advance, anon.

I want to use llm to analyze a repo to see if its malicious. Downloaded claude, made an account. Tried to start claude in the repo directory and it says I need to trust the folder, and that
Claude Code'll be able to read, edit, and execute files here

This defeats the entire purpose of the exercise. Am I just retarded. Why does it need to execute any files in the repo? I just want it to read and analyze.

This has never been a good argument and it isn't today either. Anyways, either claude code is just a piece of shit (didn't say anything about the model itself) or I'm using it wrong. Given the brief dev history of the project (devs dont know how to render UI, devs rewrote bun just because, etc etc) I'm guess the harness is just written by vibe monkeys like you.

I don't even know what I would do with a new model. Like GPT-6 isn't going to find some magic refactor, or some insane performance improvement. I forget the timeline exactly but there was a while where it was pretty much pointless to use Opus. It would run down usage quotas about as fast as Fable does now. This was in the early days of Claude Code before they even allowed subscription plan usage and it was all api pricing.

Yes new BD are possible, just changing characters, locations, is easy, but it would have to re-use movement from an existing BD, the movement comes from .scenerid so I need to build tooling for that, I just got basic Blender scene authoring from a manifest, next is the .scenerid export

plenty of stories about trying to control this sort of behavior through manual prompting spectacularly backfiring. I don't know enough about how plan mode does its thing to know if its any better.

I don't know how models work really, so I also dont understand why harnesses cant just limit all operations to read only in a strict way. Really these harnesses should be operating as separate users on the system. Then I can just set permissions to RO on the project folder in a programmatic way and claude should never be able to do shit in there outside of read stuff
>>
>>109379446
a read-only harness isn’t very useful
that said, macOS has built-in sandboxing for these kinds of things and I’m pretty sure both frontier labs use it
then again this sandbox might be busted now because nobody cares about it much
>>
I like to use workbooks. Jupyter workbooks. I like being able to test things, easily, interactively. I want to start working in a way that the agent keeps the documentation as a type of interactive notebook to keep track of what everything does, make sure I understand, and always know how to use things properly if I want to use them elsewhere. I do look at the code, but this is a way of working that I understand and I feel if I do this, I'll be able to stay on top of things better.

Jupyter notebooks are a mess. I have had bad experience with agents corrupting them. Codex has Jupyter skills that work, but it seems to be a lot of work due to the nature of the Jupyter notebooks (huge json mess).

Does anyone work in a similar way and have found something that works better with LLMs? I am aware of Marimo, I see a lot of shilling for Quarto. Anyone does something like this and has something they find works?

I'm committing normally, didn't know about checkpointing, I'll look into it. It's still annoying if it corrupts the notebooks a high percentage of the time. Basically, there are two issues, if I have a notebook open and it's modified, there seems to be out out of sync thing that happens where my version decouples from the one that the agent changed, so I have to either save and lose what the agent did or close/reopen without saving to see the agent's changes, but lose whatever I was doing myself.

And once in a while it just messes up and corrupts the structure (happens less often though since I use Gemini less these days).

Flattened PDF. When it's just images and you need to OCR to get any usable text. Current tools either make it possible to export as markdown or similar to give flowing text that doesn't look like the initial document, or make something that looks visually the same, but with absolutely insane formatting decisions (textboxes are used to replicate text centering or page numbers placement, etc.)
>>
Thinking on getting a 3D printer so I can basically vibe real objects into existence
>>
>>109380658
yeah i can see that being useful but also quite difficult to do, even if you had an LLM doing the heavy lifting
>>
>>109380691
It is difficult. Best approach I can see is to use one tool for the OCR, and have something else strictly in charge of replicating the formatting and inserting the text in the right places, but haven't been able to yet and with the number of tool calls and evaluate-fix rounds if using generic LLMs, am not sure it would be economically viable. I still need it though.

why don't we have a slow mode instead
>>
>>109381766
Has there been anything to suggest it would cost more than Fast mode already does? It's more likely to make Fast mode actually fast imo.
Personally I don't need it, and I can't particularly see any real use case from an individual perspective, let's say you get the code in 5s instead of 20s, tests still need to run or the code needs to be executed or whatever before iteration/fixes etc.
If anything, the provider being able to serve more token/s should enable them to lower pricing as their fleet capacity is increased.

I never found this stat despite asking a few time, but I sometimes see anons posting screenshots saying stuff like
>You would've saved 168 hours last week using /fast mode
I don't remember the exact numbers, but they were relatively high.
For me, I use fast mode when there is one critical feature blocking a lot of other stuff. Once I can parallelize my work again, I rarely use it.
>>
>>109381916
yep, opus 5 on high/medium is comfy enough for daily driving.
>>
>>109381917
Yeah one of those was me, it said I could have saved 168 hours over a week, 168 hours is a week though, must include subagent usage but still my point is that it wouldn't have actually saved that much time because writing the code is a relatively small part of producing a project, at least in my case the majority of that week will have been compilation, running tests, etc.

Here, facts not feelings.
Across a selection of 5 of my projects writing code is on average 9.4% of total agent hours.
"Writing code" measures the time between the preceding logged event and emission of an edit-bearing response (apply_patch, including wrapped calls).
"Other model work" covers reasoning, code inspection, planning, and composing messages.
Parallel agents count separately, so these are agent-hours rather than elapsed clock hours. Interrupted turns are included through their last recorded event, making those contributions lower bounds.

I could break down "other model work" further into reasoning, code reads, planning, etc. because that would determine how much faster reasoning would affect the total agent hours, but I think my point stands, you could have all the code in 0.1ms but you'd still be waiting for tools and execution
>>
>>109381941
I would've assumed that they already filter out all the tool calls, tests and so on from that statistic, as fast mode won't actually make that faster. But maybe they don't, just so people are more inclined to use the mode.

let's do a simple back of the napkin calculation

Gemma 4 31b via API is $0.1 input / $0.350 output per 1M tokens (we take the upper bound to make it conservative)

On an H100 Gemma 4 31b achieves 1260 tokens / sec max
You can rent a H100 for $2/h spot price (1 hour = 4.5M tokens)
You can buy a H100 for around $30k at 700W (cheap energy: $0.1/kwh) (1 hour = 4.5M tokens), you still have some overhead but anyway

That means if you are fully utilizing the GPU for 100 bn tokens (100k x 1M) / 200 bn tokens (1000k x 1M) [~5 years]
>via API: $35k / $70k
>via renting: $45k / $90k
>via buying: $32k / $35k (that's 10 year of 24/7 usage, so it's probably more expensive)

It's less of a margin that I expected

This kind of provision made sense when Meta did it for Llama, since it was a relatively small model and the figures were generous enough, which let people use the models to build an ecosystem while preventing their direct competitors of simply latching onto it, or at least that seemed to be the point.

I fail to see how anyone with under 20 million US dollars of aggregate *revenue* would see it as viable to use a 2.8 trillion parameter model in any serious manner though. This provision seems closer to open for non commercial use only, with any commercial use requiring an agreement with Moonshot.

There's a shift from NVIDIA GPUs towards specialized ASICs that bundle compute and unified memory in one massive package, with energy efficiency wins as well because a good chunk of the auxiliary infrastructure like switch fabrics is absorbed by that specialized device, and data doesn't have to move around as much. Long-term memory should be doable with some tech already.
You could add tools and put your AI gf into a harness with some access to read and write a personal wiki about you and her, that allows her to query it if you talk about something. That's pretty simple to do without much effort

Naturally she should also inject memories at certain which should also be possible.

A simple way to start would be to take each of your sessions and let an agent update your personal wiki that you can restart with that information. You let her search through the latest changes and most important pages before you start

thinking you have bigger limits on copex plans due le humble good guy twitter man spam announcing resets is the biggest fucking retard filter that was ever deployed in marketing. do you copex turds not realize that a reset also automatically postpones your next reset by 7 days? So unless you have always 100% maxed out weekly limits during resets, they are actually REDUCING your usage with this preemtive reset.
>claude scenario
Monday (1st) reset to 0% weekly. Tuesday (2nd) hit 25% weekly.
Friday (5th) hit 100% weekly.
Saturday Sunday vibebreak.
Next Monday (8th) reset to 0% weekly.
Tuesday (9th) hit 25% weekly.
Friday (12th) hit 100% weekly.
Total usage in 12 days = 200%
>copex scenario
Monday (1st) reset to 0% weekly. Tuesday (2nd) hit 25% weekly.
Wednesday *le humble good guy twitter man announces reset to 0% weekly*
Thursday (4th) hit 25%
Sunday (7th) hit 100% weekly.
Monday Tuesday vibebreak
Next Wednesday (10th) reset to 0% weekly.
Thursday (11th) hit 25% weekly.
Friday (12th) hit 50% weekly.
Total usage in 12 days = 175%

not even mentioning how some copex users notice that usage limits seem to fill faster after resets and that gpt5.6-sol eats more tokens than fable for inferior outputs (just like opus5) which is makes gpt5.6-sol an Opus5 worse than on paper (generally speaking)

If the elite can have automated abundance, they do not need smelly people. There is a point where money doesn't work anymore, they literally have everything, and there's no point with even having people consume, because there's nothing more to gain, they have infinite robot slaves. Better in what way? OpenRouter you use as much as you need and can afford. OpenCode Go doesn't give you that. You can have it pull from your balance when you've used up your usage limits, but it's coming in at full price, a price which OpenRouter can probably beat. It also serves far fewer models in total. OpenCode Go is worth having but there's no reason to restrict yourself to one provider. I have OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenCode Go subs, and I use OpenRouter.

well i plan on only using glm5.2 for now. So i was just either wondering to use openrouter with a cheap provider or use opencode because it claims 4300 requests/month (i doubt it would give me that much). I've used about 120 requests already on openrouter and its eaten about $12, if i stuck to only using a cheap provider it wouldve probably been maybe $9. I'm just thinking of terms of value because im a cheapskate. since openrouter has already taken $12 for ~120 requests, i feel like i couldve gotten 10x the number of requests for the same amount of money with opencode. Even if it means I have to wait every 5 hours, i wouldnt mind.

Again, use both, don't limit yourself to one. Pay the $10/mo for OpenCode Go. If you use it all up in a given month, use OpenRouter for the remainder as it'll likely be a better value than topping-up OpenCode Go. When you've used up your usage with OpenCode Go, putting more money in doesn't get you that cheap rate, you're not paying for more usage you're just throwing dollars at it just like you would be over at OpenRouter but at a higher price than you'll get with OpenRouter.
