I currently have a 43" 60hz 4k ips monitor and a 3090
I would like to replace it with something around that size but high refresh rate and gsync/freesync preferably
I don't mind an ultrawide as long as it's like 45" or bigger
Only thing is I have an IKEA Alex desk so the stand has to be able to work around the alex's cable drawer, so no centered stands

it's cheaper to outsource to Indians and Malaysians to make their games in UE5 than to hire skilled programmers to make and maintain custom purpose-built game engines.

Its great aside from the usual flashing bios fuckery that's utter aids to deal with. Maybe look for a newer release mobo in the same range, i hear a new range is coming out for all the platforms, other anons in here would be more knowledgable.

I have that mobo, first one was DOA where i couldn't flash the bios, neither could the pc store guy. Replacement one came and i was able to, although i had to try 3 diff usb sticks first.

Finished by i7-4970K 32GB DDr3 and 1080Ti SC2 , z87 mpower and coolermaster case build, it's got a thermalright cooler and a fractal design 650 watt PSU. 2 SSDs and and DVD RW/. Runs like a dream, 60 FPS on high defaults on cyberpunk 2077, days gone on high is in the 100s, runs lm studio fine Has win 10 rn, next is an extra 500 GB MSATA and a wifi bluetooth card (using a shit tplink wifi USB rn). Two fans in the frond, one in the rear.

Total cost, 75 bucks for the motherboard. No ARGB shit but the mpower board has lights (including a nice two digit debugging display and lit buttons and logo) and I left the leds on the 1080 on red. CPU temps are in the 30s and GPU in the 40s. Novabench buts it at 1873. I'm not even going to bother overclocking it, it's fine and lovely,

delighted with it., that was a nice build.

I thought we had escaped the Brown and Bloom Era.
>>
>>109417257
samefag 1080ti SC2 is evga 11GB, nice card. Two of the case fans were the collermasters that came in it and one is an artic, thermalright assasin king with five heat pipes, one CPU fan on its pushing air straight back through it to the rear case fan. GPU and CPU paste is artic and doing fine. Really saisfing build, i recommend doing a similar wih a 1080ti and i7-4090k holds up absolutely fine for anything you might care about. Zero practical difference between it and a DDR5 intel 14th gen with a 5060

It's actually kind of insane. This is the RAM I got after a 6000 corsair kit shit itself. (the only PC parts I've had fail where it legitimately wasn't user error were corsair).

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/ThdG3C/patriot-viper-venom-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr5-7200-cl34-memory-pvv532g720c34k

480 euro - 640 euros. Absolute insanity. That's a 5x - 6x increase in price. I paid roughly 100gbp on amazon. How is that even actually possible?

On that topic has anyone tried the new AMD gpu driver. I'm kind of cautious. I've had like 3 weeks with 1 timeout.
>>
>>109417313
i dunno anon, I have a 14th gen i5 box with 16GB DDR5 and a 500 GB M2 Nvme I go for peanuts a while ago (300 bucks at at n auction witha few moniors0. I'ts brand new and I threw a 5060 in it and it has no soul. I just like 4th gen inel and 1080s, built a couple of 4970s low watt machines with 1030s and SSDs to use on my solar and water turbine power system as well. I think tech may have peaked there in reality. Have a few NAS on spinning rust too. The i7-4790 started as a use these parts build but it's perfectly fine doing LMStudio stuff with the same small models that are used on 16GB cads and I don;t really care about games ha muc but tried the ones I have for benching, like warhammer three, cyberpunk, days gone, doom 2016, battlefield one etc and it runs them all fine on high fine. It's really interesting to go back and find out that pracically we have not really moved on at all in a decade dispite numbers. You could build a similar machine just for the price of 32GB of DDR5 (spoiler, it is worth doing, yes)
>>
>>109417313
the main difference is games at 100fps vs games at 200fps and maybe unnoticably faster token generation my llms. The thing is I really don't notice any difference with games at 200fps vs 100fps and if an LLM is generating faster than reading speed it is fine either way.
i-4790 +1080ti with 32gb 1600 and ssds is absolutely fine, usable for everything with no lags or issues I can find.
>>
>>109417360
here
i7-4790k dunno 50-80 bucks
32 gb ddr3 1600 dunno 40 bucks
650 watt psu dunno 50 bucks
coolermaster or other case 50-70 bucks
thermalright cooler 20-30 bucks
paste 10 bucks
1080ti dunno 150-200 bucks maybe
few extra case fans 20 bucks
couple of 1tb ssds dunno 100 bucks
dvd rw 20 bucks
some sata cables 10 bucks
z87 motherboard dunno 50-100 bucks

so 550-
500-800 or so depending on what you have lying around and how cheap you find stuff, yeah at 500 or so less than the cost of just the 32GB of DDR5

I know it will run almost pretty much anything you want. But isn't it crazy that a CPU from 12 years ago can still play games and function at all. It's like expecting a 2002 computer to be able to do 2014 things. Which just... Doesn't work. The first x64 CPU wasn't even released.

Just goes to show how shit has stagnated. Up until a few years ago I built an aliexpress X99 with a xeon E5 2630v3 and played games for about a year at 2.40Ghz hahahahahaha.

yeah that's it dude you get it, and lmstudio is fine basically equal to an i5-14000 and 16gb ddr5 and a 5060 maybe better even, have to bench them on the same models sometime the last decade is just a feverdream tech wise when it comes down to practical use. Honesly I mostly play old rts on win xp and win 7 builds but it runs all the games anyone sane might care about like cyberpunk on high just fine too. Dunno man strange times we are living in. In the end the only think left was the marketing bods fake numbers and hype
>>
>>109417543
the i7-4090k is 4 base and 4.4 single thread probably could oc it to 4,6 but given it's already fine and not even maxing out on anything why bother? Anyhow I'm saying bald truth having just had these two machines on and comparing them, literally no point in getting a i5 14400 ddr5 nvme and 5060 if you can get an i7-4090k 32gb SSD and a 1080ti. Both are pretty much the same or one is a bit better in some way you won't even notice without a perf overlay open, even for lmstudio gank

it's all gud, enjoy your shit either way.

I have the perfect setup where my second screen is the TV. Most of the time I'm on the main monitor which is 32" 4k 144Hz IPS and the TV is 42" 4k 120Hz OLED which is further away. The HDMI is actually connected to the AV AMP and full 5.1.2 sound.

Most of the time the TV is just used for TV but when I'm exercising and watching music videos or playing a some games I flip over to the TV.

Best of both worlds. No babying an OLED monitor for static stuff and enjoying the beauty of one when it's appropriate.

I built my PC like a year and a half ago. A few months ago, my computer turned off and wouldn't turn back on. After some troubleshooting I swapped the PSU for an identical new PSU, and it worked. Now I just got home and it's off and won't turn back on. I'm assuming if I change the PSU it will work, but I'm still scared. I don't think the PSU is underpowered or anything... I remember it being a pretty good one and it was fine for the PC I had. I have a 4080 super, 7800x3d, and like 32gb of ram. I don't recall the motherboard, it's some tomahawk but I know it's equal to the rest of the parts. The psu is a Corsair RM1000x atx3.1. it should definitely be good for my PC. I did the thing where you unplug, hold the button for 30 secs and try again. I heard a super tiny click sound from my PSU. Any ideas? I can run to best buy maybe to get another one today but this is now a recurring thing. Something has to be wrong.

Just finished jury rigging an Arctic P12 fan inside a Seasonic Focus GX-750 PSU.
>right after warranty ended the fan got loud as fuck with an annoying rubbing sound inside the bearing

severely hard cap your clock speed to something super low. Hardcap your voltage to something low as well. Then slowly keep raising the speed and stress testing until you BSOD. That or you can set a CPU usage percent upper limit in your Windows power plan.

Personally I have an i9-9900k with hyperthreading disabled (so it's only 8 physical cores), limited to 5.0GHz all core on boost. Turning off hyperthreading actually saves quite a bit of power as well. Also makes it so the physical cores and hyper threaded cores aren't fighting for cache.

Yes, just make sure your PSU can support it and run layer splitting, You may have to fuck around a little bit with llama-ccp to make it work properly as some wrappers have trouble running multi-gpus properly

>What kind of draw are you seeing at the wall with that setup?
My PC idle power consumption is kind of all over the place but with 2x 144HZ monitors, CPU, RTX 3080 GPU, 3 SSDs (1 NVME, 2 SATA) and 8 high capacity HDDs (SATA), I idle around 150w. I have the disks set to go to sleep after 2 min of inactivity to save more.

Undervolt + power limit the CPU.
Downclock the maximum turbo boost by -100 or -200 MHz. These last few hundred MHz are the more power inefficient V/F points.
Do all three, you'd probably retain more than 85% of stock performance with a 100W power limit.

New 48s are 1400, 32in 4k monitors go for 800. Also brightness numbers I posted are for g6 which is more expensive. They are at not on par at refresh rates, 240 is more and 360hz 32in panel will be out soon. I dont have use case for 500nit sdr for a pc, if its 300 nits without brightness limiting it is ok by me but I have blinds and dont take my monitor outside. And saying that 4k tv has more space than 4k monitor is nonsense. There are 8m pixels, difference is only how far you are viewing them from. Btw i tried to use tv as a monitor, but despite using mount, having big desk and checking whole math about ppd, fov etc., I couldnt find the position that was comfortable for me. If you like it, good for you.

You should keep the card undervolted and running at under 900mV.
You want to dampen the intensity of the transient which degrade the DrMOS.
OCing is fine with an undervolt. I used to daily a 3080 12GB boosting around 1800 MHz @ 850mV.
1900 MHz boost could be stable @ 900mV given thermal & power limits aren't triggered.

You should set a 280~300W power limit to the 3090 and keep it undervolted (running between 800~900mV) to reduce the intensity of their transient spikes.
You'll retain near stock performance and improve its lifespan.
The frogposter in the pic used to own a 3090 Aorus Master with overspecced power stages, it wasn't enough to prevent its death.
The coomer threw away that 3090 and replaced it with a 4090, which has a better voltage controller and a safer power delivery layout.

Not great value for money as a gaming machine. A $650 5070 is going to outpreform that 3090 and a 12600k is already better than the i9. 5080 is fine for those requirements, maybe wait for other people's input as well. I neglected to mention ray tracing, which can ravage any GPU. The price difference between it and the 5090 is ludicrous and probably not really worth it if any of this is what you want.
>AI-generated frames sound strange, but if it offers a better experience and the AI is not noticeable, then sure.
Upscaling looks fine these days, but the higher you go with frame generation the more input lag you get since it's tied to the actual base rate, although that only gets a problem when you go idiot-tier (4x or whatever). Honestly I'd read up on any of this before spending money, there's quite a lot of info available for beginners.

Samsung has the premium name tag tax on it plus, tbf, it's Samsung. They control their own NAND, their own controller, their own firmware, their own drivers, their own software package. Something like a 2TB Samsung 9100 Pro is TLC based NAND and includes a dedicated DRAM cache. The drives you're comparing it to from Crucial, WD, or Silicon Power for instance are usually DRAM-less and using QLC based NAND. Not to mention they're often an older or slower PCIe standard.

For your use case, literally just buy the cheapest SSD. Unless your gf is doing crazy write intensive workstation kind of work, a generic PCIe 4.0 QLC no DRAM NVME SSD will be perfectly fine. I have a 2TB SATA based QLC SSD exclusively as a game installation drive.

not anon, but if you rented a 48gb GPU, it would cost 25 cents per hour (2x3090).
and it would cost $2000 if you ran it for an entire year.
it's well known that renting the whole GPU is very cost-ineffective, because you are not even using the full power of the GPU, unlike a service that hosts hundreds of user sessions at once with one GPU.
If you just want a provider that hosts a specific LLM, it would take a very, very long time for the cost of the GPU to pay itself off, even if we assume in 4 years 48gb GPU prices increase by 4-10x.
Because it's priced per million of tokens, a 48gb model would cost in the range of cents per million input/output tokens, but since many people use these providers for programming, they need the best of the best models, like glm / kimi which requires 500gb+ of vram for an 8bit quant (it's trained with 4tb+ of vram in fp32 format). So these models are VERY expensive, costing 4$ per million of input tokens (with a lower cost for the cache), so you can easily rack up like $100-$1000 in a month if you make hundreds of queries a day with a completely full context. But if your context is only like a few thousand tokens / you don't let agents run wild unattended, it's very cheap.

not a pixel shift shit
you can disable tons of shit that is supposed to dim an fuck up the image already this is just one more thing that is bad
but yes you are correct it's the retarded manufacturers trying to prolong the warranty window beyond 3 years so they don't have to replace peoples monitors why we got forced refreshes and shit like that

literally makes shit unusable

like I cannot even imagine people who came up with that shit

can you imagine your oled phone randomly taking a break for 6 minutes because it needs a refresh while you try to call 911 because you are dying?

oled laptops, tvs

nothing behaves like this

only for gaymers

again, its not all manufacturers

samsung monitor division does not do this, not lg

asus i dont think does it

and the worst thing about it all its entirely placebo made up dog shit, nothing demands you need to run a pixel refresh at set hours to prevent burn in

you could aswell do it way later

its completely made up shit

msi and other manufacturers raised the forced hours to 24 hours to alleviate this shit, remember when I called it out long before when it was 16 hours by default? I said it was shit, it's still shit though but you might dodge it more now, or not ,depending on

but again the implementation is completely random on what monitor specifically manufacturer have no standard evenm between monitors on the same manufacturer the shit is different, firmwares, everything

its just abhorrent

makes a nigga wanna use a shit lcd way more

Sure it's like 50 bucks more now, but a 5070Ti is kinda useless for local AI unless you like to run Qwen3.5-9B
>>
>>109422092
>now imagine
yea but your example was bad. The majority of people probably doesn't even know that trick as it allows you to use even someone else smartphone to call SOS if shit hits the fan. My ASUS monitor only pixel cleans if I turn it off or prompt it manually but I also never used it for 8 hours in a row as I turn off my PC when I go away for more than 10 minutes.
>>
>>109422108
I don't want to AI, I just wanted a gaming upgrade from 3060 Ti to 5070 Ti and I am very happy with the upgrade.
Plus, furtureproofed myself with the 16GB of VRAM.

>but I also never used it for 8 hours in a row
You gotta run it for 25 hours straight to unlock the truth of the pixel refresh these day sadly
and I will dare remind you again that it does not even matter if a buggy implementation "only run it for 8 hours" because if the pixel refresh does not trigger or only triggers during 16-24 hour loops the counter does not reset, thus meaning it will trigger at random hours if it's a really bad implementation regardless if you run 8 hours
but as I said asus probably has a better implementation

literally all budget oleds were rendered completely fucked due to bad firmware implementations, it would be better to never ever run unless done manually, or simply if the monitor is actually just turned off
that would solve everything
but apparenttly that is too hard to do so where we are

now im stuck in oled purgatory hell talking about this forever

There is not a card alive that is good for 4k gaming. No, upscaling with dlss/fsr/xess doesn't count. No, playing at garbage settings doesn't count. No, playing only old as dirt games that a card from 10 years ago could do 4k with doesn't count. 4k is a meme and will be for the foreseeable future. Go with 1440p.
>>
>>109422150
Pixel refresh is the one where it goes through every colour? The pixel cleaning I have turns the monitor off for a few minutes to clear static elements from what I understand. It has some driver issues on 240 and 270 hz or in multi monitor setups sadly.
>>

should i buy an oled? they only come in 27 inch tho and i unironically hate anything bigger than 24 inches

ASUS has an upcoming 25" 1080p OLED with high hz if you really want a small OLED but I doubt it will be cheap.
>>

The best upgrade is upcoming 360hz 32" 4k glossy qd oled offerings
But theres some older 240hz that may get reduced prices due to better stuff being out there

Buy the TCL 25G64 that was mentioned earlier if you don't want a 27" monitor.
It supposedly has an IPS panel, and you can set it to run like a backlit IPS if you're not happy with the local dimming.

Prices for OLED monitors have been going down, with decent 1440p 240/280Hz options costing less than $400.
You can get a nice 32" 4K OLED for around $650~800 during sales.
Only other stuff worth talking about is discounted/bundled CPUs (discussed to death), and peripherals like mouse & keyboards.

Whatever random indieslop or 20 year old game you're going to pretend you care about could probably do 4k on a 1030. The discussion is about actual usecases real hardware purchases are based around.

Stop being a poorfag and get a 5K screen for productivity, just use 2x integer scale to use your precious 1440p resolution for gay men.

Fellas, I bought a new pc but I will keep on using my old drives. The issue is that I am currently using intel, and the new one is amd. Do I need to uninstall anything to not have issues, or just plugging in the old drives in the new build will work just as fine, as long as I ghet the new drives?

Different people have different tastes, I much prefer the overall sharpness of UHD over any framerate advantage 1440p might have.

$580 for the ROG XG32UCDS seem to be an all time-low. 165Hz is fine given the 4K resolution.
Newegg is desperate for cash.

That's likely the sound of the relay inside the PSU, this is normal.
Get your CPU replaced, and update the board's BIOS to the latest stable version.

It wasn't reasonable to ask NVIDIA engineers to grind a game for hours just to reproduce a bug that appears "after extended gameplay sessions" (no lifeing unfinished PoE 2).
GGG only reproduced the bug on very specific hardware configurations, and in a timely manner after overhauling their testing infrastructure (creating replay system).
If a bug takes 18 months to isolate, the telemetry and diagnostic tooling definitely weren't where they needed to be on day one.

This affects multiple games not just POE2. Nvidia shader heap size is too low and so is their shader cache limit size. AMD doesn't have these issues. Nvidia has had these driver issues for years now.

>Unfinished PoE 2
This isn't a compelling list of games you think it is.
It's on the game studios to set up consistently reproducible steps that prove the display driver developers needs to tweak their app.
Square Enix is technically incompetent, and it took GGG nearly two years to set up a compelling debugging process (that was only reproduced in very specific PC hardware configurations).
RX 7000 cards are still causes crashes on Helldivers btw, and only those cards.

there being less people in india or africa isn't going to make housing near my relatives any less expensive, it's not going to make the highways less crowded, nor it going to bring back the birds that were common in my childhood but are scarce now. also sure, indians are much less taxing on the environment, if every human used as little fuel and electricity and ate as little meat as the average indian currently does then the world would be prettier.
