I have a OnePlus 12R and have had it for almost 2 years. No complaints, but I've been wanting a foldable since the original Galaxy Z Fold 1, now Apple is about to release one, Samsung just released the Fold 8 and the urge to buy a foldable is higher now than it ever has been for me.

But I have a few hard rules:

1) Spend no more than $600 (ideally, $450-500 max)
2) The phone needs to last me a minimum of 3 years, 4 preferred

I had a guy wanting to sell me a Galaxy Z Fold 5 for $375 on FB Marketplace and almost pulled the trigger but the Z Fold 5 has the same CPU as my OnePlus 12R so why am I spending $375 for a phone that isn't a performance boost at all and only has a year or two of support updates left?

Right now I can buy a brand new OG Pixel Fold on woot for $450 but why? It's old as shit.

I know my budget is fucking me here, is a Galaxy Z Fold 6 capable of lasting me 3 or 4 years if I buy one soon? The last thing I want is a laggy foldable phone a year from now.

I had a guy on FB Marketplace try to sell me his Galaxy Z Fold 7 for $800 cash + my OnePlus 12R, I almost did it but the sticker shock of paying $800 and giving up my phone didn't make me feel like I was getting a deal.

Are there any foldables you guys think could be in my $600 price range that could last me 3-4 years?

As you can see, I use phones for a long time and I intend to use whatever new one I get for a very long time as well. Reliability obviously matters to me, but I don't mind spending on a phone given that I might use it for 8+ years again. I'm thinking of buying something high-end, but haven't been able to decide on what. I'm basically thinking to buy a S26 Ultra because it seems to have the longest software support guarantee. I know it's not the very fastest but I think software support will matter more to me, I have other devices to play video games and shit on. The desktop feature Samsung has also looks neat, though I'm not sure I'd actually use it.

Anyone have any advice for me? Should I just pull the trigger on a S26U, or is there some better option I've missed? I'm also thinking I should get a move on and buy something before the RAM+NAND pricing and shit hits phones hard (or harder).

I boughtened the Fold 8 Ultra and I'm enjoying it so far. First foldable, coming from my S24 Ultra. Performance seems fine but I haven't done anything truly compute-intensive with it yet, battery feels good so far. I'm falling for the foldable gimmick, but I also like the outer screen being 21:9. The inner screen does have a crease after using it for a couple of days but I haven't seen an Oppo Find N6 in person to compare it against.
