I wanted to swap the cooler of this old AM4 CPU I have, but it's been using the same stock cooler since it was installed 7 years ago. After googling a bit and reading all these stories about AM4 coolers getting stuck and yanking out the CPU together with them, it's safe to assume that both parts have completely fused at this point isn't it. I don't think heating the CPU up with benchmarks and twisting it slowly is going to do shit.

I was thinking about buying a fractal small form to save space only to find out the mid-atx cases are apparently the best for cooling, which is what I really need since I live in a dusty room and cooling is hard.
Is it possible to fit a micro-atx into a mid-tower atx or is it specifically talking about motherboard form factors?
>>
>>109485300
>Is it possible to fit a micro-atx into a mid-tower atx
yes, i've done that several times before.
>>
>>109485308
With mid-towers I don't have to worry about the components fitting like for the small form factors right? I want to upgrade gpu and maybe my cpu later but maybe my build isn't worth upgrading anymore? I'm eventually going to build a completely separate computer to host an AI on it, so maybe I should just keep what I have for now and save for the AI model that is going to rape my wallet?

I honestly really like Windows but they have shit the bed 1 too many times for me to trust them and get back into bed with them agian. My biggest pet peeve is with Outlook, when I click "close all windows" it closes a quarter of them then gives up, so I have to tell it to close all windows again, and then it deletes another quarter and gives up. I understand that its closing them due to some sort of relation or internal logic, maybe by time of last access but when I select "close all windows" I actually mean CLOSE. ALL. WINDOWS!!!
>>
>>109485229
i just went to check. wayland support is an option in the aur pkgbuild for vulkan icd loader. i would have to run through them all again to find the one where it isnt. maybe mesa or vulkan-radeon.

Looking at some B550 boards and there seems to different configurations on PCIe/M.2/SATA lanes. Sometimes the second M.2 slot disables one PCIe, sometimes two SATA ports. Is this just a different configuration or is there a greater implication on performance?

Probably true, I used them back in the haswell days. I used one kit of Corsair’s DDR shortly and sold it for faster crucial kit. Totally subjective experience and desu I did return a set of Corsair ram on eBay since it failed to boot.

Dumb idea to upgrade to a 5080 from a 6900xt? 5090 are too far gone in price and I feel next gen isn’t actually going to be any better at least price:performance wise. 6080 will be 2k+ i’m almost certain. Now I have the money so I've decided to go for a RGBless build.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tsLQR4
Thoughts? I live in France and I can get all of this for 3900€
I also wonder if I should get a 5080 but they're about 500/700€ more and my budget is 4K.
32" main monitor and the 27" will be vertical although I wonder if 27" is too big or not? (also are two 4K monitors overkill? I've been using 1080p screens since forever and I wanted to get something nice for myself)
As for the case I was first thinking about the P602 from Asus but I heard the big 200mm fans are loud and I wanted a system that is quieter than the average PC and this one has 6 Noctua fans that are included and I kinda like the look.
>>
>>109486577
>I heard the big 200mm fans are loud
The larger the fan, the quieter they are for the same cubic feet/minute, provided they are PWM which you can rate limit.
>>
>>109486688
Yeah that make sense but from the reviews I've read there are a lot of complains about sound and also the quality of the fans Asus but in so I thought going for the Noctua one seems to be a more logical decision.

Depends on what games you wanna play. Every game has different specs

So... what games do you want to play to justify a 5090?

Just whatever I currently have a 3080ti. Most Indie games and older titles run fine at 4k, but my last two recent games were No Rest for the Wicked and Halo Campaign Evolved and I could really feel my 3080ti struggling. Made me feel like it was time.

UE5 games run like crap even if you have a 5090. It's an engine issue not a hardware issue. You're better off playing Halo PC.

Same as above I could always change it if needed right? Or does the 9850X3D need an AIO to not burn?
With that I can get a 5080 and the price will be 4.1k which kinda fits my budget.

It's a psychological stuff, you wouldn't understand. You just know that you are not playing on the highest quality, you are missing "bits" of the game and eventually it'll drive you crazy and you'll buy the more powerful card, so you can tell the local kids you are playing X game on max graphics with playable FPS.

It's less about desirable lane allocations and more about options.
As an example you can get 2x 16x slots that when populated will be 8x lanes each which seems bad but for some people they want 2 GPUs or more SSDs connected directly to the CPU.
Of course if only one GPU is in it gets the full 16x but the option to have 2 slots be 8x/8x requires additional hardware.

Lower end boards cannot change their allocations much if at all.

Halo CE had bullet casings looked like real metal shells, didn't disappear quickly but remained on the ground for a long time (nothing cooler to see tons of bullet shells scattered everywhere after a fire fight), and watching them realistically roll down hills.

>Halo 2 E3 2002
https://youtu.be/luhXojiSVC0?si=rv2sa7B1ooGvffi-

Halo 2 was originally going to use a Doom 3 esque lighting system that was fully dynamic, and featured inky stencil shadows. They had to drop it midway through development, and fall back to an updated version of CE's renderer. They didn't redo the assets, so the final game just looks really flat.

Specular on bsp is all kinds of broken in Halo 2, different ways depending on version of the game. Bungie disabled it on many surfaces because of this. In MCC it has a broken directional computation, in Vista it just doesn't work at all

Halo 2's maps were so big the original Xbox couldn't handle it. Containment is the biggest map in Halo 2

The problem is aside from a very small number of complete retards no one is paying these prices or will. You won't sell it for what you think because the buyers are not there at these prices. Those that are spending $$$ will spend on new. Small ads in my region are filled with delusional retards trying to sell DDR5 for high prices, the listings are there for months, no one is biting or will. Used is a big enough risk, massive on anything that comes from a potential overclocker or crap like 5090s and 5080s and 5070s, intel 14th gen i7s and i9s and AMDs all of which have had serious problems. No one wants overclocked DDr5 that has been run hot for a grand. You are fooling yourself. Many such cases. It's always the same with people who know what they have got, selling and getting the money once it is over a few hundred dollars goes up exponentially in difficulty.

They absolutely were showing off.
Early 00s was the most radical growth in consumer tech and the market was booming and people had all kinds of wild ideas about the future and this was reflected in the designs.
What matters the most is that the industry was full of people who were extremely skilled and got where they are due to autism and passion.
There were no online tutorials anywhere to learn 3D and it was convoluted as shit to use.
You had to be genuinely some kind of an autismo to learn this stuff, same goes for art in general. There was a retarded high skill level in the industry.
It also helps that women were hot back then and it was embraced by society in general. Female designs back then looked good by default.

Hot take, all the games that anyone will ever need have already been made and no one wants or needs more at this point particularly in the demographics that have money to spend because both originality and innovation are stagnant and the returns in graphical and quadio quality have become so trivial and minor there is no compulsion to look. Shit from five years ago looks much the same as shit from ten years ago and from 15 years ago, All the FPSs and RTSs and platformers and shoot em ups and RPGs and sandboxes that anyone could ever want or care about have already been made and gaming is heading to a cyclical wipeout..

The fattest chick back then was way below modern average and that applies to basically every nation on earth.
The Y2K styles were extremely fuckable, not to mention hot goth girls were all over the place as that culture was really prevalent until about 2006.
Maybe you were in a wrong age category and somehow missed out on all of it, but from what I recall +30 year olds were fucking teenagers left and right back then.

These textures are gorgeous, name of the mod? Been playing it on PC for the first time and while mouse and keyboard trivialise some parts like the part in picrel where you cover Ashley as she raises the bridge, (normally that's quite frantic but I was literally sat waiting for new enemies to spawn because clicking on heads was too easy) other parts are actually more tough. (I nearly swapped to a controller for the fight in the barn against Mendez just because movement in a small space was too fiddly was WASD, took me way more tries than the usual one or two).

On topic, I fucking hate how a simple, plain black case is somehow now the luxury option and the cheap ones are all tacky as fuck with stupid glass windows and RGB.

>re4_tweaks 1.2.2

This fixes a lot of issues with RE4's UHD port. It was outsourced to Polish QLOC devs.

https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil4/mods/709?tab=posts

>RE4 GC was originally coded for 30FPS, with almost no code to adjust things for higher framerates. To add 60FPS for UHD version QLOC had hijacked the games "gameSpeed" value, setting it to "gameSpeed = 30 / framerate".

>eg. at 60FPS the gameSpeed would be set to 0.5x, but since we're running game at double the framerate, that'd allow things to look normal speed. Sadly not everything in the game made use of this speed variable, in the original GC release only a tiny amount of code ever checked it.

>QLOC updated some parts to start making use of it, but guess the developer in charge of it must have got bored, and a lot ended up missed.

>QLOC very rarely tried fixing those kinds of issues, so we have to find our own solutions for them.

>Resident Evil 4 UHD PC 60fps broke timers for the first village fight (supposed to last 6:30/7:30 depending on route taken / enemies killed on GC)

Airflow is overrated. As long as you have like net two 120mm fans in or out, it makes very little difference in temps.

All the new cases have AIO coolers at the intake for zoomer RGB slop reasons. Meaning you are blowing hot air into your case from the get go when the smart patrician water cooler guys knew from experience you want it on the outputs.

New cases all kind of suck. I liked the 2000-2010 all steel, weigh 20lb empty pc chassis. Still have my OG Corsair 550d. Will outlast me.

Hilarious that people are OC'ing DDR5 in the year of our lord 2026. Basically zero performance gains over 6000, and if you damage them the RAM makers are going to tell you to get fucked due to monopoly. They treat PC enthusiasts like time wasters to them because we are.

Basically the post office hates you because their main customers are junk mail buyers. Memory makers main customers are data center / big dick tech companies; you are just a pest to them.

I agree and am only doing it for the novelty. I've played this game on nearly every system it's been on except picrel and phone and I just like finding the differences. I'll probably install a bunch of mods and use a controller for a second playthrough, I enjoyed the Seamless HD mods for 1, 2 and 3.

Also, my takeaway from the Wii version is, on a console where the controller is basically a lightgun with a trigger, why would you not make the trigger the fire button in your game about over-the-shoulder 3D aiming? It's bugged me for years.

To add to that, I laugh at the story where memory makers told Google (!) to get fucked because they sold all their memory production to other companies.

If a memory maker is telling Google to hit the bricks, they are going to give zero shits about you frying your DDR5 by accident.

Aside: I actually now have a huge respect for Hynix, Samsung, Micron, etc. Some big shot Jeet from google flies in trying to bully himself to the front of the line, and you let him sit in the lobby for 30 minutes only to say fuck off and refuse to validate his parking. Based Koreans.

OP in this thread includes the components you should be getting if they're reasonably priced.
If you find cheaper memory, storage, or video card in your region, you take that into consideration & ask about the quality of those cheaper products here.

The French guy asking for build feedback is paying €458.90 for a Teamgroup 2x16GB CL30 6000MT/s kit.
It sounds nutty in isolation, but the cheapest 2x16GB DDR5 kit that is stocked in France already costs over €393 (4800MT/s CL40 Micron, €243.43 Kingston kit OOS).
Cheaper storage is usually going to be DRAMless with a worse TBW endurance rating, people should get these cheaper option if the rated endurance makes sense for them.

OP can't be deal hunting for every needs. You look for local discounts & bundles, ask here whether the stuff they're bundling is crap.

>7900XTX could do FSR4.1 since launch
FSR 4.x was designed to run at native FP8 capabilities, that's why RDNA4 cards experience the least execution cost.
7900 XTX continues to run any form of FSR4 with a performance penalty (over 10% slower than FSR3) because it's using the INT8 fallback model, which wasn't developed "since launch".

bwos, can you all help me decide on which monitor upgrade to get? Right now, I have an almost decade old alienware 1080p 240hz TN panel at 25 inches. I want to stay at this size since I sit really close to my screen and comfy this way. My two options are
>TCL 1080p 25 inch mini led 300hz for 150 dollars
>INNOCN 1440p 25 inch mini led 240hz for 270 dollars
I have a 5060ti 16gb and can currently run anything I want completely maxed out at around 90 fps, but sometimes i keep it capped at 60 because it feels just fine to me. The most demanding game I play is Stellar Blade. I usually am just playing visual novels and easy to run games though. A big question i have is, is text clarity going to improve a lot at 1440p? I sit really close to my monitor, so I assume so, but I've never tried 2k before...

That wasn't your point.
>7900XTX could do FSR4.1 since launch
This card and every RDNA3 garbage doesn't have the FP8 computing hardware to natively run FSR4.
When you take FSR4 into account, a 9070 XT will run faster than a 7900 XTX.
7900 XTX with FSR4.x is slower than its competing tiers of GeForce cards with DLSS4.x enabled.

>>109488669
Thanks for the response bwo. I feel like I'm content at 1080p, but do notice some softness to the text when i'm leaning in and really getting into what i'm reading. I suspect I sometimes get some additional eye strain because of it. Would the 1440p at 25 inches improve this by a lot you think? The 1080p is just really tempting too because of the price and I see really good reviews for it... but for any content that would be better at 1080p, my current monitor is still working fine, but I saw my sister's OLED recently and was really surprised by how good it looked. However, I read they have text clarity problems and I leave my monitor on all the time, so burn in would be an issue too. So I'm settling with a mini led.
>>
>>109488728
Buy the 1440p 25" monitor from a retailer with a reliable return policy and see for yourself.
Return the monitor if you feel the performance penalty isn't worth the text clarity improvement.

Next best option is to search for 32GB DDR4 modules with the same XMP/DOCP speed, timings, and voltages (ex. 3200MT/s 16-18-18-36 @ 1.35V).
Neither of these options will guarantee stability if you try to enable XMP/DOCP.

Only if it's broken not if the package is damaged.

But they basically destroyed the box to the point I wouldn't risk it.

>Marcus Lehto
Marcus Lehto apologized to 343 for not giving them any documentations on how to use Bungie's engine

>Halo 4 Lead Designer Scott Warner
Most people will never know what a huge accomplishment Halo 4 really was. The whole time we were building it we had to assemble a giant team of egos, working on crazy tech nobody could talk to the creators about, while the Internet kept telling us we would fail.

>Marcus Lehto
I feel horrible that you were handed our engine with absolutely no documentation.

Halo 4 not being a Sonic 2006 disaster is an achievement.

ironic how boot times went from 'hang on gotta spin up the hdd' to near instant to 'hang on gotta train the ram'
>>
>>109490194

>B-buh the bubble is all a scam! It's collusion!
>The RAM is all sitting in a warehouse and Chinks are going to undercut the prices by 80%!!

Yeah next year is going to be really fucking painful.
I'm going to get my RAM kit the instant I can afford it. The memory prices will do another 100% from here at minimum.
>>
>>109490573
while halo 4 may be a graphical marvel it is a really boring, bland, and uninspired game. 343 ruined the franchise.
>>
>>109490579
ram trainings happens once every few months so a nothingburger compared to the boot times back in the day.

So this monitor will release later this year or early next year by Samsung and other companies too. When it releases how will I know which brand of the panel I should buy? Whatever one looks like it has the best appearance for bezel/monitor stand shape. Will some have different DP/HDMI ports? Whatever one is the cheapest but still the same specs as the others?
>>
>>109490782
if I learned one thing with monitors is that they are announced, shown and then sometimes just disappear. The Pulsar monitors were originally shown in 2024 I think and then released 2026, some miniLED I had an eye on never released either. You'll have to wait and see maybe Samsung itself is more reliable with this kind of thing.
>>
>>109490782
4K at that size is so sheite, give us 5K with a 1440p dual mode, instead.
>>
>>109490782
>When it releases how will I know which brand of the panel I should buy?
ASUS ROG tends to have the better overall features with a higher premium.
Dell Alienware nearly matches ROG OLED specs, including Dolby Vision support.
MSI & Gigabyte OLED monitors doesn't support Dolby Vision, but these tend to be a bit ($100~200) cheaper.

>Will some have different DP/HDMI ports?
That's a premium panel, so hopefully not.
>>
>>109490782
>So this monitor will release later this year or early next year
This is an optimistic launch date btw, expect holidays '27 the soonest.
You might want to wait a few months after launch (first discounts) until some early firmware issues are sorted out.

even boomers feel that

you can also buy a 27" 1440p oled and run 24" emulation for better than 1080p clarity
or you can get a 32" and do the same but 24" or 27" emulation
or you can get the new 360hz 1440p 24" TN zowie if u wanna strobe
if the 1440p 360hz pulsars have emulation modes than they will also be better than native 1080p but since its IPS it wont be pure black borders in emulation mode
but these only work if u gonna spend more
if u gonna stay in povertyland, yea its over
but even if u can stretch to a modest 27" u can run native 1440p or just go up to 4k 240hz oleds or some shit like that

>>109489039
the new superstrike meme does not have Omron switches which is the curse
you can keep buying disposable mice but have a rotation of them every 8 months when they double click if they are that cheap

>>109489194
>worse ppi than 1440p
>worse active res than 27" 1440p in 24" emulation mode
>worse active res than 27" 4k in 24" emulatiion mode
a monitor for literally no one
but oh well
literally releasing a meme

>>109489432
any mechanical switch except omron
but mechanical switches are doa now so gotta go with the clickless superstrike x2 meme shit

>>109489904
if cpu limited games are stuttering due to dips
too bad u are assraped on mem prices so its over

>>109490489
didnt smell like plastic when my psu burned up

>>109490782
we need the msi active pixel refresh voltage management shit that does not need a shut off of the monitor to refresh pixels as it does it continually during use to get rid off makers pixel refresh incompetence once and for all, hopefuly it ships with that shit unless its exclusive to IJP monitors
all you know is if Samsung releases their variant of this it will have a matte coating and maybe a navigation button of plastic that falls apart in a week but have insane sales on the monitors from time to time in discounts

>>109490842
its an effective clarity increase due to v stripe subpixels tho
