Comp Engineering

Also why would you go for industrial? You do need a license to make that degree work and go to a ABET college.
>>
>>109492787
>why would you go for industrial
It's one of the very few options. I didn't even know what it was a few days ago, but it seems interesting at a high level. Seems to be a ton of jobs that come in just a bit lower than comp sci, but without the stress of worrying about if I would even be able to land a job after getting the degree - though I don't know shit about IE and that could just be me not knowing anything about that market at all. I do like programming, though.
>>
>>109492807
If they allow you to do both then might as well. Nothing wrong with industrial but you really have to get a PE license to make money from it.
>>
>>109492816
>PE license
I haven't even heard of this. Also looked it up and the college they're partnered with is ABET, but not for that specific program... rip
>>
>>109492831
>Partnerted college
God that sucks they do that to reduce costs. Yeah if its not ABET then don't get a degree with the word engineering from it.

https://www.abet.org/
https://ncees.org/exams/pe-exam/
>>
>>109492851
Apparently you don't? FYI industrial engineering is basically just making shit more efficient for businesses - logistics, product manufacturing, "systems", loss reduction, etc. It's not "real" engineering. Should still probably go with comp sci I guess.
>>
>>109492872
IDK that sounds like you would still be doing some aspect of engineering. What happens if you are tasked with designing the entire product ingest to output within a new factory space while you adhere to OSHA/State/Federal requirements?
Systems engineering you would still have to get a ABET accredited degree program for it to be worth something but it's pretty much the management side of engineering.

Too smart to relate to normalfags at all
Too smart for self professed smart people
Big fish in a small pond your entire life until you go to math olympiads where you get smoked by the actual math whizzes with 150+ IQ and/or run into the savants at your college

I’m in my late 20s and I’m still trying to square the circle of it. Statistically smarter than 98-99.9% of people but I feel like an idiot when I run into someone smarter than me. My cope is that everybody I’ve met who is smarter than me is completely autistic and completely lacking in all social skills while I can mask and act normal.

Will the industry ever go back to multiple recruiters emailing you daily to offer interviews like how it was in the 2010s or is sending out 1000 applications just to get an interview the new normal?

CS enrollments have only now started to stagnate. It'll take a decade until the junior pipeline has dried up and by then juniors won't even be needed.
>>
I got a backend dev (it's a fullstack since I need to deal with frontend also) job right after graduating in cs earning 1.5k/month as a trainee and can possibly go up to 3k in about a month, working 42.5h/week and 1.5h of commmute daily.
I've been here for about 2 months and not enjoying it, partially because of the low salary, but also because I've got no time outside of work on weekdays, and on weekends it's basically house chores, gym, church, a movie and it's monday again.
I'm currently thinking of quitting this job and start editing videos for yt since I could wfh and probably earn a bigger salary than what I'm making currently and what I will make in the near future. Do you guys think I'm just changing one problem for another?

the kicker is most of those masters degrees are probably fake too. i'm sure any attempt at verification just goes to some scam office in mumbai that says "yes maam degree is very real ramdeep is good student" and the retarded hr stacy doesn't think twice.

people need to get this idea out of their head "i will just be really good to make up for being antisocial"
no you wont. they would rather hire a guy half as good who is tolerable than someone with social problems. not only that, but there's a guy who is normal who can do the job even better than you. its an employer's market.

AI is actively sabotaging the product I'm working on and making it take at least 10x as long as it should to ship. My team's tech lead just sits there all day having Claude generate these convoluted multi page over-engineered planning documents for every little feature, then the retarded zoomers on the team who have never written a single line of code in their lives just tell Claude to implement the doc and commit the output as their own code. Then a month later when the product team asks why the nothing works properly, I have to go through and delete 10,000 lines of Claude generated spaghetti code and rewrite it from scratch. Oftentimes I'll ask the specific person on the git blame why something was implemented the way it was, and they respond as if it's the first time they've seen the code or tried using the feature. Meanwhile I'm on the verge of being let go because to these retards it seems like I'm contributing the least amount of work on the team.

I honestly think there's going to be a reckoning soon when the investors financing these software companies realize the massive amount of lost productivity and money AI has cost them and HOPEFULLY it will result in more money flowing into companies that don't rely on AI to get work done.

What's wrong with just being a junior and relax? In my team at amazon they'll give you a project's business requirements where the expected changes span some 40 something microservices and expect you to scope, design and implement it all without any senior supervision or help as SDE 1(L4).
Don't get me wrong I can do it now even though I struggled at first but I know for the fact through speaking with other teams that shit we do is not supposed to be within scope of a junior and everyone else just implements clear shit provided by their seniors

the worst part about a shit job market is that when you finally get a job, the job is shit too
>>
>>109501907
Dunno what your circumstances are, but when I came back to Amazon they brought me back as an SDE II and immediately handed me a project that was VERY clearly suited for a principal engineer (a cross several organizations project) and told me they couldn't hire anybody else for it, not even a product manager or someone to help me scope it out or organize requests from people all over the entire company. It wasn't like that during my first stint, but their retarded obsession with frugality has clearly taken over and from what I've heard from old coworkers they're basically just laying off people nonstop nowadays to make the numbers look better and crossing their fingers that whoever's left (at whatever level) can fill the void. And then when they don't fill the void, they get fired too. Shit's fucked over there and I'm so glad I'm gone.
>>
>>109502079
Yup. It's pretty funny also because there's an official role guidelines that show what scope is expected from each level but its thrown into trash in reality.
>SDE1: Owning a single well defined and scoped component of a feature
>SDE2: Owning a well defined and scoped feature
>SDE3: Designing and scoping a project spanning multiple features in one stream
>Principle SDE: Designing projects spanning multiple streams/orgs

Not exact wording but it's something like that. Meanwhile in reality you usually have the SDE2 doing the PSDE work, and if you get experienced in some domain or become a subject matter expert you'll suddenly be expected to do SDE3+ shit even if you are SDE1. Meanwhile the SDE3 and PSDE will be busy doing AI initiatives and rarely do any coding or design (at best you'll get SDE2s designing a service with SDE3 review).
It gets even shitter if you work across orgs because when you say something as an SDE1 everyone for some reason will not take you seriously. I had so many times where I get ignored for saying something so I just bring in an SDE2 or SDE3 to say the EXACT same shit and the other team will suddenly agree to it lmao
>>
>>109502079
>>109502188
To add it one of my teammates said we do this because we are assuming you are getting promoted (as in you are given the next role's scope from now) but
1. We fucking get 2 levels ahead not one
2. Other teams may not think that way and they'll just see an intern+ larping as SDE3 and roast them at every chance. Even if you are right and answer all their questions they'll still sound condescending
>>

lmao it's funny how many millennial / gen x losers are dropping out of the tech market after experiencing difficulty in their lives for the first time. You have no idea just how good you actually have it making $200k a year sitting in meetings. 30-50 interviews is nothing. This job market is terrible, and even yet its still 100x better than other countries.

In theory i could go back to my moms house and do nothing all day, just leetcode and interviews. She wouldnt complain at all but i dont want to live like this. Besides the money, i dont the whole idea of wasting my time in pointless hr interviews for ghost jobs. Wasting my time with pointless brain teases (leetcode). The money for work in IT is excellent but other than that, i wasnt enjoying. I do like the technical aspect but the application is bad.
In my case i always worked for banks and large finance companies. I do not like them and their activities. Suppose i could work 10x harder, it would just help the bank rape people even harder.
So i always got this disconnection bewteen wanting to improve, do more, go harder but finding a path for that. I even tried to volunteer as a dev in a site called catch a fire but tehy never replied. I tried for couple times to become a volunteer in some important open source proj like software used for banking in africa and poor countries. But these open source that are actually used by ngos and govts they have dev from govt and doing contributions via github isnt that simple.

I never went to college simply to make lots of money or have a comfy job. I always wanted to be good in something. But applying that isnt always possible. You can be an excellent thief, doenst mean you should use your skills. Also i never had some saas or software idea so i could use my skills and work by myself. All soft that i think is useful is alredy written. I dont see the point in doing AI bullshit, spyware or soft that serves to sell more trash to people.

So you see, i may get worse working conditions, way less money but at least i can work by myself at some point and deal directly with people to fix things, do home improvements and so.
I dont have children, i dont need to accumulate money, not using that after i die. Im infertile and dont plan to ever have some step children.

I do have a degree, did a lot of side projects during college, i have 7yoe in the same industry. I get so many interviews but they go nowhere.

Once you have experience they want to know what projects you've worked on and the technical problems you had to work through

so xillennial, got it.
see here's the thing, projects and experience is easy to bullshit and it's difficult to compare candidates based on the bullshit stories they tell, so for positions 2-7 yoe all these major companies have standardized leetcode interviews because you can't bullshit your way through that (unless you're cheating, which is really obvious).
nobody gives a shit about the projects you've worked on, they just want to sift through the applicant pool and find someone that's smart and competent and familiar with their stack, which leetcode effectively filters for. If you can solve this question and explain your solution in 30 minutes

Being good at math puzzles has zero relevance to frontend development and even most backend development. But that's not any company's goal because that would be fucking retarded.
>>
>>109512977
leetcode is logic, not math, and frontend development is a joke for braindead retards. Leetcode is much harder than frontend development. You can teach an codeforces grandmaster how to make some shitty UI for your wordpress website in javascript, you cannot teach some 90iq reactjeet how to build a calculator that can evaluate variable expressions.
>>
how are you holding up on this sunday evening
>>
>>109512913
You can do it recursively.

Assume you have solved the puzzle for n<k (you can build up an array). You're already given the solutions for n=1 and n=2. You can store the previous results in an array outcomes[N];

Set
outcomes[0]=1; //handles subtraction for n a complete square
outcomes[1]=1;
outcomes[2]=0;

For n=k, Alice has only a finite number of possible moves, each of the squares s<=k.
Subtracting a square leaves Bob with k-s, so he is now in Alices position, with the already computed
outcomes[k-s].
If outcomes[k-s]==0, then Alice has put Bob in here previously losing position, and we can set outcomes[k]=1, a win for her.
If all outcomes[k-s] ==1, then we set outcomes[k]=0;

Repeat by induction up to the required n.
