>>109529812This is a *Friendly* Gnome/Linux Thread, anon.
>>109529897Oh right, my bad. I was feeling passionate. Ignore that post.
>>109529902Ignore that guy, shitting on Gnome is a perfectly friendly thing to do.
I was just realizing something today, as someone who's been daily driving linux since windows XP EOL, but required to use windows occasionally some software. For a good few years, it was always a relief to use windows because i knew it would just werk. Don't get me wrong - I love tinkering and all, but the day to day experience on desktop just felt more convenient on windows. In recent years, I no longer feel that at all - I dread any time i have to use windows for anything and my day to day desktop experience is miles better on linux. All that to say I'm so happy with the forward progress that linux has made as an end user experience - to a point where my normie gamer friends and my mom whose laptop probably came preloaded with winxp from the factory can actually use and enjoy it as much as I do.
I like checking out what freeware games are in the repos from time to time, but as a newfag to Arch-based distros they don't have their software sorted into categories like that. Searching 'game' pulled up a large selection but still leaves quite a few out (like Xonotic, for instance). Any way to work around that? I like Arch better than 'buntu based distros that I used before but not being able to browse software by categories is kind of a pain.>>109529812As a gnome user, same.

>>109530348Oh, nice. Thanks.
>>109529010anons....i finally decided to use tmux and start learning it properly for good.....WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME IT WAS THIS GOOD???!!
>>109531476It kind of sucks when you start noticing latency. Good for remote sessions though.
>install immutable OS>download libreoffice through flatpak>it's using that horrid, borderline unusable gtk UI engine>turns out it's the only one available in the flatpak version because all that is included in the runtime is gtk garbagewew lad
>>109531688LibreOffice always looked ugly. Just use OnlyOffice.
Are the warnings against Ventoy legitimate or overblown? Better to use Rufus? Etcher? I currently only have one working laptop to work from so if Ventoy fucks up I'm in a shit spot. On the other hand having multiple images set to go off my usb drive would be useful for the time being. For context I'm working on a family members (can operate tech but isn't that savvy) newish budget laptop running the OEM W11 Home install. I'm going to get them to try a couple different flavors of Linux but worst case I'll be falling back on a fresh W11 install with some debloating tweaks and such.
Pop!_OS >All white development team>Only company to publicly stand up against Age Verification and actually tried to do something. >Solid distro with dedicated team keeping up and running smoothly.>Publicly admits when they fuck up and works to correct mistakes (early release of COSMIC)>Makes based laptops and PCs>No trannies>No politics at allTruly the only distro for the straight white man.

I am glad we can all finally agree that Pop IS the best distro out there and should be the standard all the other Shitros should try to measure up to.

Is it normal for a SSD to have a lot of read when seeding torrents? Apparently it has read a total of 280GB (I've only uploaded 20GB) after 2 days of uptime, I'm guessing it's because it's doing a lot of random reads? The last 2 hours it added another 20gb to the read, even though I've only seeded 100mb.
>>109532921Probably. Who gives a shit? That much in read traffic is equivalent to like 300KB of writes. A whole two minutes of IO time on the device in 2 days. At this rate you'll wear out the drive in 500 years.
>>109532921What is the ratio? My ratio is always 0.05 max.
