My company gave me an app called Kiro and I'm kind of feeling like a fraud everyday. Except for minor bug fixes that only need editing 4 or 5 lines, I can't remember the last time I coded an entire file. Other day, one of my teammate even said I used AI the most in my team and it worried me because I used to pride myself for being one of the few in my company who didn't brought in to the AI hype.
>>
I'm a half-assed sysadmin and management started paying for enterprise GPT + Claude and I think it's genuinely making me retarded. I can just turn my brain off and prompt whatever project I'm trying to work through and as long as I pay enough attention to catch the hallucinations it mostly just werks.
Strangely enough my boss and some coworkers have shitty results with it and I don't know why. As soon as I get in a call with them and start prompting it usually spits out the right thing right away.

This is me too anon, it used to feel good when I used to debug some shit and figure it out, I've written Claude skills and now I teach it things occasionally. I feel like I'm half obsolete. I'm still better with it than the rest of team, same as before which is weird. My boss might be better though, but he is on multiple things at the same time.

that's not true.
You do get constant observation on your phone, on your computer, on your laptop and woman who will get mad at you if you do something they don't agree with
You actually get less energy that you can spend productively by being a NEET which receives mental disability checks.
A lot more of your energy gets completely wasted towards finding out why some man hate woman and slowly getting to the conclussion that woman are super annoying the very moment they hate you or want to manipulate you or just simply want to wake you up until 4am when it's 2am.
Basically both sides where the Woman hates all Man and Man who hates all Woman are equally valid positions to find yourself in.

Same, one of the last people too start using AI, now I have the second highest token usage in the company and have just finished doing a major refactor where claude wrote 99% of the code, using aikido and rovo for code reviews.
Looking back I could have done all the code myself, but between hunting obscure documentation or being forced to deal with plugins with no documentation at all, it would have taken at least twice the time to do it. Company pays for the AI slop and expects stuff to be done faster now.
>>
>>109552993
I'm slightly overpaid at my current job desu and I expect to lose 10-20% net salary in my next one unless I can do the correct salary optimisations. But I'm thinking its worth it to work in a good environment again cuz I hate my current job and the entire company is spiraling the drain.
>>
>>109551807
>>109554765
It is insanely easy to burn though tokens. I burned my monthly budget in two days writing tests and refactoring a complex feature. But I don‘t trust AI to refactor an entire codebase that isn‘t yet fully covered by a billion tests without screwing up in a way a reviewer couldn‘t detect.

I am slowly being driven mad by all of these self-diagnosed autism cases that email in. I'm an old-school train loving autist (with an attic dedicated to my hobby), and we're under attack from almost exclusively young women asking for special treatment due to autism. Our automatic responses and procedures work for 10s of thousands of other students, of which I am assuming there are some with autism in this number with no issues. They are asking for MFA to be disabled as it's too hard and they don't understand, autism and ADHD means they can't remember to authenticate a login or keep track of a new app. The SSPR process is too confusing despite us having video, image and text guides, along with a bot that can guide you step by step. They are too riddled with autism and adhd to reply to emails within a reasonable time and the SECOND an automated reminder goes out, or the ticket closes due to our SLA's we receive essays from ChatGPT with bold and caps everytime the word autism comes up, accusing the school and IT of being and I quote from 1 student "enemies of the disabled".
>>
>>109557656
getting diagnosed with fake and completely unmeasurable disabilities is a cheat code to living in the first world. nobody wants any potential legal issues from denying someone a "reasonable accommodation" so they often cave. people have demanded their job be full remote as a reasonable accommodation. the small town im from had a case in the paper because a fat bitch had her "reasonable accommodation" denied and she got fired for doing no work, and sued for discrimination.

about a quarter of all americans have been diagnosed with a mental health condition. around 16% of americans receive some form of disability payment. we need to start producing more wealth and working extra hard so we can keep these fraudchads cozy. we wouldnt want to infringe on anyone's rights.

im autist that cured my own autism and I will tell you my theory on what it is
autism is nothing more and nothing less than chronic inflammation of brain
same thing with adhd, they're just different flavors of the same shit
you either can't focus on anything or you have hyperfocus on one thing
it's just a brain trying to distract itself from inflammation

that is why vagus nerve stimulation helps, that is why neurodivergent people have higher levels of toxic metals in their bodies

take daily nac pills, take quercetin, take high doses vitamin C and boron
and go to sauna 3 times a week
within a year you will be cured

you should look at aluminum concentrations in sweat after sauna in neurodivergents
>>
>>109558111
>daddy liked speed/coke and amphetamines destroyed the spermogenesis process (which takes 3 months btw)
You must still have autism if you don't understand that sometimes things are either broken from the beginning or break over time naturally. We did not use to be perfect creatures before the invention of farming or seed oils or whatever you believe caused "imperfectness".
>you should look at aluminum concentrations in sweat after sauna in neurodivergents

I've been watching a lot of interviews with execs and stuff and holy fucking shit, these people are all fucking psychopaths. How the hell do these people even live with themselves? They'll be insanely unlikable and narcissistic in the interviews and will constantly be "well this is a problem for me if you inconvenience me" and rather than want to fix things for the company it sounds more like they just want to be not bothered so they can keep stroking their dicks. How in the fuck has nobody brought out the pitchforks? We're spending all our time and money for THESE assholes?

My job is going great and I'm fine. But it's really annoying that everything breaks all the time. Surely a gaggle of competent engineers would have designed the system better.

They pay me and my peers to keep it on life support. It's annoying that my job exists.

I've been made at my other job for not going, and my bluff about not having enough time has been called. I am very tempted to simply invite my boss at one place to visit me at another. Doing so both ways would be a lot of fun, and honestly, probably profitable to both. Taking reservists to the base to see how things happen for the other elements? Taking ex-infantry defence contractors to modern units? I know it'd never happen, and if it did, it'd be useless. It does sound fun though.

that kind of thing where i would be angry at myself for not being good enough at let alone truly allowed to do invasive surgery on stuff. I don't think it's a result of the new job; it was already going away then. some sense that assaults are possible but even if any assault is done to cover a retreat, it's still an assault. I actually worry about the state of the unit, in terms of IT and radio shit. My old oldhead fun boss is probbaly gone by now, and I have a laptop from them that wasn't included in the scary "You owe us a lot of money for your gear." letter. My section seemed to always be a lynchpin despite our do-nothing position. I'm tempted to simply ask the second-biggest boss how things are going and how my presence could possibly help. It's not like my own experience means anything anymore; it's all from now dead classes of ship and my trade's responsibilities have been parted out.

I've gotten a real job since all that. Lords of the round tables, I pray for your success. No part of this is my problem anymore. If it were, I have nothing but obsolete nonsense to offer. If I am to be trained up to deal with the new ships, that's trivial.

I'm also a little salty that occasionaly I get made fun of for riding a shitty e-bike into work, and charging it when I get there. We're techs, we're in the defence industry, we should all be on the cutting edge; I have a hard time reconciling my vehicle with my job. It's a vehicle unbefitting of at tech, because it's badly maintained and clings to life one month's service at a time. But at the same time, people complain that they can't even get their own tires changed. I'm out here on "Yeah this weekend I might get around to taking apart my 2smoke to figure out why the clutch isn't working" and some engineer can't even be bothered to answer basic questions about the network as implemented

First off, our shop uses ladder logic, which is a visual symbolic language designed to be read and written by 80 IQ meth smoking industrial operators who dropped out of high school. Everything I do is so simple it's mind numbing. The processes I control are very basic, there's no cool problem solving or autistic optimization like there is in traditional programming, there's essentially one solution to every problem and it's always super simple
Also, I just don't like troubleshooting hardware as much as I thought I would. Idk why it's just not that interesting
>>
>>109560265
None, I literally just applied. I had a background in industrial automation but on the software side (C#/SQL).
It should be noted that my company works in the water/wastewater treatment industry, so I'm not really controlling anything that requires deep mechanical/electrical knowledge (our industrial engineers handle that for me and just give me the hardware to program)

https://ribbonfarm.com/2009/10/07/the-gervais-principle-or-the-office-according-to-the-office/

Basically midwits without any depth are expendable proxies the sociopathic c suite can use for all sorts of stuff. They use them as shields from risk. They also act as a buffer between individual comtributors to maintain the illusion of a large power level / company ladder

Midwits will enforce and back up c suite, even for illegal things because they're nigger cattle

>>109568781
I never been to 99. I got moved near the Commons at one point and hated it. The only restaurant I liked there was the asian place. The fried rice was really good, and the sushi stand too. There's a sandwich place there (I forget the name) that was basically a ripoff. There were other stalls that hadn't reopened last I was there, so I don't the current state. I never tried the rice bowl place, not really a fan of those. There was a mexican place in submixer I wanted to try but never did. My favorite cafes were the new campus: 4, 6, and 9. The burgers at the diners in 6 and 9 were good, and the "seattle themed" place at 9 was good. The mexican place at 4 was good too, a knockoff Chipotle. Sometimes they did prime rib plates that were half decent. There were also the rotating places of local restaurants. pasta ya gotcha was one of my favorites, I'd always go to them. The teriyaki place was good, and the panda express knockoff too. Some of the cafes have the "chef's table" stalls, and those can be good too, but the portions aren't great.

For big companies they issue RSUs, not options. You also can't sell them before they vest, obviously. So those points show you don't know shit already. How can m$ or scroogle explode overnight? PLCs don't involve low level embedded code, you write strictly gatekept application code using a limited and curated toolset in a babby language for retards. every hardware aspect is hidden from you and abstracted.

if you want to fuck around with setting up hardware USARTs by writing to raw registers and reading data with interrupt handlers go do embedded. if you want to actually implement a hardware U(S)ART go do FPGAs
>>
>>109569746
I haven't used PLCs, I thought you still wrote verilog or vhdl, is that not the case?
>>
>>109569843
those are fpgas retard

plcs are 8 bit microcontrollers in a fancy plastic box that sit inside the electrical cabinet of your local poop filtering plant. you program them using a 50gb proprietary software suite that infects your computer like aids and installs 20 telemetry and DRM malware programs to make sure you have the exact right license to work with specifically the 2014 q1 revision of the plc not the 2013 q3 one

you program plcs in one of 5 standard languages for kindergarteners, though in america they only use ladder logic (the one that looks like electrical schematics). in Europe you might luck out and find a company that uses pascal... I mean, "structured text".

Nobody's disputing that. It's just ridiculous that you assumed they are programmed using verilog/vhdl when the devices are from a completely unrelated world

when im in the rhythm its easy to be there 3x a week. deadlifting hard on sunday would be a rough way to start the work week imo. it makes you so tired. ive only just started deadlifting regularly though, maybe it gets better.

the trick ive used to get myself in the gym consistently is just setting the bar extremely low for what i expect of myself that day. if im feeling like shit (every day of my life now) i will commit mentally to just showing up and doing 1 exercise that i like and leaving. taking off the pressure to perform tricks me into showing up and then i pretty much always go hard. ive almost never actually done the 1 exercise and leave thing, but its been a very useful mental trick for me.

its hard because once you allow yourself to start skipping days, its pretty much over. what i do is take 1 to 3 weeks off every 4 months or so.
i work out early morning before work. it sucks but you get used to it.
any time i start allowing exceptions in my routine it becomes the standard. i skipped training squat and deadlift for so long because of that.

ymmv and im not even remotely strong enough to be taking advice from anyway.

you say that but here in Europe I recently got offered 85k for 5yoe most of which was full time work at a research institute during my phd. the job was in munich where half of that will disappear in taxes and half again of that will go to rent. that was the best place. ended up deciding to just stay at my current place because it's simply not worth giving up the absolute autonomy and ability to control my own budget and timeline several years into the future for a slight pay bump.

It took me an embarassingly long time to figure this out but: inefficient work processes that waste dev time and engineering time create the execuse used by non-technical freeloaders for why company needs so many non-devs, non-engineers, and non-technical freeloaders. If the inefficient work processes were eliminated then the non-technical managerial employees would have no reason to be employed. In other words: non-technical freeloaders intentionally create inefficiences to hire more non-technical freeloaders and keep their own jobs secure. For example: every notice how "business analysts" don't seem to know anything about the business and always have to go ask someone else?

that's true for some of the processes for some of the time but I suspect you've always been an individual contributor. usually processes exist to mitigate downside risk of various types. prevent catastrophic errors, ensure traceability of decisions and funds, ensure hand-off between individuals and teams is possible, ensure no individual or team is grossly underutilized etc

No they aren't. They're paying me to be an efficient and also very good engineer to increase their productivity and the quality of their product. When you do shit like those processes, it decreases my value, and suddenly I cant actually get work done because I have to jump through so many hoops.

For instance at my current place, they want us to move fast to finish all these new works, but they also got these slow ass processes around each task that involves documentation and testing and then lots of meetings. To them, this is suppose to make the task come out with less bugs and better quality, but isn't that the reason they hired me to begin with? I continue to put out good work but it feels like this process is meant to punish people like myself unintentionally.

It's all overpriced soggy slop that I have to drive somewhere for. If I don't feel like cooking lunch for the week I just throw some hotdogs and tortillas in the break room fridge (this costs half what the cheapest thing at taco bell does and tastes pretty much the same.) If I feel like another hotdog I can just lock my computer, microwave for 30 seconds, and have another hotdog. It's way more convenient than eating out.

Seem thing at home: nothing is more convenient than walking to the kitchen and just pulling things out of the fridge. I don't get how people still eat out.
>>
>>109574679
When I lived in cucknada it was prohibitively expensive. Even 100% home-cooked, I ate virtually only rice and beans (or spiced it up with like couscous and chickpeas and similar equal options).
