>>
>>109614681
I have an omnibook 2000ct, and I want to warn you: all models have weak plastic due to age, and all have broken hinges because the metal gets stuck.
If you want the same one, be prepared to work with epoxy resin, cut out the plastic lid tabs, and use a grinder.
>>
>>109614758
That sounds about right for old laptops, unfortunately. How were ThinkPads like the only major laptop line around that time to basically dodge these issues?

Nah, especially not for the prices Unicomp charge now. The Model M mechanism is just inherently flawed, and M boards are horrible to repair if something goes wrong with them.

Unicomps were fine 10 years ago when they were half price.
IDK how you would describe buying one now because it isn't for the performance.
You'd really, really have to like a model M mech
OR you like American made things and a Unicomp is possibly the most American made keyboard. It's one of the few things you can put on a computer desk and drive to where it's made.

There is also a funny thing to how Unicomp operates which is supporting legacy business cases because some companies are still using IBM systems but emulated ones and they need a keyboard that matches. It's stereotypical American B2B nonsense that I personally think is neat in it's own way.

I have two PC122s. One from 10 years ago and a just recently purchased one. I can't consider it a rational purchase in any sense.

Not much you can do beyond bolt modding it.
Kinda the Achilles heel of any model M, when something goes wrong there is very little you can do that doesn't require major surgery.

Granted there is only a few things that can really be wrong. That's either some of the plastic heat stakes that sandwich the back plate and the membrane has broken or the membrane has gone bad. Crud could get under the hammer but IDK how common that is.

The fix for either is cheap but it's labor intensive but requires a reasonably steady hand. M2 bolts, nuts and washers are cheap anywhere and Unicomp will sell you a membrane for like $20

You don't have to bolt mod every stake if it's just a few are broken but if no stakes are broken near the bum key you might be SoL on not having to mod it because it's a membrane. I had a few bad keys and the membrane was corroded.

The thing people don't realize is that, underneath the clicky buckling springs, the Model M is a membrane keyboard at its core; this is also why they're stuck with 2-key rollover. I actually do prefer the chunkier FEEL of the M's buckling springs over the F's lighter feel in a vacuum, but the advantages the F mechanism have over the M are too good to pass up for that slight preference in feel.

>make 16 PLC tags for a thing for the lab to know what silos are being drawn from
>make them as basic bitch bools
>they need to be the special user defined data type of HMI_INDICATION alias tags so the HMI can actually see them
>redo them all
>ok now I need to make 16 HMI tags and map them to these PLC tags
>make them in the wrong HMI system/server

It works

Nice specs
I actually have a core 2 quad but i have actually opted for a i7 3930k for dirt cheap, although i am putting the p3 1.4ghz on this case
Is there actually any problems you encountered using x64 windows?
I got a i7 3930k PC i plan for a dual boot of XP/10 and will slap x fi titanium sound card in it
while the P3 build will be a 98/XP machine
How's the CRT btw? how long you had it and how's the picture

>Is there actually any problems you encountered using x64 windows?
Nope, as long as the hardware is right and drivers exist, it's solid.

>I got a i7 3930k PC i plan for a dual boot of XP/10 and will slap x fi titanium sound card in it
>while the P3 build will be a 98/XP machine
Sounds good.

>How's the CRT btw? how long you had it and how's the picture
Great, it's only a CPD-E530 though, so 117kHz with 0.24mm pitch.
It's in storage right now, was in use like for a year, got it free from a boomer that worked with photography.
Got a bunch of better monitors too, like LaCie electron19Blue IV, Dell P1110, Sun branded Sony GDM-5510.

>oo i like that cooler, what specs of that pc?
First one is:

>Intel Pentium III 1GHz
>384MB RAM (3x128MB, PC133, Samsung)
>Gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ (VIA Apollo Pro133)
>Nvidia GeForce2 GTS Pro 64MB AGP
>3DFX Voodoo 2 12MB PCI
>Creative SoundBlaster Live! PCI
>Creative SoundBlaster AWE32 2MB ISA
>ALi USB 2.0 PCI Controller
>3Com EtherLink PCI 100Mbps
>Adaptec 29160N PCI Ultra160 SCSI Controller
>18GB 10000 U/min Ultra160 SCSI HDD
>73GB 10000 U/min Ultra320 SCSI HDD
>Hitachi PATA 8x/40x DVD-ROM
>Seagate PATA 100GB HDD
>NEC 1.44MB floppy drive

Second one doesn't exist anymore, but similar spec but with GeForce 7800GS and two Voodoo 2s in SLI.

So no point in using 32 bit then,
and Ooo damn
That's a lot of machines i like the sun ones a lot and the laptops, are those all yours?, that's a lot of monitors
Damn those are pretty good CRTs did you get them for cheap, locally?
Where do you even live to get all these because where i live i checked everything locally and NOTHING there was simply nothing for high end ones so i bit the bullet and bought a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 510 from Slovakia.
I thought yours was the sony g520
Do you use both cards video cards and both sound cards at the same time? how does that work?
also is it worth it getting a SCSI HDD? i kinda wanted one
those specs look really good.
What do you use the PC for, I kinda planned my P3 to be a bridge of the millennium build so 1990 to 2004, i heard that tualatin motherboards with ISA slots are rare but mine has one, and i was gonna slap a AWE64 in it

As for the i7 3930k i got, i thought my i5 4460 died so i bought it for a mix of late XP and win10 usage for when games don't support XP but you want online play (counter strike:source lmfao) It was a GTX 960 4GB and 64GB of DDR3 (got it for dirt cheap as a bundle with the mobo+cpu) intel dx79to

Oh yeah i'm going to slap lots of cold cathode lighting on p3 rig!

My current setup looks like this the cables are messy but i didn't bother patching them up because I am going to tear down everything eventually when i'll build my next main rig while my two retro rigs will be on the side table.

I'd say so too.

>That's a lot of machines i like the sun ones a lot and the laptops, are those all yours?
Yeah. The pic is quite old, bought some new ones, sold some pictured, some are in storage.

>Damn those are pretty good CRTs did you get them for cheap, locally?
Yeah, locally mostly, like 150km radius.

>Where do you even live to get all these because where i live i checked everything locally and NOTHING there was simply nothing for high end ones so i bit the bullet and bought a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 510 from Slovakia.
Estonia. Also lived in Germany for several years, some stuff is from there.
Also some of the hardware I've gotten years ago already, it's definitely harder finding things for cheap or free these days.

>Do you use both cards video cards and both sound cards at the same time? how does that work?
Which ones you mean? In the P3? GeForce is the main card for OpenGL and D3D, Voodoo 2 only jumps in for Glide.
Active sound card can be picked in Windows, the ISA one is mostly for DOS.

>also is it worth it getting a SCSI HDD? i kinda wanted one
Just for fun, I like high RPM SCSI drives even when I sometimes use modern SSDs of CF cards with adapters too.

>What do you use the PC for, I kinda planned my P3 to be a bridge of the millennium build so 1990 to 2004, i heard that tualatin motherboards with ISA slots are rare but mine has one, and i was gonna slap a AWE64 in it
Actually play older stuff mostly on the Core2Duo these days, even DOS games, with the MIDI Sound Canvas in DOSBox-X or just on my main PC (pictured here >>109614427).

>Oh yeah i'm going to slap lots of cold cathode lighting on p3 rig!
Very nice, the Core2Duo has some too. Pic related.

Damn that looks really good
So what made you collect all of these?
It looks really cool also your place looks super cozy
150km? damn Estonia,Germany no wonder you got CRTs and older stuff easily
and for real it is super hard to find cheap stuff now you gotta pay a kidney if you really want something which is a shame.
Ah okay so you use both like that, a friend of mine is giving matrox g400 + sister card for free while i got the 9800 pro for 98/xp I just kinda wanted something in one unit, is it really worth it scouring for a voodoo?
Yeah i was planning to do similar stuff like that for DOS mode
Do you actively spend a lot of time on your Duo PC?
I don't really even play that much on my main, i do whatever on it like make mods or whatever I'd gladly use 86box but my i9 9900k's IPC is garbage and can't do anything more than a Pentium 166Mhz 200 is pushing it

I really like how yours look that purple lighting looks sick, how does your place look like? is it a big place because you got a lot of space for all that shit, impressive

and yeah i'd show off more but i kinda want it to be perfect
The X-FI card will be soon here so at least one rig will be complete, wanted to get a griffith nendoroid there, also on your main setup is that a scarlett audio interface?

My room is basically all philips hue lighting

>Damn that looks really good
Thanks, like your setup/room too.

>So what made you collect all of these?
Just for fun, I'm not that old but tech lagged behind here in the 90's after the iron curtain fell, so I actually used a lot of older machines actively when younger.

>and for real it is super hard to find cheap stuff now you gotta pay a kidney if you really want something which is a shame.
Yep, gone are the days you could find high end CRTs for free and things like Amiga 1200s for 20 eur.

>Ah okay so you use both like that, a friend of mine is giving matrox g400 + sister card for free while i got the 9800 pro for 98/xp I just kinda wanted something in one unit, is it really worth it scouring for a voodoo?
Not really, Glide wrappers will do a good job even on older hardware. More if you just want to be autistic with real hardware.

>Do you actively spend a lot of time on your Duo PC?
I bought most parts over time, knowing roughly what build I wanted to do and then put it all together over a few days.

>I don't really even play that much on my main, i do whatever on it like make mods or whatever I'd gladly use 86box but my i9 9900k's IPC is garbage and can't do anything more than a Pentium 166Mhz 200 is pushing it

Relatable. My room is still work in progress to, even though the setup itself is basically complete. Just a huge room I renovated in the basement dedicated to tech stuff.
Have to get my Philips CM8833-II out of storage, going to integrate that into the setup as a console emulation machine instead of the bigger consumer Trinitron TV.

>The X-FI card will be soon here so at least one rig will be complete, wanted to get a griffith nendoroid there, also on your main setup is that a scarlett audio interface?
Yeah, Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, not the best but got it for a good price and have used Focusrite interfaces before without problems, so I just went for that.

>My room is basically all philips hue lighting
Wanted to get Philips Hue too, specially behind the monitor but their PC client for ambient color is a resource hog.

It looks good i like it, it's adorable for it's size
Honestly it's such a neat unit, it's a shame there's no market for hardware but for media there's too much old 1990s and 2000s physical media on the market
You only use speakers now at home, i have a soundbar that i use when i dry my hair

>Yeah, it can sync the lights to what's on your screen. Cool if you get the strips and put them around the back edge of your monitor.
OH for that software i assume it syncs with the newer strips everything i have is from 2021, back then you didn't have much support except for the TV one, i wanted to simply control the lighting i my room and turn it off or on and at the time it didn't have that feature, not sure if they added
I thought about getting the FiiO E10K but i got my broken fulla schiit 2 that has a broken volume knob (i have to mash it back in place then it works) and the 6.35m adapter i have is ACTUALLY STUCK I CANNOT PULL IT OFF anymore without destroying it
